“We are in a debt trap” - Nouriel Roubini on 10 ‘megathreats’ to our world and how to stop them

Nouriel Roubini is an economist, a professor in New York, a global economic consultant and an author who, amongst many distinguishing things, was one of those who foresaw the 2008 credit crunch and financial crisis.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
His latest work is called ‘Megathreats’, and it details 10 trends that make it more likely than not that we are heading for a global economic crash of stagnant growth, debt crises and high inflation that will cause decades of dystopian suffering and injustice. No wonder they call him Dr. Doom.
In this episode, Nouriel joins Krishnan to talk about climate change, job-displacing artificial intelligence and our future.

Starting out with a with a professional that knows the ropes of the choppy but profitable market is the best way to achieve getting a well structured portfolio. That’s why I have been working with ‘'Deborah Jean Dykstra'’ and that doesn’t make me daft because in financial dealings one have to be prudent. Most traders enter exit with a quick 10% profit which is not bad in a general opinion but why not aim higher, it doesn’t necessarily mean to be greedy.

The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.

Despite utilizing the correct strategies and possessing the right assets, there can still be variations in the investment returns among different investors. It is important to acknowledge that experience plays a crucial role in investment success. Personally, I realized the significance of this and sought the guidance of a market analyst, which enabled me to substantially grow my account to nearly a million. I strategically withdrew my profits just before the market correction, and now I am taking advantage of the buying opportunities once again.

The unfortunate issue is that other markets are being decimated. If you want to stay green, you have to rely on a lot of diversification. Currently up 14% and being careful. I agree with your sentiments, having invested in the stock market. It was all going well but it's turning and the stock market here in the UK has been falling, all this last week. This was the second of a 5 day decline in the last month. A lot has been wiped out this last week but, chances are, it may well rebound. Problem is, I don't understand the markets that well, as yet, but leaving my life savings in banks and building societies was not an option. If you price people out of the ability to live, as discussed by the so called expert here 100% increase in carbon tax, imagine that. The governments raising yet more money through taxation whilst reducing your prospects of affordable living. Less money in the free markets. More shrinking in the World economies, without more taxation. What happens next? You might want to read about what happened in Cyprus, but don't do nothing. The interviewer gives this guy, way too much credit. This chap may know the markets and the economic history, but the issue here is existential. He is right about crypto but I saw through crypto anyway, that was easy enough to do. Tangible assets like land and housing aren't quite so desirable today due to fly tipping on land and the likelihood that houses will have to go through costly upgrades to meet the EPC certification process and legal limits on the EPC changing here in the UK. Failure to comply will result in homes being taken off you. Climate lockdowns are coming and it all started at WEF, the World Economic Forum. Our own Monarch, King Charles makes 25% on the green taxes allegedly providing him with around £200 million a year. Of course he's a pro-climate orator who endorses measures. I might well do the same in his position. However, is there not a conflict of interest, in this respect, benefitting and promoting the cause. I would have a problem with that, in the same position. Either I am onboard with a greener economy and promoting it as a non-beneficiary. Or I'm a benefactor, in which case I don't have the right to convince other people to contribute, and increase my income. It has to be one or the other, for me. As a keen cycling enthusist, I don't have a problem living a greener life. I do less than 3k miles a year in my car, I don't go on holiday and I grow food. Even that's not enough for these do well types that live a life of luxury. The 15 minute city is on its way and society will eventually be controlled as in the novel by George Orwell 1984. He just happened to be out, by a few years say, but yes society will be screwed right down to the point where they charge you, perhaps even for the air that you breathe. Humans are screwed, but not all humans. The Matrix is what you are seeing, battery humans plugged in and when you're too old, they'll pull you out and shove you into a termination unit. Perhaps a bit like Logan's Run - another film by the way, but life imitates art. Check out who WEF are and get wised up, that would be my advice. Better to know what they're planning and how you might protect yourself against what's coming.

Historically, the gold standard was what caused inflation and instability. You are correct in avoiding the stock market. However, I don't see gold or silver coming back in any significant way unless the BRICS countries decide to use it as the policy breaking away from the dominant global currency which is the US dollar. Under the principles of "Modern Monetary Theory," our government can (through congress) print the money necessary to deal with anything it's people need. Universal healthcare, universal basic income, a federal jobs guarantee, etc., but it won't. The rich and corporations took over the US government decades ago. It does not function in any way like a democracy for and by "the people." So, unless "the people" decide to start working together to take it back and rebuild a democracy, I don't see any real solution to prevent the collapse of the west. Starting with Europe!

