We Caught Every Animal At Manila’s PetCon Expo
Now that we have a new home in BGC (Metro Manila) Philippines, Brooklyn and Colt would really love to get pets. Colt, of course, wants a lizard and Brooklyn is trying to decide between a bunny and a cat. So we headed to the Manila PetCon 2024 trade show to see a bunch of options all in one place. Will we leave with any critters?

We’re the Lockwoods. You’re right, having a pet is a very huge responsibility. For someone who travels a lot for long periods of time, I won’t suggest getting pets, esp. cats and dogs. They easily get anxious if left for a long period of time, even if left for just one day. I have cats and dogs myself.

The level of commitment to a pet can and will make an effect on your plans. It's not like what we have in the US where a local PetCo/PetSmart that can do boarding while you're away. On the flip side, stress management techniques have been matched with pet ownership from my doctor. When we travel, it's just domestic within the US. You'll have to deal with international travel. Different story there. Either way you handle this, I'm so looking forward which path you'll take with the kids. Their enthusiasm to pet ownership is absolutely heartwarming.

Cats' behavior depends on how you train them. I am a fur mom of 3 cats all male and they don't scratch my furniture (luckily hahaha) It's because I purchase a lot of scratch posts for them and they have toys. Cats actually don't need much of that attention compared to dogs. Cats will sleep 80% of the day and 20% of playtime. My cats love belly rub and they are so sweet. One of my cats is a rescue and is the sweetest of them all. I can go out for like 4-5 hours leaving them inside my house with just food and water and they're all good! Sometimes I ask my neighbor to check up on them ( just because my neighbor is a pet lover as well) but it rarely happens as I am a work-from-home mom ( Digital Marketing and Social Media Manager). I hope you guys will find the perfect pet!! Stay safe guys and welcome to the Philippines!!!

Colt amazes me how he calmly handles these reptiles that i am afraid of so it did make me calm and carry on watching. For the case of pets, its highly suggested not to have if u are frequent travellers plus it will add onto ur expenses as well. I suggest getting at least two kittens, so they have a playmate and companion all day. They will also be well behaved as they police and discipline each other, learn from one another. Solo cats, particularly those left alone during the day, that''s when they become problem pets... scratching furniture, biting, being aggressive or shy/fearful.

#5 No rabbits for the Condo. smell, cage, grass, bedding, they can't play with you like a cat or dog. Guinea pigs, live in a cage until they escape. You can watch them play but not with you. Our son had one about age 6 or 7. They don't live that l long. My cat, Ming Ming lived with us for 20 years and she was 2 or 3 years old when we found her wandering the yard. Cats seldom take to a leash and you would have an indoor animal for its life, not kind to the pet.
