Some of these comments are crazy to think that Louis is this naive. Clearly you have to put on a bit of a show. You don't enter (or leave for that matter) if you are looking to expose the massive flawed side of the country.

It's a ghost city isn't it? Only specially privileged citizens are allowed to even visit Pyongyang. They have hotels for 1000+ people and only like 10 rooms are being used, it's extravagant but unused, like the set for a movie after the last day of shooting, basically, only a thousand times bigger.

They join the military since they get better/more food than doing a "normal" job. I feel sorry for the farmers there, their land is infertile pretty much they must work so hard to get the tiniest thing. Alot of food is actually brought in by the UN but the NK public obviously aren't told about that.... Alot of people are actually living way far away from the cities, only the "rich" are allowed to live there.

I think Louis is a bit uneducated about what North Korea is really like.. I feel this way because he is saying how great of a place it is. when in reality probably less than 100 km aways there is a work camp where people are literally being worked to their death for very very small crimes or because they have done something that would be completely normal in every other part of the world. I am not expecting him to say it in the vlog while in NK but I would expect him to maybe put in some sort of disclaimer to let people know the reality of it. A lot of North Korean people put their lives at risk to try and escape, if they are caught they are shot on the spot. I just think it is irresponsible the way he is portraying it. and I understand the regular people of NK are just like us. But the government isn't doing good things.. they are making propaganda. The people of NK are essentially hostages of the North Korean government.

Well, considering he's actually in North Korea, and not some place else, like stated last episode they probably have a recording device noting whatever he says within the hotel rooms. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure it would be a huge risk (as in possibly going to jail in North Korea) if he is found talking bad about the country whilst still in the country. The guides that take them on a tour, make sure that nothing bad is said, they will always be monitored by North Koreans, and in the next vlog gov't officials will most likely be there to filter and monitor whatever is discussed between the tourist and the North Korea kids in school. So, yes these vlogs will most definitely focus on positives, but I'm pretty sure everyone educated(highschool educated and up) will most likely know that North Korea isn't a normal country and that it's capital Pyeongyang is a way to cover up all the negatives like as you stated about the concentration camps. Also, I agree with your last statement, the vid was freaking cool.

The church you visited in Pyongyang is called the Chilgol Church. It is one of two protestant churches in all of North Korea. Religion is banned in the country and all citizens who engage in Christianity are prosecuted by the totalitarian government. The church you visited is solely for use by visitors, no North Koreans worship there. Most defectors have actually said that they did not even know what the building was. It is simply a courtesy that they provide with the additional goal of giving you the feeling that they are less isolated than you thought.
