It was called " little England" mainly because during colonial times, it was a refuge for the ruling Brits from the heat of Colombo. Here they indulged in golf, horse racing & other recreational activities which reminded them of home. Otherwise when people mention the architecture, there is the famous post office & the Grand Hotel, which could be anywhere in England.

There are tons of hotels in nuwaraeliya with beautiful views. Try to find good one.. 👍highlight areas... lake , Hakgala Park, city park, Horton plains national Park, waterfalls

18:13 that is a type of fig tree, called "Bo" tree in Sinhala. It is under one of those trees that Prince Siddhartha became the Buddha (aka attained enlightenment) in India, so Bo trees are common in Sri Lankan Buddhist temples. There is a Bo tree in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka (called Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi), and that tree is the world's oldest living tree with a known planting date (288 BC). Also, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was planted using a branch from the actual tree that Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment in India!

Nice video as usual Harry. However I am hoping you did Littlemore exploring in Nuwara Eliya and we get to see more interesting side of Nuwara Eliya in your next video. In this video you only covered less than one km span in the center of the city which is not what this city is about at all. You have to explore more around the city outside the city center and the attractions to get more of idea to why locals call this place little England. It has become more touristy place recently and lost its British reminisce but you can still find some places shows what this place used to be like. Anyway nice video man. Keep up the good work!

Hi Harry, thanks for visiting our beautiful country... just wanted to give you some information regarding the English names, that's because Sri Lanka previously named Ceylon, was a British colony for over 100 years, thats the reason we have some names that originated from places in Britain. You may see the same thing in other British colonies as well. I currently live in New Zealand and most places have British names for places here as well. Go to Horton plains national park (there u can hike Thotupola mountain - 2hour hike , see many waterfalls , see world's end, breathtaking sceneries).... it is near Nuwara eliya, if u go there go early ,around 6am in the morning

Hi Harry, This City is called Nuwaraeliya. It has much cooler climate than any other part of Sri Lanka. Reason for you seeing English names in this part of Sri Lanka is that British ruled Sri Lanka well over 150years until Sri Lanka got independence in 1948. So there’s a lot of English influence especially in this part of Sri Lanka then known as Ceylon. Enjoy your travel. You’ll love it.
