Water Cooling Guide Part 4 - Maintenance and Upgrades for your Liquid Cooled System NCIX Tech Tips
Ғылым және технология
The ultimate water cooled machine that was built on Tech Tips was pretty cool, but Intel released a new Extreme Edition processor shortly after it was finished!
In order to address that, Linus shows in the most complete way possible (much fast forwarding involved) how to drain, upgrade, and then re-fill your water cooling setup.

blowing on a tube, that's one thing u can rest assure this guy is fond of :DD
love the music linus
I like the sped-up style of showing what you're doing, rather then cutting away and coming back after things are done. Keep up the good work!
I noticed a few bubbles in the pipes, is that a problem or does it depend on your temps?
Linus, the human pump =) LOL
That music, CAN YOU NOT??

+LinosTekTipz I had to mute it each time it came on. Actually, I skipped forward a little too. If a segment isn't good enough for the show, just cut it. I'm glad the new LTT makes better production decisions than this.

I know you commented this five years ago, but stfu.
I think it still looks FANTASTIC!!!
great series, totally want a water-cooled rig now
I saw a water bubble!
i would never use gigabyte only asus boards

That's funny why is asus #1 then? Especially the rog boards. Oh that's right cause they are the best just alot of people can't afford them...

ima have to sign that. I once made the mistake of using gigabyte. never again. they had a ram error straight out the factory. i lost 100 bucks. had asus boards all my gaming life and wasnt disappointed once.

As a mechanic, I noticed right away. He's using a snap-on ratchet screwdriver the same as mine. Good show!
Nice vid'!! Really helped us!

Stop using that god damn song for the love of god
Wow now part 4 ? OMG EPIC
Even though this rig is a couple years old, I really like to see a green and black color scheme. After the G1 Gaming series gave into peer pressure and went Red, I was pretty appalled. So Glad I have the Sniper 5. Thumbs up for green!!

