    We call it thumb in the line. We just yell "thumb in the line!" Everyone starts being more careful. Also new guys are taught to lay to the line but it should have daylight between it. To test the line "has to dance." Some will "dance the line" after every brick lol.

    Hey I always watch your videos. This might be a stupid question but is there any purpose for pointing? Because I think it looks better with the concrete flush with the brickwork.

    Striking off the work adds a tight pressure joint that weathers better. We do lots of styles in St Louis Missouri to match Historic work from concave to convex, flat and raked out recessed ones. Weather joints add some dimension.

    Hey Stu. Just saw a video on dragons den about a bricklayer who invented circular mortar boards that bolt onto the side of the scaffold. Wanted to get your opinion of these as I didn’t think it was a great idea but they did. Cheers Ben.

    What is used as a plasticizer in the United States. No matter what I do I can’t get my mortar to be fluffy, sticky, smooth and stiff at the same time? Most of the time I use Quikrete type s mortar, that could be my problem?

    I still don't undestand how you can finish the line with the perfect half or full brick. Do you measure on the first line? Is just experience and you keep measuring "by eye"? It would be nice to see a video explaining all these things. Great work as always, btw!

    Hello there Stu, I watching one of yours vids, it was the part 2 of the one where you built the radius garden wall.There was some music playing, it was a female singer and the main lyric was IN THIS CITY, I have been searching everywhere to find it to no avail. CAN YOU HELP. It would be a great addition if you listed your music, there are some good ones, cheers.

    It's always baffled me why most bricklayers put the line up before spreading a bed. They're walking back and forth twice as much as you have to. The only argument they could counter with, it rots the line. Even if thats the case, line is cheap when the money goes up by a couple of hundred quid a month for changing one simple thing.

  • @Stucrompton1

    @Stucrompton1

    i kow what you mean but for me you can get mortar caught between the line and face and you cant get a clean cut so its just easier and you dont have worry about smudging the face but i tottally know what youre saying john
