    Im a collector of giant spider. Only giant spider im missing is alpha. Got every different giant spider art in japanese and foil where possible. Japanese foil 7th edition is my rarest one I think.

    I had no idea there were other giant spider collectors out there! This makes me so happy. I collect English only, but have every copy in regular and foil. Even got to meet Randy Gallegos this year and have him sign all the spiders with his art. He's a very nice fellow, if you can ever meet him, let him know there's more spider guys out there!

    I was introduced to magic with my dads old box of cards and every time I sat down to look through those cards there was one that always stood out to me despite not even knowing the history of that card. It was Giant Spider, specifically the white bordered sixth edition. And still every time I look through those old and damaged cards that's the one that always sticks out to me. I sit and stare and it's artwork, fascinated by its beady, focused eyes. It's my favorite magic card for that reason, not just any giant spider, but specifically 6th edition Giant Spider.

    Spiders have always been one of my favorite creature types in Magic, which is strange because anything insect-like in real life tends to gross me out (I have the same conundrum with Bug-type Pokemon. They're so cute!). Probably the most hilarious thing I have done with Spiders is made a modern mono-green Spider control deck that abused Swarmyard to control the board with Deathtouch Spiders. Actually beat my buddies more competitive modern deck too.

    Just finished watching another one of these, and tbh, your content has become hands down, by far, my favorite type of MTG content out there. It`s just so well researched and studied, without being pretentious, pedantic or condescending. It's a careful balance that i think you just hit so well. Everything from your narrative to the amazing edition and funny inserts really makes these amazing. Thanks for the effort you clearly put into these. If i could i would be a patreon, and as soon as i can, i will.

    There's a quote from the Magic games that I'll never forget: "...but you have a Giant Spider."

  • @varsoonhks3211

    @varsoonhks3211

    2 жыл бұрын

    For context, one of the Duels games had a voiced tutorial section. In a moment that was teaching about keyword abilities, you're given the example of a Flying creature able to evade your blockers. On the next turn, however, you're able to play Giant Spider and use its Reach ability to block. There was a very unnecessary yet cute inflection put onto the sentence that went something along the lines of "Normally, you would not be able to block this flying creature... ...but you have a Giant Spider." And since then it's actually stuck with me as something of an inside joke. When friends will posit any sort of sentence with the same construction like "Yeah normally I wouldn't buy something like that" or "I usually can't get away with this" then I'll interrupt them with an equally slick, "--but you have a Giant Spider." Of course, any time I'm able to block a flyer in Magic with a Reach creature, the line comes to mind as well, and even internally I find myself returning to it.

    I love core sets mostly because we are not in a world engineered and created by Magic, rather we get the opportunity to create our own world with setpieces like Angels, Spiders, Goblins, and any sort of magical entity we desire. These core sets are like a blank D&D character sheet, a foundation to which we develope our world of Magic around us. I started playing when Magic Origins and I loved casting giant fireballs and summoning enormous creatures. I didn't need to know we were on some plane or whatever, I just wanted to feel like a wizard exploring a new world and that's what I beleive core sets do best.

When I was in grade school, I bought the 9th Edition "Custom Creatures" mono-green theme deck, and combined it with black cards from my first few booster packs. My deck's main "Combos" were enchanting Giant Spider with web, or sacrificing lands with Arcane Spyglass and returning them with Groundkeeper to draw cards. I still have a soft spot for the Randy Gallagos art.

    I'm playing MtG for 20 years, now. Every time, when I open boosters and pick a spider, I'm really excited. I thinking every time to create a spider-tribe-deck. 1-2 minutes later I forget it. Spiders are so often in basic or core sets. My most favorites are from the older sets between 1994-2002. I hope to see a tribe deck of spiders one day in standard.
