It's funny to me how many KZread 3rd gen KLR's you see have aftermarket mirrors already. The stock mirrors work fine. I broke one of my stock KLR mirrors once and welded it back together and I've been using it ever since than. It's going on 15 years. I didn't change my stock foam air filter until it reached 35k miles. There is nothing at all wrong with a completely stock KLR 650.

I enjoy making tweaks to anything I get. Boats/trucks etc. Its fun to change things. Yeah I still have the stock mirrors. I'm a big guy, so for me, the visibility wasnt too great in the stock ones. So these are slightly wider and it's way better

If I had those LEDs on my KLR I would turn them on all the time they would be on during the day to keep idiots from pulling out in front of me. Just in case you really want to keep the bike for a long time you might want to get the doohickey mod "which is the counter balancer chain tensioner" and the thingama Bob mod "that's a thermostat modification to keep the bike running at a good temperature when you're in traffic". Kawasaki does know about the doohickey it doesn't seem to give a darn about it because not that many people put a lot of miles on these bikes believe it or not. They say the justification for them to do the modification just dont play out because of the warranty payout doesn't call for it. If you just do those two modifications and do your oil changes, and you know and keep up with the maintenance and of course don't ride it hard you could probably get over 100,000 Mi on this bike.

I hope to make that my third bike this fall. I am not a kawasaki fan, but already own 2, as they make the bikes I like and can afford. Not sure if it will be the KLR or I also want to get the Honda Trail 125. I will see what life brings. Congrats buddy, you will love that bike I am sure if you did the homework on it.

I was worried about the sorta high seat height, but at 6ft tall, I can keep my feet flat on the ground with no issue. Plenty of speed for highway riding too

So the fastest I've gone so far was 80mph, at least displayed on the dash. This bike, for me at least, is 3 digits faster on the display screen than actual GPS monitoring. So I was really going 77mph. Handled fine! I got the windshield extendor pieces and it makes a noticeable difference. I haven't done too much gravel roads yet! I'm gonna make a video on that soon. But I didn't feel like the bike was gonna lose control on me. I feel in charge whenever I'm riding, nothing feels out of my hands or sketchy. It's a comfortable feeling bike, apart from the stock seat! Lol. I've been looking into these bikes for years and I'm glad I have one now!

Bummer... The KLR is an antiquated piece of crap. I have one and its's the worst bike I have owned in 50 years.. Get rid of it before it leaves you stranded...

@@OurMagicalJourneyFL Well little that will do you when your in the sticks and the balance chain tensioner breaks and you have a catastrophic engine failure. Or the head warps because there is no thermostat.. Ect. ect.. Carry extra brake pads. I go through a set in a month. Take an extra 1/2 gal. of oil. Once its broken in it burns oil like a diesel truck...

@@OurMagicalJourneyFL None of that happened to dude here. Its the most reliable motorcycle in the world, its track record speaks for itself despite what Bro on Internet says. Iv had 2 in the past, 48,000 miles combined on the two and zero problems never did any of the so called "must do" mod's and I rode them hard.

@@OurMagicalJourneyFL what booboo head is talking about is the KLR Doohickey and Thermobob (these are actual things, Google). The only reason anyone knows about these things is because everything else on a KLR lasts so long that it makes these two issues stand out. The Thermobob upgrade should be first if you want to keep the cylinder temperature consistent (always a good thing, and helps keep the KLR cylinder clearances tight over time). The other is replacing the Doohickey, which the Doohickey itself on the Gen 3 isn't the problem it used to be, but the Doohickey spring very much is, and the spring should be replaced before the bike hits 4k miles. Do those, and there are several examples of KLRs that got past 200k miles, and one that's close to 300k.
