Rorschach is the perfect mix between Batman and The Punisher. He's the most insane hero of the movie, but yet the most heroic. He literally gave his entire life to justice, surely one of the best superhero ever made.

He saw things in black and white, no compromise and no excuses he lived his life by his ethics and he died by them. His civilian side was his mask, and he blended in so well that no one knew who he really was till the police caught him and he took down a lot of cops before he was captured and that was truly bad ass.

His death is really interesting. Throughout the story, he referred to his mask as his face because he was Rorschach, and Walter Kovacs was dead. However, when it came time to die, he took off the mask. For whatever reason, he chose to die as Walter.

Rorschach is better than Batman, simply because he does what others are afraid to do. Batman compromises with what the world thinks of him by refusing to directly kill and even going so far as to never use guns. Rorschach never compromises, even in the face of Armageddon. Rorschach may be 'crazy,' but he's a better person than the rest of the Watchmen. He's a hero

Compromise does not make any sense without a set of values. If one holds on to those values at any cost, you can say they never compromise. Thats what both Batman and Rorschach do. If Batman would allow others to kill criminals so his hands wouldn't get dirty you could say he compromises. Instead he would try to stop whoever wants to kill the Joker with the same effort he would try to stop the Joker himself. In fact, from a certain perspective you could say that Rorscach compromised when he started killing criminals instead of bringing them to justice. He believed in the values of society but gave those up for his own reasons.

Then he gives the guy a hacksaw so in order to get out he'd have to saw off his hand, Rorschach then douses the whole room in kerosene telling him he shouldn't bother trying to get out because he would never make it in time. He then lights a match and set the murderer and the whole room on fire. "Stood in street. Watched it burn" "Imagined limbless felt torsos inside; breasts blackening; bellies smoldering; bursting into flames one by one." "Watched for an hour. Nobody got out."

The only thing I didn’t agree with was his defense of The Comedian and his history of “moral lapses”. But, I suppose Rorschach’s still Human: a flawed and somewhat sociopathic and at times psychotic Human. At least he makes up for his flaws by taking out the bad guys and never compromising, even in the face of Armageddon. He’s still my favorite character in the film btw

He is such an in depth character so many levels hear how he states free from lust I think he is afraid of who he really is as kovacs which is essentially a border line serial killer even rapist but he dealt with his mental issues with Rorschach. That is his foundation his shield from what he really is and is able to not be the monster he really is and find reason his monstrous acts. One of the deepest coolest character ever

He never raped anyone, he is a killer because society made him one. He more than anyone understood that this world was more complicated than just good or evil; that human has a nature in brutality but he nonetheless was always determined to deliver justice in the true way by what it should be and not by what society dimmed it to be, but because society itself was the one in the wrong he knew that as a individual he was doomed either way. No way out..... maybe he dying violently was the only way for him to die.

That whole final scene is just a cinematic masterpiece. The acting, the dialogue, the scream. Just perfection.

Such a great scene. Rorschach is himself. It’s him, no gadgets, no super powers nothing.

What I love about Rorschach. He is a mortal man who never allows a little deception to demoralize him, not even a little joke, all because he knew what was the right thing, no matter what has been done. In the end, he may have died, but his sacrifice has saved humanity from the little deception that Ozymandias made, the same joke that everyone laughed. He's one of the greatest men in movie history.

This movie is so drastically underrated. Beautiful cinematography, great cast, good plot, visual affects on point. Such a great movie

I’ve been reading watchmen and this is exactly what I imagined Rorschach’s voice sounded like

He was so damn brilliant that even Dr Manhattan had a realization. Truly the best character in the Watchmen.

Rorschach died because he was going to expose the facts. Better to be punched in the face with the facts than getting stabbed in the back with lies later. Edit: actually, he took off the mask so he could die as Walter, not Rorschach.

His basically Alex Jones meanwhile everyone else are just the villain in this show. Big Tech Media did what Manhattan did to Rorschach. Disappeared... People do deserve to know the truth and Alex did mention that more big name Democrats are pedophile, and they all go to that Pedo Island. later on Alex disappear and now we know what he was talking about. Epstein Island where Clinton visit more than 25 times in his flight log. As Crazy as Alex was, he was right about this 3yrs ago. meanwhile we just finding out about Epstein.

There was ONE TIME Rorschach compromised in the Novel...he was set to beat up his landlady for slandering him...but he saw the children...and remembered his past...and let her go...for their sake

Loved this film. Jackie Earle Haley did a fantastic job as Rorschach! Best part of the film.

Rorshach and Batman are interesting heroes because they both show an absolutist approach to ethics. The whole notion that moral compromise doesn't exist is something we have to ponder everyday

Very true. "With great power comes great responsibility" ;) I'd suggest watching 'Netflix Daredevil' as well (If you have an account). A very down to earth, gritty and moral take on superheroes for a screen adaptation. Great acting, choreography, cinematography and story, if you ask me. And it fits in to what you described. Third season coming out in a few days. Give it a shot - it's worth it :)

I don't like superhero films etc... but this is a masterpiece. Modern classic.

