@@jameshisself9324 that's what I said, but a couple of other notes, his home is in Oz,. No one handed him the money, he earnt it through physical hard work, sacrificed his body for the spoils of his craft. Also, in Oz he runs a successful business and he pays his taxes.

Love Mick what a sensational racer he was by far one of the greatest He served an incredible apprenticeship with other legends like Joey Dunlop, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Gardener, Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey and after his awful crash at Assen in 1992 became a bigger legend than almost all of them winning 5 consecutive world championships against some stiff competition. Hats off to you Mick 🇦🇺🏍🏆🇦🇺🏍🏆🇦🇺🏍🏆🇦🇺🏍🏆

Absolutely mate well said , always though how hilarious it would have been to watch him race against Rossi who would have tried his little mind games & Mick would have just laughed at him.

Mick Doohan one of the absolute racing God's of all time. Man of steel. I salute you.

There's teak tough. An then there's Mick Doohan tough. One dominant rider, enjoy listening to Mick.

Mick, man he checked out and the rest never saw him the rest of the race. Saw him crash in a downpour one race, he got back on his bike, got back on the track and was still in 1st!!! Crazy.

Being a proud Australian I grew up with pictures in my bedroom as a kid of Gardner, as an early Adult I had Doohan’s pictures in my office. Both were instrumental in getting me into road racing from small cc categories up until the Australian Superbike Series in the mid/late 90’s when they were 750 cc Japanese 4 cylinders and the 916 Ducati. To think at the time my road bike was a Fireblade well before it became a racing bike. 👍😎🇦🇺

I met Mick at Phillip Island when I was with Rothmans. A very humble bloke who is no fool, well aware of his ability but has none of the cliche personality traits associated with so many GP drivers. Mick is a down to earth, ridiculously talented athlete who set such high goals and pushed himself beyond many setbacks whilst riding Honda's NSR500 which was the pinnacle of 2-stroke GP racing.

110% agree so many madonas these days with young women running around fixing helmets and bowing to ever FKN so called need just like F1 Its becoming a joke.. These so called super stars are no more than spoilt children which if the truth were known that exactly what they are with parents living out their own so called dreams !!!! Moto G.P. is following F1 in this arena If you want true racing then its simple go to the T.T. but sadly even that is now going the same way so my advice to those that want real racing get over there as fast as you can because trust me even the T.T. will either change or at worst be BANNED Due to all these so called do gooders you know the sort I mean lest save the planet and fuck every one up whilst doing so !!!!JESUS PLEASE GIVE ME THE WILL TO CARRY ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mick never talks BS, his comments are always pretty much spot on.

This was the guy I followed. The grit, self belief and drive Mick had was just incredible. Even when the tyres were going off, he'd be spinning it up hanging off the side lap after lap with no electronics to help tame the monster. Awesome guy and a great interview.

I don’t think I missed any of Mick’s races. I picked him for great things after seeing him race and consistently win against the local legends in Australia. He was sliding bikes around corners way before anyone else. He won his early races with raw talent. I hope his legacy continues through his son in car racing.

Mick had a totally different riding style to modern racers like Quartararo, but I tell you what, even on the latest MotoGP machinery he'd still win.

Mick Doohan is so cool. Very honest to his answer, his opinion is always delightful to hear. I hope in the next Goodwood we can see the next strand of Legends in Vale Rossi, Casey, Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez & of course Dani Pedrosa. Shame, Nicky Hayden & Marco Simoncelli should have been included as well. 😞 Anyway, its good to see these Legends especially Wayne Rainey could able to ride again despite everything.

Nice to see Mick looking so well,and it's always nice to hear guys like him reflecting on their career.

My favorite bike racer when I was a young man in the very late 80s and 90s.

I missed the Doohan years as I couldn’t have a bike at the time and didn’t want to torture myself watching GP’S, when I came across it Mick was absolutely dominating a race and his bizarre style made me think ,how can he win like THAT 🤣obviously sad now I missed such a brave, tough one off legend👌🏻

Definitely fond memories of watching a dominant Mick Doohan pulling massive power slides on the final lap before winning his 500cc races. The poor analogue TV reception on SBS didn’t put me off.

Absolutely mate , that’s how I remember Mighty Mick.. pity he never morphed into the early days of Motogp , it would have been hilarious to watch Rossi try his psych out stuff on Doohan , he would have just laughed at him.

16.45 four greats of moto gp,these guys rode BEASTS no electronics just skill and courage.

Such a genuine guy.......fair dinkum as the Aussies would call him. Never give up.....that's the take away from him. For those who were hawk eye....look at his mangled pinkie on his left hand, that's commitment for you.

Absolutely mate , 5 world championships on the trot (nearly 6) all with his right leg so bad they were going to amputate it at the start of those titles , gutsy bloke with a lot of talent.

Mick had an unusual riding style compared to the rest in the way he hung off the bike in corners.. It certainly didn't hinder him🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁. A fantastic world champion..

