Wayne Rainey Exclusive Interview

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2022 #GoodwoodFOS saw three-time #MotoGP World Champion #WayneRainey ride his 1992 #Yamaha YZR500 up the famous hill, for the first time in 29 years.
#Rainey, who was paralysed from the chest down after a crash in 1993, emotionally put on a show for his devoted fans across the weekend at #Goodwood.
#BikeSocial were lucky to spend 20 minutes with the 61-year-old after his first run on Thursday at the #FOS for an exclusive interview, so sit back, relax and enjoy.

A real racer from the past. 185HP 320 lbs wet, no rider aids. Man against machine. Wayne said these bikes were unforgiving, and a lot of riders got hurt. He still looks great, after all the hell he's been through.Great attitude.

Almost in tears. So many memories from my youth is about Wayne and Kevin. Used to hate you Wayne - cause you always beat my hero Kevin for the championship. One of the GP’s I have watched again and again is Eastern Creek’91. You where flying. In perfect balance and control. Poetry in motion really. Thanks for everything 🙏❤️

Start of the '92 season, Doohan making great use of the superior "big bang" Honda, Rainey rode the Yamaha harder than I've ever seen anyone ride a bike. The most impressive rider I ever saw.

Agreed. I've been following MotoGP (and collected Motocourse) since the early '80's, and used to go to Laguna Seca for all the GP's and AMA Superbike races (I have ticket 0000001 to the 1988 AMA Superbike race signed by Doug Polen!) until '91 when I left CA. Those 2-strokes were so pure, but so brutal, the riders today couldn't handle them. That's one reason why Rossi will ALWAYS be more of a legend than MM, because he won the last 2-stroke title, AND won the 4-stroke title before all the electronics now, AND won on both Honda and Yamaha. I was always a Schwantz fan (from having seen his first AMA Superbike race at Willow Springs in '85 I think it was), but always very much admired Rainey, Lawson, Mamola, Gardner, Doohan, Beatty, etc. That truly was the Golden Age of MotoGP. I miss it. Glad to see Rainey be able to ride again!

@@kx8960 I myself have followed MotoGP for a number of a years thanks to the great Valentino Rossi and I was even lucky enough to go to the British Grand Prix last year to see him race it was truly magical I was born in 1999 so I never saw Rainey, Doohan or Kevin race but because I’m such a massive motorsport nut I’ve done a lot of research and I’ve seen a good few races of Rainey’s, Doohan’s and Kevin’s and it was sensational racing But I will always maintain that Rossi is the GOAT

I cant forget the most amazing track skill I have ever seen, Wayne At Laguna Seca. I watched Him slide his 500 while the front wheel was off the ground mid corner and during turn 6 exit , then without setting the wheel down ( maintain the front wheel 2-3 inches off the ground the entire way up the hill, and it was super human because there are several rises and drops on that hill. Setting it down, at the top to late brake on the approach to the cork screw. Lap after lap. He was and is a god, and a true gentleman.

I had the privilege of knowing that young Wayne Rainey back in Junior High and High School. In one of our Junior High classes (Lakeside Jr. High Norwalk Ca.) we were tasked to give a presentation in front of the class on our passion or ambitions in life. Wayne gave his presentation on his young motorcycle career, racing at the local So. Cal tracks while displaying his helmet, leathers and trophies. The students in the class graded each presentation and Wayne's presentation earned him a unanimous A. So when Wayne said he often daydreamed about racing he wasn't kidding. I'm glad he was able to turn those day dreams into reality back then and again today, "Ride on Wayne ride on"...

One of my racing heroes. Was lucky enough to see him race often. Coming from close to Brands Hatch I remember the Trans Atlantic meetings well. The difference in style between Wayne and Kevin was marked. Wayne seemed Mr Smooth. Kevin always looked like he was riding a Bronco and probably was. A great era of American racers. Some of the greatest riders ever. The modern GP now I don't even watch. I check the results and that's it. The last GP I went to was Philip Island back in the early 2ooo's when I was marshalling. Not the same anymore. Like F1 car racing. Never missed watching a race. Travelled all over watching them. The great Turbo era. Awesome. Couldn't even tell you who races now. Both bike and car racing has lost the Wow factor. The TT still has it but that is the location and the risk. I am just glad I got to see Wayne's era of racing.

A true competitor will always want to go back and do the "last lap" again in things they didn't win. Even though I am from Texas and love Schwantz, Rainey was my favorite because he always seemed so technical and planning. There was a ton of skill going on in each corner he took, but he was cold and calculating.
