I think it's the size of them that makes it less scary to watch cause you know they're supposed to be bigger then the average spider. I think it's also the way they look, I know when I think of a spider a black widow automatically comes to mind not nessarly a tarantula. And maybe its the fact that more people have tarantulas as pets then other species of spiders.

The size could play a part, other species the size of house spiders are know to be much more quick, and zippy. There especially hard to find if you look away and by the time you turn back they’ve hid somewhere. The fact that smaller spiders reminds you of black widow is a sign that your aware of smaller species have more potent venom than their cousins, T’s. Its a common instinct.

I find myself adopting similar tones and language when trying to reason with my young son. "Come on, I'm just going to fill your water bottle, why are getting so annoyed? Man..." "Lord have Mercy" is also starting to work it's way into my vocabulary..