It's only apparently easy for the interviewer! A good interviewer already pretty much knows the likely answer and is leading the interviewee with that answer to the next point. When they ask what appears obvious or even superficial questions, they're asking what most people want to know, or putting propositions up that the interviewer doesn't necessarily share, but wants the interviewee to dispose of. This takes enormous research and agility mentally when something is said that requires them to change tack..The fact that the interview flowed so well, is evidence that the interviewer was very well prepared indeed. It's not a mark of their scope of personal knowledge the questions they ask, not at all. Some are indeed probing because after they dispose of the easy stuff or the preconceptions widely held, it gets more deep. As it did here.

Nouriel Roubini, also known as "Dr. Doom," is a well-known economist and professor at New York University's Stern School of Business. In a 2015 article for Project Syndicate, Roubini identified 10 "megathreats" that he believed could pose significant risks to the global economy and financial system. These megathreats include: Geopolitical risks: Roubini argued that geopolitical tensions and conflicts, such as those involving Russia, the Middle East, and North Korea, could lead to economic disruption and financial instability. Cybersecurity risks: Roubini argued that the increasing reliance on digital technologies and interconnected systems could make financial systems more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Demographic changes: Roubini argued that aging populations and declining birth rates in developed countries could lead to slower economic growth and increased pressure on social welfare systems. Climate change: Roubini argued that the negative impacts of climate change, such as natural disasters and resource depletion, could have serious economic consequences. Income inequality: Roubini argued that rising income inequality could lead to social unrest and political instability, as well as slower economic growth. Health pandemics: Roubini argued that the potential for a major health pandemic, such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic, could have significant economic impacts. Energy price shocks: Roubini argued that fluctuations in energy prices, particularly oil, could lead to economic disruption and financial instability. Sovereign debt crises: Roubini argued that the high levels of sovereign debt in some countries could lead to financial crises and economic instability. Market excesses: Roubini argued that financial market excesses, such as bubbles and excessive leverage, could lead to financial instability and economic downturns. Policy mistakes: Roubini argued that policy mistakes, such as deflationary or inflationary policies, could lead to economic disruption and financial instability.

This is an excellent and level headed view of the real issues we face globally that we’re not prepared for. The only two big things to add are: 1. Global population stagnation and decline (increasing numbers of old people going forward and fewer young workers). The vast majority of the world are not having enough kids to sustain the population and many countries are going to see populations halve over the next 80 years. War, pandemics, economic recessions/depression will accelerate this trend. Many leading experts expect the global population to decline by 1 billion people over the next 80 years. An older global population will be less productive and cost more in health and social care so higher taxes on a shrinking population of young workers. 2. Property being a poor investment currently as significantly overvalued on the back of cheap debt and speculation. In some areas of the UK for example property prices can be 12-14 times the average salary in the area compared to the sustainable 4 times average salary of the last 100 years. Young people being expected to pay triple what previous generations did for a home has lead to economic decline and instability. The unsustainable price growth over the last 20 years is very unlikely to be seen again especially when you consider whats happening with the global population, higher taxes and the servicing of the huge amounts of debt.

It has been hidden from the eyes of every living thing And concealed from the birds of the heavens. may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this worldrather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh[b]was put off when you were circumcised by[c] Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[ 16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebrationor a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Common sense? Like that automation is going to replace most jobs? Don't hold your breath. Anyone who thinks that is so detached from reality they are likely irredeemable. And global warming? How's that working out for Europe and Great Britain? I guess if they want to starve in the cold and dark who can stop them? I don't see a drop in the value of ocean front property. Florida was supposed to be flooded by year 2000. Then there was the ice age scare of the late 70s that I lived through. You'd think a smart person would learn from their mistakes? His good buddy Nassim Taleb claimed at the start of the plandemic that if everyone wore masks transmission would be lowered by 99%. He's never admitted that masks do nothing and now says that if it weren't for anti vaxxers refusing the gene therapies the plandemic would have been over a long time ago. If you insist on agreeing with Roubini maybe you can also get boosted every 60 days like the CDC recommends.

