I've been taking wc classes and practicing on my own for over 2 years (off and on) and STILL struggle with it. This video, I found so helpful. I think it's very important to learn the foundations of putting down wc onto paper and you do that excellently here, so thank you. So important to practice the basics over and over again and over and over again.
Thank you for your encouraging comments. I would like to find time to produce more videos like this. If only there were more hours in the day!

This was very helpfull! especially the part about not fiddling with an area you've just colored. As it DOES look so much worse afterwards. Thank you

I love it - precise and concise! Bravo
Appreciate your type of instructions, great demo.
Hi! I bought a nice book of yours, and, it's stunningly beautiful! I'm at awe, how wonderfully they're watercoloured! I even showed it to my boyfriend, and he was also amazed of the workmanship!
Thank you Julia! I am drooling over that Ivy leaf you painted!
This is the most useful video on watercolor that I have found!! I love that these techniques can be applied for so many things other than botanical watercolor. Thank you!!
OH MY GOSH! You are a phenomenal watercolor teacher. I love all of your tips. Thank you!!
I am so glad I have found your channel. You demonstrate everything so clearly and explain it all so anyone can understand how to do things. I look forward to going through all your other videos. Thanks.
Stumbled upon this video. So very helpful, especially the tips about waiting till there is sheen on the wet area. I tend to wet the paper too much and immediately apply the paint which makes it difficult to manage the flow of paint. I thought wet on wet was the essence of watercolor painting but now it’s more clear to me that other techniques are important to supplement and complement a wet on wet base. Maybe that’s why I end up with muddiness. Thank you so much!
These are some of the most useful techniques I’ve come across with. I’m new to watercolor and your tutorials are easy to follow especially beginners such as myself. So thrilled I found your channel! Please keep doing what your doing. ❤️
Excellent video! Your zoom and lighting is perfect along with your explanations and demo. Esp showing the amount of water in your paint palette. Very useful.
This was extremely soothing. Thank you

Very good. It is easy to intuitively feel what you are doing with degrees of wetness. More videos please.
This is such good explanation! Thank you so much!!!!
Fantastic tutorial very impressive thank you 😊 🇦🇺
Thank you for this! Really helpful!
Thanks for sharing. I always use wet into wet. I just love seeing the paint flow. Even for my children and baby portraits. Then I use damp brush and finish with a little dry brush. I love seeing others paint.
Thank you - about to start!
Very practical information for someone like me who needs desperately to make a scientific illustration project in a design class! I now feel maybe I can approach the project with less fear.
I am new to watercolor. Thank you for the information.
Thank you Ms.Trickey.
And thank you for a delightful video!
OMG! What a talent 😊 you inspired me

Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. May I ask, what sort of pencil do you use? HB, H or ? Thank you. :)
Nice Work ~~!
Lovely. Very instuctive.
Thank you.
Thank you for the useful tips
A beginner’s elementary question: can someone explains what she meant by “don’t fiddle with dry paint” please? Drying paint on the paper or drying paint in the palette? Thank you so much for your kind advice! 🙏
What brush do you use xx
So informative thanks 🤗
Very informative and interesting video! It was very helpful, but I did struggle a bit with how loud the intro and outro are.
Thank you! Good video
Great video

I am constantly asked this question! It is a great brush in the video but sadly no longer available. Look for a sable brush about size 4 with a good point. Then you can use the same brush for washes and fine detail. x

Never fiddle with drying paint... i think that's just what almost all new to watercoloring are tempted to do. 😁

This is a really good video and tutorial for a beginner watercolourist and botanical art enthusiast like me, thank-you. May I ask what brushes you use? I'm struggling to find a brush that suits me.

Hi. The brush I use in the video is no longer available. However i would recommend buying the best your can afford. Windsor and Newton Series 7 are a top quality brand. Or search for Billy Showell's brushes. Otherwise look for good sable brushes that come to a good point.

@@JuliaTrickeyART I've read about both of those! I don't want something too expensive as I'm just starting out and I don't plan to get serious (like professional/career level) with watercolour. But thank-you for your recommendation, I will look into those!

@@JuliaTrickeyART Hi. I loved your video. And was wondering what brush you were using too. Which one do you think it's better, windsor and newton or da Vinci for brushes?

Are botanicals done with any kind of media? How about watercolored pencils?
@JuliaTrickeyART

Bianca Desilets .I work mostly in watercolour but increasingly botanical artists are using coloured pencil. Ann Swan and Susan Christopher-Coulson are amongst the best known UK artists in this respect.
Thank you very much for the video! It's very interesting and important! 🇺🇦

Which watercolour paper are you using? Your paper looks flat. Watercolour affects are different according which type of watercolour paper you use. I find this even when using expensive way

I generally use 140lb Arches HP paper which I will stretch on a drawing board to deal with the buckling issue. I think in the video I had some sheets of heavier weight paper (Fabiano Artistico HP 300lb) but don't use this paper any more as they changed their 'recipe' and I don't like the newer surface. Arches also do a heavier paper but I don't like this either!
