I love what Tim’s movies bring out. Especially this one. You basically have three separate characters (Batman, Penguin, Catwoman) who are spawns of what society creates. They all fight each other and labeled “good” and “bad”, but they all originate from the same foundation. I think Tim is always able to show the humanity of the characters

@@jerrodbutali3990 I wouldn't say that about all films, as there are some really unique ones out there, and also superhero films that are able to break a lot of new ground with what superhero films can truly do as movies, such as the MCU, the X-Men films, the Spider-Man films, and the TDK trilogy, both of which prove that comic book adaptations can truly work wonders for cinema, eve despite their flaws, and help to set an example for the future of all later comic book adaptations!

I just love how smooth Keaton is in this scene; from his snarky comment to Alfred, to the way he looks when he steps out of the tube to when he beats the Penguin at his own manipulation game. I also love how Burton shot this with Keaton as Bruce and not as Batman. Kinda reinforces how Batman's true power is his intelligence and the suit is just a necessary accessory.

Actually acknowledging the throwing of vegetables as strange is probably one of the greatest jokes in the movie.

Yeah, the whole aesthetic of the movie was based on the Art-Deco/Beaux look of 1920s New York. The cartoon in the 90's was based on the same style, including the police uniforms. Although, really, the animated series was based on the Tim Burton movies... but still.

Nicholson & DeVito were already in a couple films together. They were in a third film with Jack Black a few years after this one.

The first two Batman movies were great and have both aged pretty well especially the first one. It's gonna be epic seeing Keaton's Batman again and that music,really hope they don't mess it up.

Personally, I think Returns aged better. Batman89 felt like The Joker Show while Returns distributes the storytelling more equally among 4 main characters. Also, the aesthetic of Returns looks cleaner and smoother and more timeless to me somehow. The Prince soundtrack kind of dates Batman89, too, while the more classical music in Returns makes it feel more timeless.

The added sound effect made it seem worse than it probably was.

Penguin takes the same road his parents took, runs into a similar looking couple on the way, and proceeds to dive off the same bridge he was dropped from as a child. This proves he is fulfilling his true destiny as an evil villain of Gotham. Excellent parallel & cinematography!

Michael Keaton and Michael Gough the best live action Batman and Alfred duo.

The imagery of the 2 batman films, never fails to amaze me. Tim Burton, Anton Furst for the first film, and Bo Welch for the second, were a great team.

@@venom74799 True, even then I’m sure a lot of people noticed how dumb it was, but the newer technology is at the time the easier it is to get away with… creative liberties like this meant to look or sound cool without making any technical sense. I’m sure there were more people in the general audience then that didn’t own a CD player yet and only knew “disc goes in, music comes out” than there are today. Just think, in 50-100 more years they’ll look back at the QuAnTuM-everything sci-fi magic used to explain everything in movies now, and then they might say “lmao look how little they expect the audience to understand that”

I love seeing stuff like that from back in the day. Compact disc technology was fairly new and not well known to a lot of people so they saw it more like a vinyl record. I just wanna know what speed advantage the iron maiden route gave Bruce over Alfred -considering he arrived there seconds earlier than Alfred with a wet arm.

It was very funny that Bruce had recorded the Penguin‘s true feelings and exposed them to the citizens of Gotham City,making them throw eggs & tomatoes at him.

“Our prime concern is this ghastly grotesque.” Lot of things going wrong for Batman in this movie. This is where he begins to set things right. Man do I wish Burton/Keaton got the nod for a third film.

I like the part where Bruce Wayne exposes the Penguin for who he truly is.
