The History of Darlington South Park
Darlington South Park has a long and rich history. The land itself is recorded as being gifted to the town in the will of Sir James Belasses in 1636, for charitable purposes.
In 1850 the trustees of the charity decided it should be leased to the Board of Health for 21 years for use as a park. The park is open 24 hours a day all year round. Staff are based in the clock tower lodge from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
Parkrun is a free, weekly, 5k and 2k community event in open spaces around the world.

Sound is MUCH better in this vid Andy, thanks for that. (I really struggled to hear anything in the Dnorwic vid recently, and the sanatarium ones, so I jumped out of those early). Great to see the track piece from the S & D railway. I recall reading that many railways and tramways used stone block sleepers in the early days, one reason being that horses can walk between the blocks but don't like walking on full width wood ties / sleepers. Some of the early railways started out as horse hauled tramways for moving coal, and were still walking the track for some years until steam locomotives became practical. Great job on the run. Cheers!
