We Bought The Best Budget Bikes & Entered An Enduro Race!
Спорт
Blake Samson, Rich Payne and @gmbntech presenter Anna Cipullo are out in @BikeParkWalesOfficial to compete against one another in a challenging all-day Enduro race! To make things even harder, all presenters have been tasked to race using only budget bikes! Shame someone missed the brief for that part... 🤣

well, he is RICH afterall! 😅
Hannah screaming "I'm gonna DIIIIEEEEE" at every corner is one of the funniest thing i've ever seen 😂 That, and her deciding to descent with a completely flat rear to add to the sketchyness of it all. Blake, as usual, is the perfect example of trying to outpace the issues on the bike by bombing as fast as he can. And Rich "misunderstanding the rules" sure... If you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough to win !

Great video, impressive riding by Anna. It's scary that £1700 can reasonably be considered a "budget" bike these days....
@doubleL_S

It's not. It's just what these guys say so it makes people put more money into mtb and keep it popular and profitable. You can have the best bike for you for 1500 quid. You don't need the best group set or trick brakes etc. They are work the same and the average won't be able to tell between these things.
@scriptosaurusrex

Yeah. It's not budget. You can see it on every video (including this one) where they call an expensive bike 'budget', and all the comments are basically 'u wot m8'?

GMBN has been primarily an advertising channel for its partners for a long time now, and useful or engaging content has fallen a long way behind in priority. We just see the same vid over and over with new bikes or gear to pimp. 2million subs, and how many of those people are riding a "budget" 2k bike? smh

I ride a 06 S-works Enduro, still practically a brand new frame, totally upgraded to modern standards with tubeless tyres, a 1x11 drivetrain and such. I wouldn't trade it for a modern bike even if you paid me ;)

The Laufey is so much fun, I’ve upgraded mine and I take it everywhere, to the trails, to the bike park, …😀👍
Finally, a bike I can relate to-the Orbea Laufey. I am thrilled with mine.
I am also rocking an Orbea Laufey 😍 got my attention high, when I heard it in the video 🤩
Ah the Agressor XCR - got one on the back room sat on my turbo trainer. Soon to be my pub bike.
Reasonably equipped bikes you can take to a grassroots enduro event: Hardtails new or used: Marin SQ Vitus Nucleus 27 Ragley Marley Ragley Mmmbop Nukeproof Scout Full suspension, mostly used: Giant Reign Giant Trance Banshee Rune V2 Spesh Stumpjumper, Enduro non-boost Commencal Meta AM V4 There could be more choices, but these models are most abundant and very well equipped for actual enduro racing. These should be able to finish all the stages and liaisons with zero issues. We can make excuses for cheaper bikes, but I'm not gonna trust a $300 rig to be able to survive more than me, and I suck at staying undamaged when mountain biking.

06 S workds Enduro does that, and relatively big downhills amazingly.
Guys you should set a competition of who can make an old school bike ride better for say £700 tech side could carryout the mods and gmbn side need to race it. That's probably within everyone's budget.
Front is like BMW GS...😂😂 and the dropper is same like mine..😁

Good to see a GT, I had one years back but ended up changing the brakes as they were binding all the time, was a great bike though :)
We haven‘t had ridiculous parts swap for a while. Let‘s find out how bad Rich‘s bike gets with narrower and narrower handlebars and how much Anna‘s bike gains with wider tires for example.
Since when was a brand new £1900 hardtail considered 'budget'?
Would love to see all the presenters (GMBN and EMBN) do a race together on their proper bikes maybe for the xmas special.
Love a budget challenge!
Id love to see a modern geo, travel and wheel size version of the Whyte. Bet that'd be amazing!
Oh rich, I see what you did there... Accidentally bought a bike from a channel's sponsor... Anyway, I currently ride a Laufey as my main bike, and I still got an old GT Avalanche which was basically the entry level version of the Agressor. Nice to see two of my bikes in the same video!

That was fun to watch. I spent a week at Bike Park Wales last July and I cannot wait to go back! I'd even do Kermit on a 1972 Schwinn Stingray!

Nice weather, this was fun! But how about really finding out how fast those old ones (I mean the bikes) can go. Wider bar, shorter stem, best tires that fit and of course the dropper post. Maybe even 1x drivetrain conversion. And it looks like that Whyte still needs serious fork overhaul, doesn't it?

I am so scared of riding in the wet, roots and rocks get so slippery. However in Barcelona it doesn’t rain that much so I can just skip a rainy day or two. Anyway it was a funny video, Anna screaming on every corner or drop, Blake riding harder this ridiculous bike than I ride my proper trail bike and Rich freely interpreting the rules of cheap bike 😂
Was waiting for when you would feature the Orbea Laufey! i had a XC Carbon racer before. But the Laufey just buts a big Smile on my face compared to it! and it can climb very well and go down even better! Hop you feature it more ;)

Cheap bike challenge, Blake borrows Neil's bike, Anna borrows Blake's bike, Richard borrows Orbea's bike, all the same cost then ;-) tbf it was a good fun video and when some enduro bikes are over £8k it's good to know you can still get something good for a tad under £2k
The back wheel of the Whyte...😮 Did 'budget' not stretch to a spoke key?

@@sankaplays3098 Yes, I get that. Point was that a cheap tool + a bit of time and care would've been the budget approach. That's what I do, cos I'm on a budget of peanuts. Still like looking at nice things I can't afford, and see what other riders get up to.

i used to slip up and say my old 3x9 was a "29 speed," (it just came out wrong) much to my engineer dad's dismay...bet she's got a 3x8..?
I was dying🤣🤣 when Blake said, “I’ve got a dropper, it’s here in my pocket.” Showed the clip to my partner and she leaned away saying, “Stay away from me.”
Every time i see someone absolutely sending it on a hardtail i get all warm and fuzzy inside
How do you protect the back against closing in such conditions?
Man I need to finish off a couple of my projects so I can do this kind of stuff
Try riding something like an entry level Carrera hardtail from Halfords or a Challenge hardtail from Argos. ORBEA isn't a budget brand, you're just taking the piss with the video titles at this point.
Guys please upgrade the GT, put Blakes bike in a museum (well rode on that thing BTW) and Rich ... show us more about that bike buddy
So what were the results of Blake and Rich?
So, who was faster when Rich flatted? Awesome content, by the way!

Rich's bike is budget for a enduro ready hardtail.
Really getting your money's worth out of the Whyte aren't you 😂
GMBN do a gravel race on an XC bike?
All three would still beat me down the mountain. That’s the embarrassing prt
Does Rich also have major issues with the zipper of the Gore Jacket? Mine gets stuck all the time and a lot of people complain about it too
I paid £1700 for my nukeproof mega a couple years ago. How out of touch do you have to be to consider £1900 budget
next race each, at each stage each, you have to remove a component from your bike (except wheels and handlebars)
I'm really surprised that you can ride the trails in such wet conditions. Here in Ontario most trails and events are closed to protect the trails from too much wear.

Hello #GMBN team, could you please help me with something, which is important for me: I am 189 cm, with 93 cm inseam and a bit rusty with the back. I want a hardtail MTB trail, with an upright position to ride in parks and in mountain, on trails. I was looking at Canyon Stoic, because usually trail bikes have a slacker head tube and geometry and believe would help. Can you please help me with an advice? I bought an Orbea Onna, XC oriented, but I have to rise the saddle posta lot, for my legs and end up to bent foreard, which is not good for my back and neck. Would a trail bike do the job? Interesting I saw that the reach on my onna is smaller than the one on Canyon Stoic for example or Rose Bonero. Can you help with an advice, please? Thanks and much appreciated 🤗
