    Yea, had this been the midway point this would be a fine video to make. The reason no one has ever been that efficient before is because it’s incredibly hard to do it for 82 games. The year Harden averaged 36 ppg he had an entire month where he averaged 40+. Yet only wilt has ever averaged 40+ ppg for a whole season. Things have started out great but some of these guys are going to start to decline as the season goes on.

    Luka is a gimmick, but everyone blames everyone and everything else. He gets more points and rebounds because they don’t play traditional, but not playing traditional also is why they are a .500 team. No one says it’s Luka’s fault he has to learn to play more traditional, they just say, I wish he had a top five teammate. Sucks on defense, shoots poorly, and can’t play with traditional bigs. Oh, and he’s super maxed and not well liked, so it’ll be almost impossible to ever build a team around him. 🤦🏾‍♂️

    And what jxmy saying is that if this might seem confusing there is a simple explanation : evolution. Between different eras the game has changed alot. And one of the reasons is quantity. Yes quantity affect quality. More teams brings more players. More players brings more competition. More competition leads to increase the odds of improving so you can win which finally leads to more odds for a new star to come up. And as a new star is born others will be inspired ahd motivated to get better so they could stay close or even pass him. A self powered circle. In one word evolution. Which explains why the average level of today's era is better than those from former eras. Which again explains why as the years pass a more complete and better player will consider as the goat. So far we have Bill and Wilt, then Magic Kareem and Larry, then MJ and we might have to wait so we can see who will surpass MJ. I know some don't believe this is possible but in 100 years from now maybe not even one of this players will be in the eternally goat convo.

    coming back to the end of the regular season, currently there are 5 people who finished the season averaging over 31 ppg, there are 7 people with over a score of 42 in ppg+rpg+apg and steph and shai cudve been 8th and 9th if they had done only a little better, as they scored 41.7 and 41.8. not only this, but KD has the highest true shooting percentage with 67.7% for a person scoring at least 25, 26, 27, 28 and even 29 ppg in a season, and he accomplished this in the 2022-2023 season. Additionally, at 74.4%, louis king is doing the same for at least 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20+ ppg this season. Jokic is doing the exact same for 21, 22, 23, and 24+ ppg at 70.1 ts%. This season, true shooting records were set all the way from at least 13 ppg to scoring at least 29 ppg. That is absolutely incredible. 2 of the 5 greatest nba games of all time according to gamescore were played this season, 3 of the 10 greatest, and 4 of the 15 greatest. Thats absurd. For anyone who said this wasn't going to continue when this video was published, you were 90% wrong. The stats are still crazier than ever. Two big points you didn't mention: 1. Totals are highly correlated to pace. Change it to per 100 possessions instead of per game and they're still great, but not best ever 2. This is a 20 game sample, and over the course of a full season most of the crazy numbers from the beginning go back to earth

  • @DebasedAnon

    @DebasedAnon

    Yup, pace always gets ignored for whatever reason. Take pace into account and Wilt goes from unbelievable numbers to very good numbers, LeBron goes from "omg hes just as good at this age" to "hes good but nowhere near what he was" and for Kobe/Jordan it makes it vastly more impressive what they did. If you take into account all the rule changes and how easy defensive fouls are to commit now and you'll see the numbers shift even more back to normalcy.

LeBrons career basically follows the trens of higher scoring games which has made his longevity seem vastly better than it is in reality. He has noticeably declined but if the average scoring keeps increasing even if he contributes less and less he'll still be around the same, its the same reason why former NBA players will tell you that MJ would average 45-50 without a hint of irony cause he could break 40 easily.

    The problem with the PPG graphic is that nowadays defense is treated with much more scrutiny resulting in higher amounts of foul calls and points. Teams are giving up more shots and transitioning to a completely offensive game which is why you can expect 9/10 games to go triple digits and beyond. I think the mvp caliber players are all good scorers but these numbers are heavily inflated from just playing in a different era.

    This should be factored in and is definitely worth a mention. The league is so slanted towards offense nowadays in terms of foul calls and rules (players can take three steps sometimes even more, moving screens are rarely called, etc.) that you do have to take these insane numbers with a grain of salt. Players are averaging so many points because the league wants them to. Look no further than their international numbers to prove it.

    Bullshit, only Embiid and Lebron averaged over 30ppg last season, same for the season before it was Curry and Bradley beal. Players are just on fire this season, Curry, KD, Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, Kawhi, AD, Dame, PG, Kyrie, KAT ect are all in their prime and Lebron, Harden, Doncic, Tatum, Ja, Mitchell, Booker, SGA ect are close to their prime. The league just has never been this deep because their is no difference of playstyle, pace or rules between last season and this season .

    Nah, his vids are bad. Jimmy with bad take again and conveniently left out how easy it is to get combined 42 pts reb ast these days. Players averaging 27+ points and 15+ combined rebounds and assists are so common the past 5 years. So there are multiple (5+?) players each year with combined 42 stats in the past 5-7 years.

    Not sure you can put those three players into the same box of "rookies who started off well and then went downhill". Rose was an MVP with multiple great seasons before an injury compromised him and now he's still playing well but not at the same level. Griffin is a similar story but was never anywhere near as great as Rose. Lin had an amazing stretch of games in one season and that's about all that can be said for him. So, again, three very different players.

    Awesome video. And these stats are mind blowing. Also, I always maintained that the MVP should be about the individual performance and value to the team, no matter the record of that team. Being on a bad team or playing with guys that are underperforming doesn't make it less of an accomplishment if you're playing on a high level, it makes it harder. The fact that Curry is 10th is just insane.

    It will be interesting to see how this plays out after the whole season- surely fatigue and consistency is a factor. The crazy part is a few of them would still be in the 30,5,5 club even after playing 70+ games which shows how competitive the league has become. Honestly this is a good thing, as it means teams will be more balanced and there won't be much difference between a bad and good team.
