In this video we'll show you how to locate the owners of an abandoned property, contact them, evaluate the land and structures, and make an offer.

I was a Realtor for 13 years. You did better in your summery of how to negotiate any deal then most Realtors. Keep up the great work.

Realtors are just people too. The average realtor is just the same as the average person in terms of intelligence, skill or ability. Sure, they have studied real estate, etc. and passed an exam to get their license, but that doesn’t guarantee they’re good at negotiating or even thinking of effective strategies that may be in the buyer’s best interest.
I am fully impressed! It's just a complete kzread.infoUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
The folks that built this place may not have any taste in decorating, but they definitely knew how to build a sturdy house. :) Looking forward to ya'll bringing this place back to life.

It also appears they have not been there in decades either otherwise if it would have been actively used pretty sure they would have done lots of updating over the years. Looks like it never left the 70s and who knows - maybe the previous owners have not been there since the 1970s.....
@TrashPanda5150

@@marlinmr7 My guess, and it has no bearing on facts, is that the guy or part of the family that originally built this either passed away or is very old. The property was passed down to at least a couple people in the family and ended up with someone that has no interest in the house or land. They were probably happy as hell to be rid of it and get some $$ in their pockets.
@marlinmr7
Жыл бұрын
@@TrashPanda5150 I agree as your scenario has a high probability. All the kids want today it seems is a quick $$$ with no consideration for the long term - only the short term. Besides the $$$ then they no longer have to pay property taxes/keep insurance on it either.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a series of videos of you two renovating this place. It would be so cool to see this long neglected, lonely building become livable again. I bet there were a lot of good times had there at one point! You'd have to keep the window from the outhouse in a the newly built outhouse though!

This is exactly what the wife and I walked into when we purchased our off grid cabin! The cabin needed a ton of work but it was salvageable! The best part was that we were able to pay cash out of pocket! Good luck guys!

We bought a similar cabin years ago but it was wall to wall furniture. When we removed the furniture, we discovered they had done nothing but keep putting Decon under the furniture and there were many dried out mouse flatties stuck to the floor. It took several hours with a putty knife scraping those carcasses up. Fortunately, they no longer smelled. Overall, though, we got a good deal for a little elbow grease. 😁
I know between the 2 of you superb building experience. You’ll have this house a dreamy cabin in no time. I can’t wait see this completely renovated gem. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

If you're of a certain age (I'm 58) and you've watched an episode or two of 'The Brady Bunch,' then you'll realize that orange, brown, and green were the interior colors of choice during the late 60s/early 70s period.
@sixteeschyl

@@crkmt I'm 54 & can remember our psychedelic hallway & busy stair carpet. The kitchen was indeed orange with a splash of lime green & looked pretty modern when it was fresh. I guess abandonment of this home & a build up of debris, plus low natural light during winter, adds to the gloominess.

I kinda think it was built in the 1950s-60s, with additional decor and additions into the 70s. The light fixtures and most of the furniture are 50s or even 1940s.

Awesome if You and Brooke can handle the Bunker she will have a home in no time. Can't wait to see the land around the home with out the snow. This is the winter version now the spring 🌼🌱 version thank you for taking us along with you ❤️
I did this exact thing and bought a great old log cabin that had been vacant for 25 years. The owner is elderly and happy for the cash. Your advice about making a fair offer is on point. He said he received many offers but they were so low he would rather see the property sit than to give it away.
A retro outhouse that matches the retro kitchen. Cool! That attic looks amazing for no one living there for a while. Wonder how much that old whiskey jug would sell for. Thanks for the tour! Looking forward to seeing the renovation!❤️
Good insight for a property many would reject outright for the obvious issues. Glad you were able to get a purchase agreement. Can't wait to see 'how it's done' when you do a segment on this property.

Cool beans . The bones are straight . Love that well pump. They are a high dollar item .
Great potential! Personally, I like the 70's green glass cabinet doors and their use of one of the panels in the outhouse. I'd find a way to incorporate them into the new design. But first, LOTS of cleaning and clean-up of trees. Bonfire time for trash furniture and old paneling.
Never underestimate the power of a couple that are not afraid to do some hard work on this beautiful piece of land. Looking forward to see your progress.
Love this. There are sooo many hidden gems in Michigan. This place exudes potential. I’d love to work on this. Have fun guys, thanks for sharing your knowledge and humor.
Brown, orange, and green was the thing in the 70's one wonders. Nice house if you can salvage some of it and the well is classic. Thank you for bringing us along. Stay safe and blessings.
I would LOVE for you to get Joe Para on for April Fools. Just write a script and ask him to come do it. This is so perfectly up his alley. The good natured joy it could bring the world would be almost immeasurable

