I was thinking something like, I dunno maybe... 'Rorschach's journal was found after the long long peace'. Maybe the journal was found when everyone forget why they're even making a war. So that, his journal didn't really triggered a new war, because it happened long time ago. They probably just put it as a missing history that has been discovered. You know... that kind of epilogue - I'm sorry, English isn't my first language-

I'm agree to that also... but in the end, it has to be revealed... but not at that time... maybe some time later. My country had ever been in this kind of situation (the only difference is the methods and reason). It was kept secret in order to maintain the peace. As the time goes on, people started to show the secret behind the massacre that happened in my country. It left a scar on our heart but we should take it... because it's a part of our job and right to accept the bad and the good part in our history. No sugar coating. OMG - it's out of topic - I'm sorry again

I'm from Indonesia, it's about G 30 S PKI (Indonesian Communist Party) FYI, Our nation is not communist... it's long story, it happened long time ago, and just say, shit happened... everyone went crazy, they thought the Communist party was the cause of the dead of the important people in Indonesia. So they killed the member of Communist from all direction of Indonesia. But actually, the cause of the death of important people wasn't really their fault, but government decided kept it as a secret. After long time, the truth's finally been discovered (though it's not publicly told). Some people denied it, but I don't. I accept it, after all nation is a human too... every human has dark secret, no?

Look at the doomsday clock comic when the truth have been revealed again. They nuke each other once they knew there are no more alien threats. "Never compromise, not even in the face of Armageddon", yeah you can say that again when due to your selfish ideals you doomed billions of innocents death and possibly centuries in terms of degression in society all just because of your petty sense of justice.

Diego Kaqui I’ve seen a lot of people theorize that the journal containing the truth being discovered in and of itself is the joke. That because it’s a crack-pot, right-wing media outlet that no one will take it seriously and it will be seen as a conspiracy of sorts by the public, because the convenience of blaming the catastrophe that resulted in world peace on Dr. Manhattan will trump the possibility of uncovering the actual truth. A lot of people seem to think that that was Moore’s intent. But I think the idea that the paper runs with it and as a result of it going public people will catch wind of the truth and the state of the world will reset, negating the massive loss of human life, is a more impactful, fitting ending. Not sure if that’s how Moore intended it, but thematically it seems more in line with the rest of the book and the film adaptation.

Even if he did exposed Veidt, this isn’t a wholly heroic thing. There is still the risk that him exposing it could end up leading to America and Russia fighting again and lead to another Doomsday scenario. That’s the complexity of Watchmen, whether you side with Veidt, believing it was horrible but justified to focus their target away from eachother, or you believe that Rorschach’s journal would help bring justice to Ozymandias and expose his lies, neither are presented as the right solution. Of course Veidt deserves to be locked away for his actions but at what cost would it have on humanity.

  • @vince52271

So given the way things progress throughout this film. The real joke is that their solution for peace was in vain. Millions of people died for nothing and their world is most likely going to get worse because Rorschach didn't want peace to be based on a lie. That is one depressing movie and makes you question all of the characters actions. They're definitely not a Justice League because they seem to just "Watch" and observe as their world falls apart.

Vincent Maliga I think it's the fact that humans are weak with the exception of a few in the face of truth, but morally Rorschach is right to defend the truth because as much as he views reality with the black and white view that correlates with say something like religion, I think to a degree he knows that facing the truth and sharing it with others ... the hope isn't in others, but in truth to set things in motion so that someday there could be peace, but if it never comes or will, but in some future, it was up to him and the heroes to keep the balance. When you think about it, this why I understand heroes would rebel working for the government and just work on their own and amongst others who see things similarly. The Watchmen served America and I doubt anyone else. So of course their views and ideas and beliefs would get corrupted and warped when faced with the public who hates them when they think they're doing the right thing, when the truth is the opposite. Gotta give it to Rorschach he was in my opinion the definition of a hero in that universe to not give up his morals and ideals after coming from a childhood that is the exact opposite and needs to be tackled down.

