We Finally Understand The Entire James Bond Timeline

Ойын-сауық

If you've seen only one or two James Bond movies over the years, you may not realize that there's an overarching plot that extends across the sprawling series. That's right; James Bond might be something of a gadget-reliant super hero, but he's still very much a man, one who reaps consequences for every action he sows. This is especially true in the later films, which are very conscious of everything that has come before. And while every film in the Bond canon is standalone, fans who understand the larger plot point will definitely get more out of these experiences. We finally understand the entire James Bond timeline.

    These videos are so funny. It’s always “here’s how it works” “we get it” but in the end you just show that you completely missed the point. The franchise does not work on a linear timeline, it never will. The first 5 play the same guy, Craig is his own thing, that’s it.😭

    The whole Bond character was best portrayed by Dalton and Craig, but when you come up to me, and say JAMES BOND, I think of Connery.

  • @lynnpoint6395
    @lynnpoint63952 жыл бұрын

    In my own head canon, the theatrical James Bond exists (so far) in three separate cinematic universes. The First James Bond Universe runs from 1962 to1985 during which James Bond is portrayed by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Connery again, and then Roger Moore. The technology and background world politics progress accordingly, as does the age of the actors. in "Dr. No" Sean Connery initially portrays James Bond as a 30something agent when Connery himself is 32. 23 years later Roger Moore concludes the run of this Bond in "A View to a Kill" as someone in his mid-50s when Moore himself is 58. I think there is just enough continuity in Bond's history across this era to support the idea that all three actors are playing the "same" character. The 1983 non-Eon film "Never Say Never Again" can be watched as (sort of) an epilogue to this particular Bond Universe, and with some additional eye-squinting, "The Rock" from 1996 can be viewed as an epilogue to this epilogue. Although there is some overlap in secondary characters and history, it is difficult to suddenly switch Bond gears to a much younger Timothy Dalton in 1987's "The Living Daylights" and accept him as being the same character from the 1960s and 1970s. I prefer to think of Dalton and Pierce Brosnan's James Bond as making up the Second James Bond Universe. And then Daniel Craig's James Bond is clearly a complete reboot, again in spite of some secondary character overlap, and his performance is contained start-to-finish in the Third James Bond Universe. Will there be a Fourth? The idea of separate "James Bond Universes" will become more official if that is the case, because the previous James Bond has died. This means the producers are now free to yield to certain contemporary pressures and make James Bond black. Or gay. Or trans-gender. Or female. Probably all four, need to check all those boxes...

    i can break it down for you: the franchise is a series of anthology stories (stories from the same franchise that do not share continuity) where the lead actor is the main source of continuity. ie, each new version of James Bond takes place in a different timeline than the other, iow Daniel Craig's Bond won't know who Ulrich Goldfinger is.

  • @ShaneYeBoy

    @ShaneYeBoy

    Жыл бұрын

    Nah. In George Lazenby's 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', it shows a clear connection to Sean Connery's timeline. Then later on going into Roger Moore's Bond there are other connections that tie into the events that took place in OHMSS. A great example is when in 'For Your Eyes Only', Roger's Bond visits Teresa Bond's grave after she died in OHMSS. Then later on in 'License to Kill" with Timothy Dalton, Felix refers to Bond's marriage from OHMSS. Della: "Did I say something wrong?" Felix: "He was married once, but that was a long time ago." So I'd say for the most part the storyline sticks with continuity from 'Dr. No' up until at least 'License to Kill'.

    *THE REAL TIME LINE FROM A REAL BOND FAN* The films intwines you gotta do it by the books and films mixing them up Casino Royale (2006) -start of Bonds career Quantum of Solace (2008) continuation- Bond is still cocky and hot headed making rookie mistakes, Quantum is just a tiny fragment to a bigger picture which Bond Doesn't Know that being the organization Spectre. • Dr.No (1962) - Bond becomes more experience in the field plus introduces us to the finer experienced Bond we know and love, we see Bonds growth and maturity as an agent. *FOLLOWS THE ORDER OF THE BOOKS* Live and Let Die (1973) Moonraker (1979) From Russia With Love (1963) Goldfinger (1964) Thunderball (1965) The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) You Only Live Twice (1967) The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) *BOND CHARACTER DEVELOPES AS EVERY FILM ONWARDS REFERENCES BOND FIRST MARRIAGE* On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)- Bond comes face to face with his nemesis Blofeld and breaks his neck,James Bond finally settles down and gets married but gets gunned down by Spectre/Blofeld killing his first and only wife all films passed this mentions his dead wife. • For your eyes only (1981) - Bond visits his dead wifes graves, Tracey Bond, meaning takes some time after OHMSS. Bond gets revenge and kills Blofeld. •Daimonds are forever (1971)- Bond comes face to face with Blofeld again. Surprised by this because Bond swore he killed him in For your Eyes only. *THE COLD WAR WAS COMING TO AN END* •Octopussy (East and West Berlin heavily emphasized) • Living Daylights (right in the middle of the Soviet Afghan war mid 1980s) • Liscense to kill (late 80s starting to deal with modern world problems: drugs and cartels) • A view to a kill (Corrupted Corporation take over modern world problems) *THE COLD WAR IS ENDING AND HEADING TO A MODERN ERA.* • Goldeneye (fall of the soviet union + M's being a woman for the new age ontop of her comment to Bond of him being a 'Dinosaur' and 'RELIC OF THE COLD WAR') • Tomorrow Never Dies ( we are dealing with the Chinese who are both allie and foe ontop of modern world problems, controlled media, tensions high between Chinese and Americans as WW3 almost starts) The World is Not Enough- poor Q retires bringing the Cold War Era to a close, MI6 is targeted and blown up for the first time. Die Another Day - we are entering modern day problems, African daimonds crisis. ontop of tensions with North Korea. Bond goes into a retirement) Skyfall - Bond admidst his retirement comes out of hiding, we go back to Bonds origin story and M dies, MI6 gets destroyed permanently Spectre - MI6 is gone and set to be demolished, bringing an end to an era officially, as 00 agents are becoming "Obsolete" BIG REVEAL, Bond finally meets the orginzation and faces his "Final Boss fight" Spectre revealing who was responsible for all the first films, Bonds own family thus why and how they were always one step ahead of James Bond in each film, all the films connect to this as a big face reveal. No Time to die- Our hero's last heroic epic adventure 007 goes out in a bang.
