Water Cooling Guide Part 4 - Maintenance and Upgrades for your Liquid Cooled System NCIX Tech Tips

Ғылым және технология

The ultimate water cooled machine that was built on Tech Tips was pretty cool, but Intel released a new Extreme Edition processor shortly after it was finished!
In order to address that, Linus shows in the most complete way possible (much fast forwarding involved) how to drain, upgrade, and then re-fill your water cooling setup.

    +LinosTekTipz I had to mute it each time it came on. Actually, I skipped forward a little too. If a segment isn't good enough for the show, just cut it. I'm glad the new LTT makes better production decisions than this.

    I'm an avid water cooler. Two 590's generate a shitload of heat, if you can dissipate any of it before going to the hottest part of the loop (the cpu) you should. I have temperature sensors all over my rig and I have done tests. It does make a difference.

  • @Rio356
    @Rio35611 жыл бұрын

    this particular silverstone case has the pci slots facing upwards for heat dissipation, its just like a regular case, but instead of plugging your monitor to the back, you plug it to the top and cover it with the plastic cover the case comes with.

    What you can also do when mounting/planning your watercooling loop is putting a drain system on teh lowest part of your loop (in my case, my reservoir/pump combo is the lowest, so I took a port and put a valve on it, with a tube running at the back to drain my system. I did the same on the top for refilling it!

    I understand wanting to reuse the tubing you already had, but can you tell me if I'm right... The coolant is pumped from the res into gfx2, to gfx1, to mem1, to processor, to 120 rad, to mem2, to big rad, and back to the res. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be better to go straight from the gfx cards to the 120 rad, and then to the processor (memory could go anywhere since its essentially for show anyway) and finally to the big rad? Or does the temp even vary that much throughout?

    Great Video.s but I would of installed the barbs BEFORE putting the blocks on the motherboard, it can put strain on the fittings when you tighten them. would liike to know where the video outputs are seeing as the board is 90 deg different from other cases, how does that work ?? does everything poke outa the top??

    Not looking forward to draining my loop next week. I put in a drain port but it's not in the best location for draining. I can hopefully use it to drain enough of one side so that I can start removing fittings and then drain as I go. I'll be swapping out my distilled water for Mayhem's pastel Coolant, adding a sexy flow indicator, and rerouting my loop for better overall looks. Might also be swapping out my Alphacool XP3 Light CPU block for an EK Supremacy EVO but I'm still undecided on that. Probably not because the few degrees Celsius I could POTENTIALLY save isn't worth the extra $120 I'd have to spend.

    To drain, I like to get a res with 3 outlets, put a piece of tubing on the third outlet with a plug, then when you're ready to drain it, pull the tubing to where it's out over a container, and then pull the plug off. That way you can just drain it all out