@@ENLSN77 I think that he understood that getting his bum low and off the bike aided faster cornering but he also wanted to stay on top of the beast to control it. You wouldn't want to hang off a 2 stroke the way they do these days. Most riders rode the 500cc bikes more like a 250cc bike. Doohan was more point and squirt although he could also lay it down in the corner. Remember that his path to 500cc racing was through superbikes, not the traditional GP bikes.

@@ENLSN77 Yes mate he almost had his right leg amputated at the Dutch Assen GP in 1992 at the start of his international career , Incompetent Dutch doctors were going to cut it off , because that was the easy way out (for them) but DR Costa the 500cc racing Doctor & a SWAT team of sorts aided his escape from this whackjob hospital & Dr Costa saved his leg by sewing them both together for several months to aid blood flow , Think that why he seems to squat almost on his left side when hanging off because his right leg seemed to have no strength to hook over the seat , he couldn’t move his right ankle or use the rear brake so his team rigged up a thumb brake of sorts from a jet-ski throttle fitted to his left clip on. Absolutely heroic act to then then go to win 5 World championships against the real fast guys of motorcycle racing , with zero traction control back then & a hair trigger 2 stroke throttle. There’s a great almost unbelievable story about the whole thing on Motorsport Magazine online. Cheers

Those who doubt the greatness of this seemingly average Aussie bloke need to remember, he was leading the championship that day at Assen way back in 1992. He could have been looking back on SEVEN world championships in a row had fate not stepped in to test his determination...

Mick Doohan was a fantastic rider he positioned himself on a bike well. Knee out but classic control no nonsense just get the job done.

i was lucky enough to be there for everyone of his championships, the public didnt get to see how hard core this guy was , wat he did at tests and practice was from another planet,and then on sunday well we all know about that,thank you michael doohan god like statis

Big Stugots , from a bloke racing with 5 world titles after the Doctors at Assen were going to cut off his right leg. Don’t know who the GOAT is but Doohan is up there.

Fearless Mick. Absolute LEGEND!!!

I think Mark is coming back , but at a lower lever, kind of like what happened to Rossi, winning now and then and becoming a top 5 rider like Rossi did. He was great before but I feel he does not need to put himself at risk any longer, a great world champ that should retire. Look at Dovi, he was fantastic and now an also ran.

Thanks Bennetts bikesocial for putting together them interviews with 4 legends, it was great to hear the stories from them. In 30 years time yous will be interviewing Rossi, Stoner, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, them boys had some battles too.

Hi guys, i really love Mick Doohan, I watched his career from start to finish with the accident, such a balls out rider and absolutely no fear, i remember well when his teammate, who i can’t mind his name under took Mick on the last lap on the last corner to win his first race, they were both on Hondas, Mick was livid absolutely going nuts shouting and cussing 🤬 him out, i couldn’t stop laughing 😝 at the scene, although I have to say I’d be livid as well, it was amazing 🤩, Mick was an amazing rider and probably still is. Niiiiiiiiiiice video guys.

That was Alex Criville. He would shadow Mick the whole race and then attempt to pass him on the last turn with a reckless out-braking move. Criville was held in contempt by most fans for this kind of thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if he never returns... I don't think he's thinking that way at the moment, but it's a distinct possibility and honestly I wouldn't blame the man if he did decide he's lost some of his mojo. Great men have hung up the helmet for less.

Honda engineers will never admit that they developed a bad bike. Rather they blame riders for not understanding the bike. But if you look half way through the 2022 season. All Honda riders besides Alex Marquez are injured one way or another. So it must be something wrong with the bike

I thought Mick's advice for his younger self would be go easy at the round at Assen in '92. Not that my opinion counts for anything, but if I were a time traveller that's the advice I'd give him.

Those push-ups Marquez was doing was ridiculous.

Two strokes in the Grand Prix landscape with minimal rider aids needs to return the product has lost so much character without them. We want accessibility as fans and kids and families want racing to be even 10% more realistically in a financial sense otherwise how can the sport continue to grow and an elitist and inaccessible sport is waiting to die especially when it looses some entertainment value which it has.

What advice would you give a Young Mick Doohan ? I'd say keep off a wet white line ! ;)

If he wouldn't have got hurt he would have won 7 in a row.

@@crunchytheclown9694 I think Ago was great too, but I'd rate those other guys just that bit above him. I also left Spencer off that list, and that was hard for me. Both Spencer and Ago are racers I think are absolutely great, and I think they're both way better than Rossi, but not better than Doohan or the four others I' listed above.

Yea mate you’re onto to something, because Rossi is always talked about being the GOAT but if Mick had been beaten the way Stoner & Márquez had beaten Rossi in their head to heads over the years he would have cut his wrists.

hes not so young , Marquez is 30 next year and there are a bunch of younger riders wanting to be world champion , his great days are over.
