Water Changes *EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW*

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In today's video we talk about everything you need to know about Water Changes. We discuss the How, When, Why, and more in this educational video to help new people starting in the hobby.
On all of my tanks i do water changes every 1-2 weeks. We do water changes to lower nitrates, lower hormones in the water, cleaning the substrate, vacuuming poop and for many other reasons including getting crystal clear water.
We show you a step by step process of how we do our water changes, as well as cover how often to do them an how much water you need to be changing. Finally, we discuss how doing more frequent water changes can benefit your tank and fish!

Great video. I would encourage anybody that's new to learn to test their water religiously. Get comfortable measuring actual data about your water. Get a master test kit and a gh and kh test kit as well. Test your tap water. There are too many variables to put a timeline on how often to change water. Weekly is a good place to start but it may be more often, or way less depending on plant biomass, what kind of fish and how big they are, how much and often you are feeding, etc. A python is definitely a game changer. Anything that makes maintenance easier will encourage people to change water more often. As long as you are temperature matching and de chlorinating, you generally can't change too much or too often. But testing is the only way to tell. Plus you learn more about the nitrogen cycle as you go. I would also recommend people to "fishless cycle" their first tank. You learn a lot about how to test and the nitrogen cycle that way too.

I swear one day I'll pick up a python kit (or something similar) looks like a dream compared to doing 25-50% water changes weekly with the bucket method lol love your content as always!

The bucket method stopped when we got this 120 gallon tank. Imagine taking 15 buckets filled to the brim to empty and 15 more to fill OMG. Appreciate you watching, have a great day!

@@southfloridaafricancichlid6423 im sending this video as I have many times to a friend who does one water a year. Tortures his fish. He's older and doesn't believe in water changes. No video or amount of pleading even from his own son will change him. Its amazing how his fish adapt but they suffer tremendously.

Your cichlid tank looks great! Your information is great. I, also, live in South Florida. My fish store is telling me to invest in an RO system for my water changes. I usually change about 50% weekly. (Have done this for years.) They insist that the change is far too much and I need to use remineralized RO water as our water in Florida is so bad with the chlorine and chloramines. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks so much. I do not want to harm my fish (two tanks--75 g South American and a 125 g clown loach tank). Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't you want to temperature match your refill water? As well as pH and hardness? Aren't these Malawi? I don't know how you keep them so happy without enough rock to have them hide. 🤔

I have a 65 gallon right now I only have one big jewel and 4 african Cichlids, however I just had an outbreak of babies and I see like 14 different size. There lots of places to hide, so they are surviving Mr Jewels leave them alone. How offen to change 50% of water every 2 weeks 25%?
