What colors are you using , are they transparent?

Emily, for this painting, I used an Arches Cold Press 140lb.
As u said removing color after coloring the space teardown the paper

What is this technique called? Layering in composition negative painting a grisaille effect... ? I love watching Stephen quilter paintbhis landscapes using a simulate technique...is there any how to books ..what do I look for to learn ..are there important steps I can take using a formula to go by?
