I knew a guy that took old jeep cherokees and ge woukd offroad them aorund town and when rhey busted he turned it into a parts car and bought another running one cheap that was half busted and hed combine the two and go offroading again.

Glad to see the cheap jeep series back. Not everyone can drop $55-70k on a Rubicon and then another $20k modifying it. Sometimes you gotta buy what you can afford, which may be a $3300 Liberty. And any truck with 4lo with a good set of tires will take you further than you think.

They were sold in Australia as a Cherokee. "Liberty" could not be used by Jeep in Australia, as the name was already in use by Subaru. The car known as the "Legacy" in the rest of the world, was renamed "Liberty here, as "Legacy" is the name of a charitable organisation that takes car of KIA Soldiers families. If I recall, they objected to a Japanese car maker sharing the name.

I had a 2002 Jeep liberty that had the full AND part time transfer case. I loved that thing. Drove it 240k miles before a slipped timing chain took it out. I completely own up to that because it was giving me warning signs long before It failed, and stopped all maintanance besides brakes and oil after 160k. Chicago rust had already taken its toll by that point and it was essentially valueless because of it. Otherwise, it was a great vehicle for my needs.

My father's Jeep Liberty had the same P0750 problem. Under hard acceleration it shifted into second gear and stayed there. The walk around I used was to stop the car, turn it off and then start the engine again. That solved the problem temporarily.

Both generations of liberty use the same transmission, but chrysler deleted the dipstick on the KK and came up with an overly complex check procedure. Luckily If you use the kj dipstick and drop it in until it touches the pan at operating temperature, the measurements are the same as the dumb chrysler chart and fancy dipstick!

Please, please do more than just take them on slickrock(i.e. Hells revenge), though. it would be great to see them actually go up some non-slick-rocks. the 3-D trail is very filmable and has several super-cool climbs that would look great on a video.

For the price you paid for that leaking KK with a broken transmission you could have bought a Grand Cherokee WK 4WD 5.7L Hemi with the offroad skid plate package and eLSDs front and rear. It only takes a mild lift and some larger tires to make them into a very capable off roader with V8 power.

Between the two, I'd pick the KJ. I've always thought that generation looked better, and overall, this KJ is in better condition than the KK, and it was half the price.

Agreed, but you know he’s just trolling us, the viewers and commenters. Because you know Nathan would know not to check the oil with the engine running.

Sooo, does Jeep offer the free hidden hitch warranty instal on the US Liberty’s, like they do in Canada to resolve the rear impact /gas tank issue ?

I'd like to see actual upgrades with the leftover budgets, lockers, lifts, and gear, not stripe tape, cow horns, and air fresheners. In the past, I dont feel like the budget was used.

Have you all compared the Jeep wrangler modes such as 2h, 4 auto, 4h and 4L on a traction test? I am curious how the 4 auto compares to the regular 4 wheel drive modes. I have a wrangler Willys 4xe and I am curious how they differ in performance.