+SwaggerBoyNL1234 green and black is ugly to me. green and white is fine. I don't care what color red blends with, it blends fine
Never this music again plz..............................
sweet job Linus and thanks for the video
Happy Easter LINUS !!!
The sound man had fun!
linus the real mvp thanks for this series ltt
Yea I found out an hour ago from a 2 hour pc building video. It makes sense now, thank you.
I love the Benny Hill "Yakety Sax" theme for the disassembling process :D
Im probably never going to water cool my pc, but I'm still watching this!!
thats a great help man thanks for the reply
Thanks man you've helped me alot! :D
We shot this way back right after we did part 3. 680 wasn't out yet.
Great tutorials, thanks! :D
Black and lime green. Epic combination.
I was thinking of drinking the water coolant, really glad i saw this video first.
Thanks Linus For All Your HardWork...:)
that's a very nice job you have! wish i could be where your at!
So much for the all-green layout.
I'm an avid water cooler. Two 590's generate a shitload of heat, if you can dissipate any of it before going to the hottest part of the loop (the cpu) you should. I have temperature sensors all over my rig and I have done tests. It does make a difference.
this particular silverstone case has the pci slots facing upwards for heat dissipation, its just like a regular case, but instead of plugging your monitor to the back, you plug it to the top and cover it with the plastic cover the case comes with.
He's such a nerd, I love it. Keep up the videos. Some of the most informative on you tube.
What you can also do when mounting/planning your watercooling loop is putting a drain system on teh lowest part of your loop (in my case, my reservoir/pump combo is the lowest, so I took a port and put a valve on it, with a tube running at the back to drain my system. I did the same on the top for refilling it!
It's impossible to get tired of good old Yakkety Sax.
I need this NOW!
Linus, everything you touch is married to perfection. You are truly a Supreme Tech Expert! Thank your Mama & Daddy for me!
Well you have convinced me that when I go water cooled I will spend the money on a drain.
this made my night! Was about to go to bed :D
nice touch with the benny hill music, thumbs up
Linus has improved a lot I mean A LOT!
Awesome job. From the processor to memory and directly to graphics? Imo it could be processor to memory and to another cooling and then video card.
Linus is amazing when it comes to system building
nice guide :)
sooo refreshing ,good ole linus without any blatant advertising
Gotta love Linus working to Benny Hill. So hilariously great.
How often do you change the coolant? I use the koolance quick disconnects on the CPU and rad for quick and easy removal. I am using the mcp 655 pump it gives good flow without restriction. Great video Linus.
Have you seen his 2007 before NCIX? He got really good at presentation and distributing information.
Well done !!
That's THE soundtrack right there!
linus. were all jelly of ur mad skillz and expensive toys.
It's a TJ011 (silverstone) the motherboard is rotated 90* upward. So everything is facing/and connections come through from the top.
I can't too atm but its always cool to see sumthin cool and high end : )
Loved the music
Was so what I was thinking!!!
love the use of the Benny hill theme
The Motherboard tray is removable in the TJ11, but thanks for showing us the hard way to mount a motherboard
these vids own, very informative :>
I understand wanting to reuse the tubing you already had, but can you tell me if I'm right... The coolant is pumped from the res into gfx2, to gfx1, to mem1, to processor, to 120 rad, to mem2, to big rad, and back to the res. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be better to go straight from the gfx cards to the 120 rad, and then to the processor (memory could go anywhere since its essentially for show anyway) and finally to the big rad? Or does the temp even vary that much throughout?
Interesting song choice you made there :D
Great Video.s but I would of installed the barbs BEFORE putting the blocks on the motherboard, it can put strain on the fittings when you tighten them. would liike to know where the video outputs are seeing as the board is 90 deg different from other cases, how does that work ?? does everything poke outa the top??
That must be ballin'
the intro music just makes me jam and make faces in front of the monitor every time! :P
Not looking forward to draining my loop next week. I put in a drain port but it's not in the best location for draining. I can hopefully use it to drain enough of one side so that I can start removing fittings and then drain as I go. I'll be swapping out my distilled water for Mayhem's pastel Coolant, adding a sexy flow indicator, and rerouting my loop for better overall looks. Might also be swapping out my Alphacool XP3 Light CPU block for an EK Supremacy EVO but I'm still undecided on that. Probably not because the few degrees Celsius I could POTENTIALLY save isn't worth the extra $120 I'd have to spend.
Oh man, that blue power light contrasting the green insides was making me go blind and cry in a corner! I am going to have nightmares about that!
The Benny Hill theme was funny the first time, kinda like "Heheh" the second time, and the rest of times I was like "Are you fucking kidding me".
LOVE LOVE The Benny Hill music! really top notch!im still laughing.
Crazy shit! :) Beautiful build! :)
Does the motherboard have to be a certain size for a certain case (for a pc)
that is one badass background song!
I was wondering whether he would release this video or not since I kept thinking on how to do any upgrades or maintenance in a liquid cooled system
Where do you get all the water cooling supplies? ive been trying to find a website where i can buy all the parts i need in one place
that motherboard would look great in the cougar evolution case with the black and orange theme
Linus, you got the best job in the world :) (Atleast for me...) I'm only 14, but I build my first computer in April, for $2000
what is the pc case?
To drain, I like to get a res with 3 outlets, put a piece of tubing on the third outlet with a plug, then when you're ready to drain it, pull the tubing to where it's out over a container, and then pull the plug off. That way you can just drain it all out
would it hurt to add UV bits in the water so when they flow rond it looks kinda cool,or will that fcuk it up?,sorry im a noob at water cooling
I've had a h55 for a while. Do you need to clean this thing? I've had mine for a while and haven't touched it yet.
That case has the IO at the top and a separate cover for it so you can route cables to the back.
Hey linus, what happens to the machines that you build like this one go? Does NCIX sell it or do they use it as a editing pc??
ok dude tnx for the info another question where can i buy this coolants?
"Don't drink water cooling fluid, it's bad for you" - laughed my ass off.
The music was awesome
Amazing voice in blowing water
Which is more efficient for a fan on a radiator. Pushing the air through it or pulling?
Do you recommend using PrimoChill rigid acrylic tubing?
Were are you getting the mushkin copperheads from Linus discotinued arnt they plus why not go with a g1 assasin 2?
The impression I get is I can swap my MB and the system will work? I was looking to upgrade to exactly what you shown. :) Please confirm, a re-install of the OS is not needed after the upgrade.
Linus, why you did not change the tube & light colour so it would match the motherboard colour scheme?
what a pleasant surprise
Yes he did. Gold is the best material to build heat exchangers, because is a very good heat conductor, but it costs about 32'320€ per kg. That's why also those heat exchangers are made in a limited edition. (Capt. Obvious mode off)
How do you connect a monitor to this system? Your cards are not touching the back and I don't see a PCI bracket on it. Does it run the video out the back of the motherboard?
ok tnx again for the info
omfg the music cracked me up so much
U mean which components u switch? I meant simply everything, is there any part u need to reinstall windows after changing. Well of course u have to reinstall it if u change the harddrive or upgrade to something that doesn't support your windows version, but what about the rest?
Congrats on 1 miilion subs!!!
im in the process of changing from console to pc for the exact same reason, im buying the pc next week:)
