There’s a clear correlation between the two and you don’t need to be a dumbass. The same way it’s sad that this child died, it’s sad that over 34,000 Palestinians have died within a matter of months. And we sympathise with their families too that are experiencing severe ptsd as a result of all the lose they’ve suffered from.

It is a fact that the man was immediately taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash that happened prior to him attacking people with a sword. Injuries that *did prevent* police from immediately questioning him and putting him in jail. But injuries that *did not prevent* him from going on a murderous rampage. Killing a 14 year old boy, and grievously harming law enforcement officers that tried to stop him. I don't care what human rights people have in regards to how the system treats them after an arrest is made. In my opinion, you forfeit all those rights when you take the life of an innocent child.

Not true. Tbe psych wards are jam packed. They are however jam packed with harmless and innocent people with learning difficulties, autism, neuroendocrine/hormone disorders, and drug sensitivities. Those people are being horrifically abused by hospital personnel. Dangerous and aggressive people are not dealt with by psychiatry due to cowardice and the fact that the majority of staff are female.

Apparently he had headphones in and could not hear the warnings from his neighbours. Just on his way to school. She has PTSD symptoms poor woman from witnessing it. Hope she's asked for a mental health referral to get treated.

A guy threatened to beat one of my friend outside job, my friend knew the guy and knew where he worked and lived.. he called police, they told him they are on their way. No one came but After 2 weeks , they send him a letter with an apology that police tried hard but couldnt find the man who threatened him ...that sword guy also may have threatened many but police will consider this as joke unless someone innocent is killed...

I live in Northern Ireland. Police have been routinely armed since the 1940s. They are still armed today. I watched these videos. Officers running around watching him climb over garage roofs and finally tasering him. There would have been initial casualties, because he could not have been interdicted by police, but when they arrived, if armed, this might have ended sooner. The image of officers shouting at a guy on a garage roof in plain sight of police and shouting to residents to 'lock your doors' shows how inadequate unarmed police can be.

Adding more weapons into the mix is not the solution. Once the police were after him, they would have kept innocent people away from him and just waited till he was too tired or cornered. No point in risking more lives for the sake of arming police officers (who, by the way, inflict violence of their own on the public because they're human beings as well).

@davidf4897 - Your view may not be a popular one. But I agree with you. An unarmed police service is wholly inadequate for responding to these types of situations. If every officer at least carried a Taser, those two officers may not have been injured, and the assailant could have been stopped far sooner.

Banning sales of swords is not the answer. How many times in the last decade did you see anyone attacked with a sword in the UK!

@Cusera "Banning sales of swords is not the answer" There was a reason armies used to be armed with swords instead of table knives, and there is no necessary reason to have a sword. Of course banning swords will not fix the problem, but it can be part of an effective solution to reduce the frequency of things like this happening.

@@SarthorS The point being that the frequency of sword attacks is already very low compared to say kitchen knife attacks. If this guy didn’t have a sword then a large kitchen knife would have been equally deadly. Banning the sale of swords isn’t going to have a material impact on mass stabbing because a a sword isn’t necessary in the first place. We don’t know much about the perpetrator at the moment but it’s likely he has mental health issues, so perhaps better investment in mental health care would have more effect.

If only you had been there to share your wisdom, you could have made the raising of armies so much cheaper. You hear the same ridiculous argument from American gun nuts. Knives are just as dangerous as guns. If you have something that is explicitly and symbolically a weapon readily on hand, then it greatly increases the chance that that weapon will be used in anger. Or even someone brings a weapon to just intimidate but not intending to use it, there is a chance that they will be forced to. And now what would have been a scuffle or punch-up becomes much more deadly.

@@SarthorS Seriously? You can’t work out that a man with a knife is more deadly to an unarmed child than a man with a sword is to an armoured warrior? Armies of the past used swords because their enemies were armed with swords. The average British citizen is armed with… nothing. So yes, a kitchen knife is just as deadly as a sword in modern Britain. Because both can kill. And a knife is arguably worse because it’s easy to conceal both before a crime is comitted, and after.

This is absolutely horrific. Heartbreaking for the boys parents and family..

@@Karlos.xx.travels I have a neighbour who has always been a bit odd, he has no friends because he isn't a nice person and he has been in trouble with the law for stalking women. A couple of months ago his behaviour became bizarre even for him, I found him standing outside in his pyjamas at 6.00am just staring into space. I phoned the police and was told that it's not their problem and basically told me to jog on. I then phone for an ambulance and was told to call the police. I haven't seen the bloke for at least a week and his mail is sticking out of his letter box and you know what? I couldn't give a toss but rest assured that if he has offed himself and his corpse is found when it starts to smell I will definitely be going to the press and telling them that I tried to get help but was ignored, I will tell any inquest the same.

Sadly they don't want to tackle it because any talk of it would be followed swiftly by accusations of racism. Toby Blair blamed knife crime on "black culture" back in 2007 and had a hard time because of it. Imagine saying something like that now? So we continue to ignore the issue because they mainly target each other and being perceived as non racist is far more important than trying to tackle the issue.

My friend's son was with the victim the day before he was killed, so I am disgusted by the hypocrisy that we are witnessing. This man "TERRORISED" the neighborhood with a huge sword, but he has been "humanised" and protected by the authorities under the pretence of caring for the family. We want this "terrorist" to be labelled as such and for measures taken to ensure that our communities are safer. Our mental health services have been cut to shreds, our NHS is unrecognisable, our police force offers a shoestring service and yet we pay our taxes and continue to have expectations.