@@lonevoice My logic about global warming is to avoid scientific argument and go straight to argument about it's effects. There are none. Their predictions are so off it's obvious it's not science but narrative driven for a purpose we can't be certain of. Jordan Peterson has had at least 2 climate scientists on recently for long interviews. I listened to the one with the older fellow. If you listen to that you'll understand why it's even a theory. It's driven by an unknown woke force. It's not real. It's made up like economics or psychology or pharmacology or medicine. These are glorified stamp collecting, not science. Chemistry is science. The rest uses it's reputation as science to fool the gullible, which is most everyone. I'm not saying any of this because of my feelings. This is hard, incontrovertible fact. Philosophy of science. I failed to mention in my post that I've worked with robots at work for 26 years. I'm saying this not to try to be right or to have an impact or manipulate the narrative or anything like that. Robots and automation will never, ever become a reality. The probability is absolute zero. Everything I said about people being out of touch is true. I work in a factory fixing things. I have a significant education. Most engineers at work are hopelessly stupid where it counts because they are so compliant and defer to experts in fields other than theirs. Then they become incompetent in their own field. Most of what I know I learned on my own so I've gotten good at figuring out who knows what they're talking about. Do you know that they don't really know how electricity works? They know how it works in a vacuum. The problem is when you apply it to real materials with boundaries and whatnot. They have to make simplified models so the equations don't become unwieldy. I'm getting off topic from what this theoritician is going on about. Roubini is part of the WEF. These people are Luciferians, the people that have run the world from the beginning. They invented evolution (mountains of counter evidence on this) and The Big Bang (more mountains here) and they're Malthusians. They want to genocide humanity because Lucifer has convinced them this is the only way to avoid destruction. No Lucifer didn't write them a letter or phone them. They've been subtly massaged through innumerable ways (like Evolution and Big Bang) including speaking to their hearts. If you don't believe in a spirit world and God and all that treat this as a thought experiment. Climate change caused by carbon dioxide is being used to force a narrative. They're using what isn't even a pollutant and isn't even significantly contributing to temperature rise as an excuse to destroy the earth. Right now they're working to destroy the south part of Bolivia so they can get lithium and other metals. They overthrew the Bolivian government so they could strip the place with impunity. Elon Musk bragged on twitter that he had the CIA do it. Climate change is being used for them to pollute at unprecedented levels. Then they decide they need one world government so they can guide things the way they want. One world religion for the same reason. One world digital currency, laws, digital IDs. These people decided they were going to identify and track every living organism in existence. I think the logic is that if some corporation owns that bear than they have a vested interest in it's survival. Now their trying to cut off the food supply. They tried it in Sri Lanka and they're trying to outlaw meat production in the Netherlands. Fertilizer is in short supply because of these big brain's ideas. I'm talking as if I'm telling my younger self what I wish I'd known back in the day. I guarantee there will never be fusion energy, people living on the moon, people living on Mars (maybe a few crazies that never thought about high energy, hair slower than the speed of light proton bombardment), people living in space (Musk knows this), green energy (I studied thermodynamics in school - I've never been able to disavow even one person of their crazy energy fantasies, and that's real science), aliens will never be found or appear (if they do it will be a fallen angel end times ruse of some sort), human consciousness will never be transferred into a computer or robot or brought back from freezing, humans will never be integrated into chips or computers without it having disastrous consequences. I could go on and on but look how the big brains have screwed up with floride, chlorine, bromine, statins, vaccines (not one vaccine in all of history has ever been placebo tested - I kid you not). The levels of autoimmune disease and autism are up 300 times since the early 1970s. The big brains say that's just because they're better at diagnosing it now. Do you spot the gaping whole in their reasoning? Where are all the autists in their 60s? Is there a reason their diagnosing can't be used on them? In short, all I'm doing is presenting disconfirmatory evidence. It's easy. Most of the science I've mentioned has at least ten times more evidence showing the theory couldn't possibly be true and yet they persist. If you want you could look up a book called Seeing Red. There's plenty where that came from. Or for vaccines Turtles All the Way Down.

@@bunsw2070 You have written too much for me to answer in detail. I will just focus on what you started with. You say that you avoid and presumably are not interested in "scientific argument" but what about scientific evidence? At what point does evidence become useful? Would you for example disagree that 50 million years ago the Earth's temperature was about 14 degrees higher than now? Evidence indicates that carbon dioxide levels peaked at about 1400 parts per million (ppm) compared with 420ppm today and 280ppm in pre-industrial times. Are you saying that none of these changes affected temperature? If not then what do you think did?

I appreciate this analysis...it helps to listen to someone who not only is very knowledgeable about the subject matter but can 'speak out about what the isolated/normal human is undergoing.' Dystopia is a bit of reality for a reason...it is where some of us are.

Nouriel I appreciate your approach to teaching.. To my understanding this just proves how much we need an edge as investors because playing the market like everyone else just isn’t good enough, we just need to hold onto our hopes and wait to see how things turn out because market movements are almost always unpredictable. In my portfolio, I'm noticing more red than green.