I actually like and watch both of your channels greetings from Mississippi
You can thank the metal roof for not much water damage inside.
Let the videos commence
"Diamond in the rough" is what I see! Would love to find something similar as "off grid" is perfect. Over and above a cleanup remodel of this place - suggest toying with the latest item in "off grid" living which is solar that charges batteries and backed up by a generator that runs when there is not enough sun to keep the batteries charged as all power comes from the batteries. Getting cheaper and cheaper to do so - far most cost effective than even as recently as 5 years ago. Can see a lot of work but a lot of fun as well as self satisfaction from cleaning up and redoing this off grid cabin plus years of entertainment and good times after that! 🙂👍 You need to keep/redo the outhouse too in my opinion as it probably has historical signficance and nothing wrong with a backup system too. 🤣🤣🤣
The fact that those fallen trees didn't knock the house over, says a lot about how it was built. I hope you get it.
You're sooooo right Dave. Don't eliminate the competition by a high bid, just have an acceptable bid when you have no competition. Excellent thanks Guys 👍👍

Hey Dave, I've watched you're videos where you painted a car black, I've seen you use a Harbor Freight saw blade sharpener, I've watched you and your lovely wife each build a cabin, I've watched you and Daisy take a long ride to Alaska, you have such great videos it boggles the mind, so keep the videos coming. Thank you so much. You and Brook do a lot of teaching to people who need to learn. Thank you!
What a great deal for a beautiful piece of land. I know you both will bring this cabin and the property back to life.
You guys are living the dream for sure. Good find, that's a beautiful piece of land.
I’m looking forward to seeing some build updates. I live in an extremely high cost of living area yet by finding owners and asking I have a cabin 1 hr from home that hadn’t been renovated in 5 decades. It’s beautiful now and I use it weekly. A year ago I bought a half acre with a 3000sq ft house on it that burned to the ground 7yrs ago and was abandoned . I got the lot for 1/3 value and in 4 months of work I shoveled 32,000kg of spoil into my cheap Craigslist dump truck. Starting next month I’m building 2 small cabins made completely of salvaged 100 yr old houses from my city. If you’re keen and willing to work hard there’s opportunity everywhere, even in real estate. Keep those videos coming.
You do such a great job in narration you should have your own weekly television show on regular TV. And by the way you look like Tim McGraw.
Love the curtains with the cabbage roses. Don't think I've ever seen an outhouse with a vent before. Thanks for taking us along.
Brilliant walk-thru evaluation and accompanying narration of what he sees and doesn't see, what he's willing to offer to make it work for himself and his wife. The knowledge gleanable from this video alone in assessing a property and acquiring it, is priceless. You never cease to amaze me Dave, in your genuine honest opinion about how to go about searching out an off-grid property with /without an abode. Congrats to the Whipples on your purchase and I can only hope & pray you & Brooke are going to make this a YT adventure of restoring and repairing a totally unique, run-down, abandoned family home, that we can vicariously indulge ourselves in the pleasure of coming along & watching. So excited for you both 👏👏👏👏May Gods blessings continue to play the most significant role in all you do in life and be the light that shines on a hill to draw others into His kingdom. Selah and Amen. 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏✌️👍👋👏🇺🇲
This is going to be a great series! Thanks for taking us on this new adventure!
That metal framing holding up the floor joists is gold, it will still be there when we are dead and gone
So glad I pulled the trigger on this video. I bought 5 acres of trees last year and wondered how deep my neighbors' wells were. Now I know.
I cant wait to see what you and Brooke do with this cabin 🙂
Can't wait for the rehab videos.
I credit that center load bearing wall/support for holding up the trees and keeping them from collapsing the roof. The fact that the trees hit it without making a hole in the roofing is somewhat miraculous. Maybe beavers gently lowered the trees onto the roof?
I can smell the "musty" from here!!. Lol. LOVE the green bottle glass in the outhouse.
Looking forward to all the content you're going to be able to make with this new land and cabin. Great job guys!!
Nice find, can't wait for the start of this project. Since this is a home, curious to see how you will deal with the utilities.
You Sir, are a great teacher.
Awesome video! My girlfriend and I live in a church we bought for $1.00 (CDN, lol) and have purchased another abandoned place for $6600. The second place has most Reno's done, all new plumbing, electrical, and windows. It was filled to capacity with power tools and a very large off grid solar system including 20 gel batteries. The stuff is out there folks! Get hunting!!!
I’m so excited to see what you do with the property! The land and trees are beautiful!
