NIMBOCHROMIS VENUSTUS - SPECIES PROFILE

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In today's video we take an in-depth look at the NIMBOCHROMIS VENUSTUS Hap from Lake Malawi and share our Species Profile.
The Venustus is a Hap found in Lake Malawi, Africa. It usually grows upto 10 inches, although some specimens about 12" have been seen. It is commonly referred to as the giraffe cichlid because of its black and yellow pattern. This pattern can fade in and out, and when the fish is lit up his sides become all yellow, and fins turn black.
Males have a blue face, and have mainly yellow and black bodies with some accents of white, while females are more dull with a yellow tint and the dark markings. Males may also develop a full yellow blaze, extending from their mouth to the start of the dorsal fin.

    You need to get a sponsor to donate a really big aquarium- 1,000 gallons or more. Or,find a used one and maybe a tax write off as per your business. Only a few mega Mbuna tanks on youtube..and I don't know why since the Lake Malawi videos should be inspirational to be tank owners. Crystal clear waters and large boulders. Sounds good!

    Hey man great video. I was wondering if you can touch on breeding African cichlids again. I am wondering roughly how long in a 40 gallon grow out tank it will tank? I also would like some more information on male to female ratios for breeding. And also what size the females/males will be able to breed. Also how many 2 inch fry can be in a 40(it’s my grow out tank) thank you for the help and have a good day. p.S another video on this would also be very helpful. Thanks!

    Yes they can get pretty big, not only in length but overall mass lol. The pink peacock with a couple of blotches is a dragonblood OB. I'm guessing that's the one you were referring to.

    They all eat a high quality cichlid pellet, northfin cichlid formula or new life spectrum. It contains a good mix of protein and veggies, if you want to feed the mbuna a treat they love algae wafers and veggie pellets

    South Florida African Cichlids oh ok! So the cichlid version works for the mbuna as well?! I was thinking I had to get the veggie version. But just teasing them with the algae wafers is enough to get them the veggies they need? Thanks for the reply!

  • @southfloridaafricancichlid6423

    @southfloridaafricancichlid6423

    Yea, the pellet is an all in one for all types of cichlids. With mbuna you must be a little careful of not overfeeding food with high protein because of bloat. If you really want to, you can use veggie pellet for mbuna and regular cichlid pellet for the other cichlids. I have done this in the past and the mbuna would wait for the veggie pellets, they prefer them. Another thing you can do is leave algae on the back and side glass, as well as rocks and they will graze on it.

    @@southfloridaafricancichlid6423 Ah great tips! Yeah I'm using Ocean Nutrition Cichlid veggie pellets. All the fish go nuts for it. But I then mix it up with regular cichlid pellets and flake food. I have to much of a mix in m tank! haha! Mbuna, couple jempseys, couple firemouths, a parrot, couple convicts, some black skirt tetras, giant danios, couple corys, a syndontis cat. Silly mix I know...but I'm transition to an Mbuna tank as I go! I just fell in love with them! Once the SA's get to large I'l adopt them out. Right now everyone is under 3" and happy. Guess we'll see what happens!