So much wisdom. Zack Snider did well by him. Right actor for Rorschach.

I know he’s a great fan of Nietzsche when he made rorschach.

The comic version of Rorschach killing the child murderer was more brutal. He handcuffed the guy to the Stove, passed him a hacksaw and poured Keroscene on the floor before igniting it. Giving the man the choice of being burned alive or sawing his arm off to escape.

Days of Future Past, Demon in a Bottle, Winter Soldier, Kraven's last hunt, Extremis, Dark Phoenix, Daredevil: Born Again, Planet Hulk, Original Sin, etc.... Here are some other ones you may not find as good but I do: Civil War, infinity Gauntlet, Annihilation, Old Man Logan, God loves Man kills, etc..... The main reason I prefer Marvel is because their characters are more diverse and interesting in terms of personalities, abilties and backgrounds. The fact that the most of them also have more limitations in their abilities also makes them more relatable and realistic (same reason why I love Batman a lot).

Haley is a tremendous actor and a complete credit to the art. A national treasure.

I've seen too many people call Rorschach "edgy", and honestly, they couldn't be more wrong. Walter is a beaten and broken individual. He sees the world through the eyes of a poor man who's been a victim to the worst of it. The word "edgy" itself doesn't even have a proper definition anymore, but I know for sure that Rorschach is not Edgy.

My dude, Alan Moore specifically wrote Rorschach to be edgy. He was supposed to be this realistic version of Batman and a bad influence to readers.

A bad influence that was fucking right the entire time. A man who stuck to what he throught and what was right to the end and I need not quote him but I will anyway as it sums up my own sense of justice in the face of the real world we live in. Dogs get put down. And if I had my way we'd have more tombstones than inmates. How many rapists walk the streets, how many politicians feed off the country's starvation and how many rich pathetic piles of shit destroy our planet all for money with no concern to anything else that lives we are a plague and the more people slaughtered the better. Good men don't exist anymore

Take the word of Alan Moore, the creator of Watchmen: "I wanted to...make [Rorschach] as like, 'this is what Batman would be in the real world'. But I have forgotten that actually to a lot of comic fans, 'smelling', 'not having a girlfriend', these are actually kind of heroic! So Rorschach became the most popular character in Watchmen. I made him up to be a bad example. But I have people come up to me in the street and saying: 'I AM Rorschach. That is MY story.' And I'd be thinking, 'Yeah, great. Could you just, like, keep away from me, never come near me as long as I live?'"

@Stix N' Stones I hate to tell you, you don't get to argue with the writer of the book about the characters he created, even if you don't agree with him (I know that I sure don't, but frankly, his political standing is completely irrelevant to this discussion). I understand that art is in the eye of the beholder, but you have to be able to seperate canon from headcanon. Interpreting a piece of literature a certain way doesn't make it correct. Interesting and thought provoking, sure. But not correct.

The scream when Rorschach died was the best Agony Scream ive ever heard in a movie

That’s one thing the movie did better than the comic. I always found it weird how Dan basically just forgets about Rorschach’s existence in the book. At least here, he shows he truly cares about him.

This movie just gave me the feeling of reading a book rather then watching a film

Pat new monetisation policy is very new. What’s annoying me is him acting like it’s his thing.

Just noticed when he cries "do it" you can hear Dr. Manhattans presence echo softly "No" damn that's sad he didn't want to kill his friend. He finally found humanity again and he had to destroy it in himself, all to protect it

He wasn't the hero we wanted. He was the hero we deserved.

"Sometimes the night is generous to me" A mysterious quote from the outside looking in but from Rorschach's perspective, he's appreciative of the opportunity to deal justice in an unmoral and inevitable situation.

Rorshach was too Real for the world to handle

Rorschach may not be a good person, but he’s an AMAZING character. Probably one of my favorites.

Perfect casting. One of the best performances in any comic book movie. Minor spoilers for the HBO Watchmen series: I'm glad that he didn't appear in any flashback scenes because I couldn't imagine a different actor playing him since Jackie Earle Haley was born for the role.

Aaaaaaaand here’s my new favourite DC superhero Sorry Flash, but Rorschach is just too incredible to pass up on, he’s like a more old school Batman, with less flawed ideals It’s the flawed “If you kill a killer the number of killers stays the same” vs the logical “Men get arrested, dogs get put down” Joker’s lucky he dealt with Batman and not Rorschach

Rorschach is the best comic hero to ever grace the silver screen. Questioning his own methods and then readapting them to what was necessary. Flipping the script on the delusional prison shrink. Decimating the gorilla next to him in the prison lunch line. He did many other noticeable things, but last and certainly not least, he committed suicide by confronting Dr. Manhattan with what he knew. Much props to Rorschach, it's rare that I find a comic book character so impressive.

I also like him as Freddy Krueger. He's a great actor.

This has always been my favorite comic book movie.

12:06 he would’ve made a great Wolverine. He’s half the size of all the inmates, but overpowers every one of them with his aggression, strength, and prowess with the most amazing gravely voice.

Rorshack is my favorite anti villain hero of all time there is no compromise in this
