Hi everyone!
In this tutorial I am painting a portrait in an easy and loose style. I wanted to make it a very easy and approachable subject for those who are interested in learning how to start a portrait, what are the main steps and what areas to focus on. Hope you enjoy it!
As always I’m using:
100% Cotton watercolor paper
Daniel Smith paints (color names are listed in the video)
Brushes:
• 8mm squirrel mop
• 5mm squirrel mop
• #4 and #6 Art Spectrum Sablinsky
Have fun painting!

Amazing. I'm not sure I could do that. The amount of times going back in to blend or soften what you've laid down, so much patience!

Thank you Adam! I'm sure you can! It was actually very quickly done (~30min). In terms of softening edges, I usually keep a separate soft damp brush and paper towel handy...in general when I pain I hold a few brush in my left hand, so instead of rinsing all the paint off and mixing again, I just changed the brush. Hope this helps!

Thank you Isabel! It was one of my first videos on KZread, I was under impression that slower videos are boring 🤣🤷 I usually only double the speed in my recent videos.
That’s my problem I over do it from the get go because I have no patience. 😢 how do I develop patience?

Oh, im very impatient my self! I remember I had a list of 5 things always remind me what "not to do". The outdoors are the worst, it always pushes you to work even faster, but at the same time skip all the details...so good as well! I think bigger brushes and remember not to think about objects I paint, but shapes and tones were my biggest helpers (for instance: if I didn't think it's a house, I didnt need to paint every brick).
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌✌✌✌✌✌✌

Please make another video that goes much slower with more explanation. You skipped extremely quickly over colour mixing and how you found the highlights. Or don’t title your video an Easy How To. This was an Intermediate exercise for sure.
