So you joined all the cbu with thinset and mesh, and also banded in some areas. I asked in another thread video, but you did not find build up an issue using the fabric on top of the mesh? I'm contemplating building a shower in the same manner.

Thanks for the question, I found no issue with build-up using the methods I employed. The large format tiles I used require a 1/2" x 1/2" trowel, which hides any imperfections anyway. But you could use smaller tiles if you choose. Good luck with your project.
