Wave that hit our house, different view, Beach Blvd, Pacifica, CA 01/05/23
Earlier I posted a video showing the wave that damaged our house. That view was from the roof and showed as it was going over the wall. Now that my networking gear and NVR are back online I was able to get the footage from our front window.

I remember a wild and wooly stormy Christmas Eve in Half Moon Bay. Take care.
😲Gasp! Scary! I live in Torrance and went down to the beach for my daily walk and was stunned at how thrashed it was. Extreme erosion, bike path under a half foot of sand, a lifeguard tower ramp that had drifted away from the tower, etc. Have never seen it like that!

I don't live in Pacifica anymore, but I grew up there and this kind of flooding happened just about every winter. I'm sorry that this person's house and cars were damaged, but I don't see it as surprising. I remember the houses down on Beach having sandbags in front of them all winter. Sometimes the flooding would go back as far as Palmetto or even Francisco (especially down by the golf course). Part of the price of that priceless view...

@@scottclements245 You're either referring to pre-sea-wall or you're misrepresenting things. I've lived here for 20 years in this spot and this is the first time a wave has ever reached my house. Sure, the waves splash up and over the wall, especially on the north side of the pier, but the last time a wave made it to this house (according to the previous resident and other neighbors) was in 1982 before the sea wall. So to imply that this should have been expected when it *never* happened before (meaning that a wave has never done this since the sea wall was put in) .... well .... I beg to differ.
hope those people running were fast enough. sorry about the damage.
I wonder what happened to 2 people who casually walking? I feel for you. Stay safe.

I have another video from a different angle that shows them. They saw the wave just in time and started running. They got wet but were OK.
Wos stay safe my bro, have a blessed week! 💚✨
Hello from Madison Wisconsin 🥃💯
Wow!
Thank you for sharing. What a terrible experience ~ I hope your car is ok? I was watching that night when everything went down. I so enjoy watching so relaxing Wishing you & your family a wonderful New Year !
The power of the sea is terrifying. I hope you are safe and sound. It reminds me of a heavy storm that hit Tenerife North, in Mesa del Mar. The waves destroyed the balconies from the third floor of a building. It was like a Tsunami. Take care and thanks for the videos.
helo you cảnh đẹp hi😊😊😊
Wow
The Horror, The Horror,,,,,
Wow!! Ive always wanted to live by the Ocean. My guy says this happens and I didnt believe it. Well........still want my house by the Ocean
Pacifica has become the pacific.
I'm sorry your home was damaged!
I used to vacation in La Jolla and there was a great beachfront hotel. Sitting in the dining room you could see the ocean right there. Years later it got wrecked by the waves ! I was pretty shocked. It was a great place sad to see it get ruined. And it was ruined.
That was scary stuff...The way it just pushed your car...Take care you're in my prayers 🙏🙏
wow
Hope you are ok David
wow... ive been on that strip of walkway before, been splashed a few times, but nothing like that..

So, gnarly.
So sorry! Hope you are okay🥹
The real bummer is the 15 second ad, for a 35 second video.
@ChamberlinNature

That is a bummer, especially since I don’t monetize any of my videos, so I don’t get anything in return for any ads google decides to show. :-(
Omg
I hope that you didn't experience any damage. I lived on Miramar Beach in the 1980's with about 15 feet of cliff, a concrete bridge support, and rip-wrap protecting us from the water. Things got rough, but never like that. I know that cliff area has had problems with erosion. Best wishes.
Wow I didn’t realize it was that high by the time it reached your yard, has that happened before or is this a new thing to have to deal with all that water?
Crikey! 😮
Water is the one element that scares me. If I was upstairs of your place I would’ve been so frightened. Did it cause a lot of damage inside?
That might be the first wave to hit your house… it won’t be the last one. I feel for you.
I hope the water damage is not too bad, did your cars get damaged as well ? In all the years here I have not seen it this bad! Hang in there David!
Are you in the old Thomas house with the Yoga room? I grew up at the other end on Elder Ln when the condos didnt exist and the beach had houses on it..all your videos and photos are excellent.

Yes, that’s the house! The Yoga room is now our master bedroom, and unfortunately one of the rooms that was flooded. Thank you for the compliments on the videos and photos.
Wow. We taking a beating down here in Santa Cruz too. Hope all is well.
This isn’t typical?

Do you have or is there something in your home insurance that covers "ocean damage"?
Yikes 😬
In response to "Why people want to live that close to the ocean . . ." Well, the pros are many. Furthermore: Ordinarily, these homes are not as close to the ocean as they might seem. There is a large beach, then the promenade and small picnic area (seen in the foreground - currently covered with sand) between the ocean and the homes. NORMALLY, the ocean is hundreds of feet away and the waves are nowhere near this size - so there is no imminent threat from the ocean, even during big storms. The waves do not come up to, much less over, the sea wall. Waves like this have not been seen before. This is an unexpected anomaly. Unexpected anomalies can't be anticipated, but they can happen to anyone, anywhere. Many people who live nowhere near the ocean, or even a river or creek, have lost their homes, businesses, and some even their lives, in this mess of a storm. We could question why anyone would want to live in Tornado Alley (midewst/south) or where hurricanes or blizzards happen - which are much more common than the storm we are experiencing. Rather, let's allow everyone a little grace, send out positive thoughts to everyone
Oy, so sorry car and water damage. Things got nervy on our street in West Linda Mar: flooding/sewer overflow, live cables down, trees and our fence line. The high winds have been esp. nervy.
A higher view of the same wave from the house 👉🏻. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYmtj5qxaLOdgKg.html

You couldn't pay me enough to live near the ocean.
👀
Hope there's not too much damage! How about your vehicles? So many cars have been ruined by floods.
You new restoration I recommend this company the restoration clean up company inc
Do you hate living there?
Lived in Pacifica for 30 years up on Farralon. Never saw waves that large come that far inshore.

Why would people want to live so close to the ocean . . . Well, the pros are many, however . . . Ordinarily, these homes are not particularly close to the ocean. There is a large beach, then the promenade and small picnic area (seen in the foreground - currently covered with sand) between the ocean and the homes. NORMALLY, the ocean is hundreds of feet away and the waves are nowhere near the size of the monster waves seen in this video, even during big storms. Waves like this have not been seen before. These waves are due to a combination of king tides and atmospheric rivers and a bomb cyclone that are pummelling the west coast. This is an anomalous situation that could not be anticipated and was not expected. In this series of monster storms, people have lost their homes and businesses, communities have lost millions of dollars, the state has sustained billions of dollars in damage, and a number of people have lost their lives - just as is happening in other communities around the country and around the world. We could ask why people choose to live in Tornado Alley (midwest/south), or in areas that are prone to hurricanes or blizzards, where these disasters CAN be anticipated. People make their own choices for myriad reasons. Please, let's offer up some understanding and grace for the choices people make and find ways to hold them up when things get rough.
Your brown car didn't fair well
please be so careful !!!!
Hey that's the price you pay for beachfront property. That's why insurance is higher because there is a higher risk. How I too would love to wake up to a beautiful oceanfront view. Know that you had more sunny days than floods and celebrate. 🥳
Why people want to live that close to the ocean makes no sense. Just a big headache and $$$$ is all it is

When you live this close to the ocean, you accept the risks and just deal with the consequences.