No one can tell if the peace really stays this way or not a new heretic rises and human fall back into their own nature of war and grief. I would accept the lie if I would 100% know its working for ever. But if there is really just 1% thats off the charts I would always go with the truth.

+The Game Code Not really, think about everything that Rorschach wrote down. The dude was pretty far off on what Ozy's true plan. Assuming that Seymour went through and published the journal, the only thing they can get from it is that he killed some old and possibly that he was the Comedian . Which is bad for Veidt but looking at Eddie, he was an ass and was no shining pinnacle of humanity. On top that, Rorschach is known that he's clinically insane and on top of the Veidt has lots of money so that means very good lawyers. So for better or for worse, Rorschach doesn't have too much evidence. The only other people that can kill Veidt on his bullshit are dead,on the run or off playing God.

+marvel672 I disagree. If there's anyone who knows about just how smart Adrian really is (and there are) they will find it pretty fucking obvious. And from reading Rorschach's words, people will see he's not a deranged nut that the public makes him out to be. The Journal is the Evidence. As for lawyers, that's ridiculous! There's no lawyer that would convince the world to let go on the mass murder of millions. There may still be people who can stop him. The whole point is whether the Journal is used or not. This marks the first time where a man makes a choice over what is best for humanity, not the Watchmen.

Rorschach had his endgame already planned out, so well that even the smartest man alive didn't see it coming. Rorschach was more than aware of how dangerous Vieght would be, the distinct likelihood was that he was going to die. In fact, it was all but certain to him. This is why he firstly mailed the journal (he'd never be using it again), why he refused warmer clothing (he'd die from something quicker than hypothermia), why he attempted to suckerpunch Vieght, knowing it wouldn't work (suicide play) & why he insisted Dr. Manhatten finish it (last honest hero). I suspect Rorschach knew his crime-fighting days were drawing to a close due to several factors, namely his aging years, a lack of any intelligence network other than his own investigations, a suspected "mask killer" & a rapidly shifting public narrative that made him the bad guy. Possibly the reason he finally apologises to Dan for years of being an uncooperative, sociopathic hard-line douchbag when they were partners. He was getting his affairs in order.

"Ronald Reagan says he's running for president in '88..." Man, they blew that one. In the original book, we see mention of "RR" running for office, before finding out it's actually Robert Redford. The joke was supposed to be that in the Watchmen universe, the right-wing editor "obviously" wouldn't want a "cowboy actor" in the White House, while in our world he would presumably be on board with the idea, so long as it was the conservative Reagan rather than the liberal Redford. His outrage at Reagan's run makes no sense, unless I missed a scene in the movie where the presence of superheroes somehow turned Reagan into a Democrat.

To them, movies are extended advertisements. created to peddle merchandise with no regard for true DC fans. The theaters are full of audiences worldwide. And when the credits roll and the critics descend. When social media is overflown with with critique from both amateur and professionals. And when more and more petitions are signed worldwide, and all the fans demand it. When WB has no choice, but to deliver the film DC fans deserve. All the WB studio executives will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll whisper "No."

The guy made Superman watch quietly while his dad dies to save a dog to save his secret identity that he gives two fucks about in every single scene before and after his death. And wrote a ridiculous pseudo metaphorical BS movie about a girl wrongfully convicted in a mental institution and abused that becomes Neo in her head to save other girls. And don't even get me started on BvS and the Martha memes, Batman becoming a killer out of nowhere and having a bogus Lex Luthor inspired by a subpar graphic novel spinoff that fits the story like a pair of shoes to a fish.

Even an adaptation that's only 1/5th as good as the original Watchmen is better than a lot of other movies. As it is, most of the changes they made were things that simply made it better-suited to cinema than the straight comic, hence why it can feel unfaithful but still entertaining. That's not to say the straight comic COULDN'T work as a movie (case in point: the motion comic), but the film took a work that was firmly comic in structure, and altered it so it could still work as a movie.

I know I've seen this movie a hundred times, but everytime this scene comes to an end and Rorschach's narration begins, I always think the intro to 'Walk of Life's by Dire Straights is playing. Wouldn't that just be one Hell of a credits song for this? 😅
