Awesome and finally, the clearest comparison of the E vs G channel plugs.. Been trying to find this explanation forever. Thank you.
Best review of the EV2 ever! Those comparisons are perfectly done too.
wow! great review and instruction video. Just what I needed!! I needed the channels explenations!!
The work you put in to put this together is unbelievable brother, thankyou!👏🏾

Thank you for the in depth review. 🙏
Great info/demo!
Wow! Very thorough!
Wow, finally got a channel with someone who knows what they are talking about. I would have had to go through 3 or 4 KZread channels to get this information. I have Subscribed to your channel and will be sharing this with friends. I enjoy your video and I am always looking for ways to improve my sound. I already have this plugin, I knew it was great in the first five minutes of playing with it. Thanks again for the details of why it's so good of a plugin. 😁👍
great and detailed info
excellent video. thanks!
Hi Bobby, First off, I really love and appreciate the effort you put into the explanation with the science and plotted Frequency Graphs, etc. comparing the Plugins. Seems like the Freq. range and response with the SSL-E is much more accurate than the SSL-EV2. Regarding the filters, rolling off at 80Hz. the SSL-EV2 was off by 50 HZ. That's the starting place generally when rolling off the Low Mudd on a Kick. If you set it at 50Hz. and you're really at 20Hz. you have now assumed you've rolled off the Low end @ 50Hz. But if that's the case, you have now missed the Mudd and you may not be aware of it... If someone were to say, "That's because they modeled the 2 plugins from 2 different SSL Consoles", that could be true, then they should have adjusted the SSL-EV2 controls to match the correct Freq. location when plotted. Unless you're going to say that the SSL Console it was molded after was not accurate around the Freq ranges in question. However, I find that hard to believe that SSL would not be accurate with their Consoles. When using a ProFab3 EQ you can see the waveform of where you're rolling off the Freq's. Seems like you would need to use a Spectrum or Freq analyzer with the SSL-EV2 to accurately dial in the Freq at 50Hz. to a pinpoint. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the SSL plugins. I like the idea of how they work and the warm character that the SSL Plugins can bring to the table. I also like the Speaker Icon which is a nice touch on the SSL-EV2. However, I was not impressed by the Pre-amp section which seems like it does nothing more than add saturation, which you could always add a saturator to the signal chain. I also did not like the fact that the freq range control was not as wide on the SSL-EV2. In some circumstances, you may need to apply the HMF-x3 or the LMF-x3 function to get the range you're looking for (if I understood that correctly). This means you now have to do math on the fly which is just another step to figure out along the way. Also, the EQ Bell was a lot wider on the Brown selection than the Black, and again not accurate on the actual Freq. being selected... I think for me at least the SSL-E wins out over the SSL-EV2 solely because of the accuracy of the Freq you may be working in which I think is probably the most important aspect of an EQ. Using your ear works for a good majority of the time, but certain Freq's, ex. in the range of 50Hz. on a snappy Kick, you may never hear since it's a Low Freq. & Quick Transient sound. Getting as much Mudd out of the Mix as possible is King to getting a "Great Overall Clean Sound" in the end... Keep in mind, that sound is all a personal preference and different people have different tastes. However, the workflow can be either easy or a bit tedious. But if you need to add additional plugins and you need to go back and forth several times making adjustments here and there, then getting from point "A" to point "B" may take longer with the SSL-EV2. Still kind of on the fence, but definitely still leaning toward the SSL-E.... Thx ElectricEddie😎

Really cool video! This plugin is so versatile, so cool! But I still don't know if I can use it like a channel trim. Do you believe that?
One of those EV2 stripes is eating more CPU than all the rest of the project. After one week I got the SSL Essential Bundle on a sale and never looked back at Waves. Nonetheless an interesting video. Thanks!
Good job bro....for some reason im stuck to the SSL G channel
this video just made my mind decide to buy the ev2 :D waves should give u your cut from the purchase :D

The EV2 is the best sounding SSL plugin from Waves so far. Better resolution, less aliasing/more open, and better harmonic content. But god it's so annoying that they make all the frequency points incorrect. I don't care how off the position of the knobs of the consoles are if I boost 600hz I want it to be 600hz not 300hz, if I change to the Brown knobs i wanna hear the different harmonic content and Q value of the band and not double the frequency and change the gain. It's so frustrating, 70hz HPF on the EV2 is like 20hz.
Which daw is that?
Yeah. EV2 is definitely a better purchase versus "E-Channel" or "G-Channel".
The poetry of fluidity is undeniably philisophical in its reinforcement.
lol that moment when you leave the LF boosted and then cut the same freq
The rolloff looks like it might be EQ cramping at the nyquist. What sample rate did you do your tests set?
@RaytownProductions

Probably 48khz or 44. The cramping may be part of the plugin itself. I can double check. Great observation!

@@RaytownProductions Absolutely. Try at 96K. Also that should help get rid of some aliasing when saturation happens.

You're not compensating the volume differences, man :/
This no oversampling and there is a lot of aliasing going on.
@RaytownProductions
Жыл бұрын
Why do you say that?
@user-sd7eb6jq9y
Жыл бұрын
@@RaytownProductions i tested using a sweep tone and had lots of aliasing harmonics. Most people dont care about this, but when you drive some plugins hard as you would in analog, the sound gets crappy and harsh cos of aliasing. Same with many Waves plugins and from other developers too. Youd have to manually oversample them at a higher sampling rate and get the high frequencies over 22khz filtered so they wont bounce back on the Nyquist frequency.
@user-sd7eb6jq9y
Жыл бұрын
@@RaytownProductions But oversampling needs at least double the CPU at 2x. Thats why UAD sounds good to people. They use their DSP for that little extra CPU and all UAD plugins run at 192kHz internally so if youre mixing at 48khz you get great sound. Ive been saying this so many years in the Waves forum. I think when every last person on Earth has all the Waves plugins but not paying WUP as frequently, they will implement oversampling and have everybody pay WUP just for the update. Wait and see.

@@RaytownProductions The high shelf that appears to be non symmetrical (or has a steep high cut) is cos of that. Its called EQ cramping. This goes away if you run the plugin at 96khz or so.
@RaytownProductions
Жыл бұрын
@@user-sd7eb6jq9y yep! I'm very familiar with EQ cramping. Lots of plugins do this either unintentionally or to save on CPU. Thanks for the heads up! I didn't audibly notice any aliasing the way i use it. I'll have to run some chirps through it to see how bad the aliasing really is.
What new features? Ahahahaha
