Фильм және анимация

A discussion and review of Way of the Dragon (1972) courtesy of the recently released Arrow Video 4K UHD box-set as well as my overall thoughts and recollections on the film.
Is this Bruce Lee's most entertaining or best film? I discuss the prospect of both.

Great retrospective. You give brilliant insight and offer a unique interpretation of the film's ideas and themes. Arrow did a great restoration of Way of the Dragon with the source elements they were given. It looks better than the Criterion Blu-ray!

Way of the dragon is "that" masterpiece I suppose. He did what 7-8 roles? One could talk for literal hours about why it's a masterpiece. It just is so fucking good :D

That book author is an idiot, what he said is pretentious twaddle. I would argue Way of The Dragon was Bruce Lee at his finest. I also had the same issue with the film being cut. Took years before I saw the whole thing uncut. Yes, there is a little 'racism' touched on at the start of the film but it's more a 'fish out of water' style film. I think in some points you're looking into things a bit too much. Good review overall.

Thanks for the detailed comment @MAGICMONKEY52, I typically love David Thomson's writing but I highly disagree with his dismissiveness of Lee. I think it's both; Lee is depicted as an outsider/fish out of water by virtue of his cultural and ethnic difference which he gets the audience to side with. So much to the point where his identity is the norm in opposition to the white Norris who is rendered 'other' by the end. I don't have issue with you saying I'm looking too much into things, but films are worthy of being read and analysed and my channel will be geared towards that.

You seem very focused on racisme... you kind of critisize when the westerners in the movies are racist, but with the chinese guy in the restaurant who doesnt want to practise foreign martial arts, you call it 'cultural identity'. Actually he was just also very racist, by implying the foreign martial arts are not as good the Chinese. I think its very modern America to see racisme everywhere and to put sooooo much focus on it. Its not important, or interesring especially in these movies.

Hi @drain7738 thanks for subscribing! For me personally I'd say yes, given I'm a big Bruce Lee fan having no previous releases of his work. I'm bound to repeat watch the films too. It is pricey, but I don't see it coming down in price in a sale for it will be sold out by then most likely.
