One of my fondest memories is a match against a friend of mine who was playing Lantern control. I was on amulet titan and I managed to win thanks to a very angry 0/1 plant token from Khalni garden, buffed by Slayer's stronghold and Sun-home. Such a good time.

I have a funny relationship with lantern control, back when I first started playing I tried out modern at my LGS and I played against lantern twice. I was around 12-13 at the time so I had a terrible budget rakdos burn deck. I lost to time in both rounds then got the bye to round off a miserable night. I decided modern wasn’t for me and I never played it again for about 7-8 years, in which I got back into the format around the tail end of MH2. This deck single handedly kept me out of modern lol

I really dislike pop-art, and her artstyle is the exact opposite of what I like. But it' still art made by a highly skilled artist. You can have personal taste and still aknowledge outstanding pieces (and outstanding her artwork is).

good video, but im pretty sure in 20 years nobody gonna pay for these new ass looking foils^^ while old border foils will be hundreds or thousands a piece. you can call me a hater, but i think everybody who celebrates new foils just wants to be part of that past so badly, thats why they hype up the new things that really arent like it used to be. same with games, you can find this scenario in the biggest gaming franchises known today. modern magic in general is only hyped nowadays cause people want to be a part of, even if it isnt during the prime time.

Foiling is a hit miss thing for me. So is special borders. I'm a huge fan of non border, strixhaven and the brothers war artifacts. But for the rest I'm not overboard with them. I specifically do not like amonkat and the black and white cards. Style should never take precedent over game play and those two definitely do.

The fact there are so many different editions of the same card means there is collectability. I would love to have varience in my commanders look, so I've started using the art cards for the ones that don't have amazing alternate arts. That being said; I harbor a hatered for seperating the products into "those with vs those without". Opening a Baby Godzilla card was an amazing experience that led me into buying so much collectors edition, I didn't eat for a while. Foils were cool when I was just getting into the game, and they're still cool to see now. Especially if I have the same card. I love seeing the alt art foils from Strixhaven. I love seeing people play with their "collectible" pieces because they enjoy it. I love playing with my cards! You said it best... it's just a card game. I think about how I spent close to $200 on a base jeweled lotus, and how I could have gotten a Textured foil Ulamog the infinite gyre instead. Sure Ulamog is absolutely gorgeous, but I know it's just a fringe fun card. One to add to my deck with all my favourite game pieces, that I'm slowly foiling out. Saving up for the foil borderless jeweled lotus, or starting my dual land collection is now a discussion I need to have with myself 😅. Side note: I firmly believe the Godzilla style of alters was the correct way to incorporate outside I.P.s...

i was born exactly in 1990. when yugioh, pokemon and magic started we had a tiny shop here in town. it was called Lummerland. The woman who worked there alwasy had the sets, and hulk figures and such. its funny there is still until today a hologram shop right next to it. Lummerland closed probably 18 years ago or so, but im happy i was part of that beginning era.

This is beautiful to watch. With the printing of art cards in boosters, this kind of idea popped into my head. Just using the art as the card. Boom, I find this video. I know the art cards are more frowned upon, but I genuinely appreciate the art. I own a mana drain, but the new Outlaws of thunder junction print was wonderfully done, just to be (imo) ruined by the chosen border style. I happened to get a gold stamped version of it in my box, along with the actual card! I then looked back at the other art cards I quickly dismissed and saw a Rhystic Study anime alt art, and it popped. I was entranced by the beauty. I think I'm gonna use them, opponents be damned. Ill write the effect on the back or have the real version close by.

Your ability to communicate the feeling of nostalgia and the sense of the past is truly amazing, I started magic in the tarkir block, and by the time I reached out from my small group of highschool friends and no format, table magic modern was already a sea of hyper tuned cheap cmc decks whose average game turn count kept going down. I never experienced the time of the goyf, but I still felt like I was watching someone talk about the first time I zerod a life total with a burn spell. The first a deck clicked.

I think the art for faithless looting was very... Jarring? We have MANY more secret airs dropping funky and wild art these days, basically normalizing what Faithless Looting first did with this art. Nowadays I see magic cards that look nothing like magic cards, but comic book covers, metal albums, etc... I was surprised that WOTC went in this artistic direction, but it was wild, and out there, and it dared me to stare at it and inspect it. Then again, my sister is an artist, so I grew up learning not to judge just wildly creative output.
