I hated the boyfriend and one of her friends because they loved the benefit of her job (handbags and lingerie) but criticized the way she is achieving her goal. wanting to be good at her job isn't a bad thing. then, at the end, when the boyfriend said he got promoted or got his dream job, she said congratulations! she was supportive more than he was, and moving up in his career is okay for him but not for her? It made me so upset, and I wish she didn't have to apologize so much.

@@filmingwithyazz4185 I think you can sympathize with him insofar as it was a sudden change and it makes sense that he may have been upset with spending less time with her, upset she missed his birthday, or seen changes in her that he thought were negative along with some of the positive changes... but he went about it terribly. He needed to just communicate instead of going at her. And he also should've made more effort to understand and support her. He was very overdramatic and overly critical. But it's a movie so healthy communication is never the answer for a conflict in the plot.

We didn’t get to our positions by running out of the office, being half arsed, or not being contactable when really needed. Obviously with exceptions in mind as you need to state boundaries from early on. I have a healthy work/life balance, but I’m based in the UK…. So. You don’t make 6 figures by not putting in the extra work. Other perks are, if I work late, I’m not expected to login early the next day or I just take additional time off when I need to. Hypocritical because she always told Andy to never question or turn down Miranda but when it affected her like going to Paris, all of a sudden she was like "you should have said no" and then called the very good excuse of "you know how she is" as pathetic. One of the things that helps this film hold up so well is the costume design, done by the legendary Patricia Field. Field has a particular ability to chose fashion that remains almost completely timeless, whilst also seeming totally on-trend for the moment for any show or movie's setting. The other production Field is most well-known for is the original run of Sex & The City on HBO. Once again, whilst some of that show doesn't hold up as well in retrospect, the fashion & clothes remain timeless & iconic.

The Devil Wears Prada would have been a 10/10 movie if Andy roasted her friends and Nate for only being suppprtive when they got things from her, slapped Simon Baker, became besties with Emily and then became a fashion journalist (possibly talking about technology in textile manufacturing, where/how textiles, colours and patterns are developed across the world, exploitation in fashion) at Runway.

  • @charlienavidad

him completely missing the point of the ‘not Just cerulean’ scene while wearing an ed hardy hoodie… lol pure comedy. fashion is an art form, the high fashion industry is created by collections of artists working their asses off and their art creates ripples in the water creating art trends which then get duped and become mainstream while the original creative minds behind the trend rarely get full credit. it’s a brutal cutthroat industry that people kill to get into to this very day. yes the industry can be very harmful but it’s undeniably supporting the creative livelihood of millions in the world for centuries. the whole point of the movie is that andy initially disregards fashion simply as stupid, superficial, and boring but comes to learn and appreciate it by finding out about how much effort and education actually goes into it by working directly with people who design clothes.

Love how into this Cam got, it really is a great movie! FYI for anyone wondering, the reason 'Miranda' gets away with her behavior is because she's based on Anna Wintour, American Vogue editor, and literally the most influential person in the fashion and publishing game worldwide. Being one of her assistants would give you a lot of the necessary contacts and prestige to further your career immensely, so naturally there is a lot of competition for these roles. The movie is based on a book by a writer, who, the story goes, WAS basically Andy at the Vogue offices with Anna Wintour. Apparently Miranda is a bit nastier, even, in the book. Fashion is one of my special interests so I felt the need to share, apologies! 😅

I REALLY enjoyed your reaction to this film! You were both very understanding and able to put yourself in her shoes (both fashionable and not so fashionable). To watch her stuck in a place where it was her only option at the time and the personal hardships that brought with it, and the growth she went through despite the adversity. The takes on the friends and the boyfriend were really refreshing, and making an effort to understand the world she has been thrust into. The asymmetry of her relationships with all of tbe people in the film, and calling out the toxic behavior of the "hot" guy she ends up having a fling with. I've seen a few reactions to this movie, and men (sorry to generalize) generally have a lot of trouble relating, because they see fashion, or even just a change in her looks, and it completely takes them out of the deeper character development. I really appreciated the empathy that you had throughout the video in so many ways, especially because it wasn't JUST toward the main character, and while some things may have been the "dream" for some (like Paris), you were able to bring it back down to earth, because that stuff is never as important as those characters make it seem. But you also were not completely dismissive of characters, even when they are meant to be the main villain (except for that asshole guy who is truly the only one who just used her). Not to mention that, especially in today's "climate," the careers of women and their desires to succeed are so minimized and dismissed. Really loved it!

For context: this came out in 2006, when Andie would definitely have been considered fat. Size 0 was the aim (UK size 4). Models were all anorexic and treated awfully. Even Emily was too fat to wear the Paris clothes. Gotta represent. You don't know what the fashion industry put the girls through growing up😭🤣That's why the body positivity movement started. The scene when she turns down meeting the editor of The New Yorker just so see her bf was frustrating to watch. I’d be damned if I stopped my significant other from chasing their dreams just bc it’s my bday, who cares? We can celebrate my birthday tomorrow, you have the opportunity of a lifetime this evening, chase your dreams NOW and we’ll do something for my bday tomorrow. To make it worse, Nate gets his chef job in Boston at the end. So the boyfriend is allowed to get ahead in his career but Andie is not allowed to get ahead in hers? And he’s lowkey hinting that she should drop everything and move to Boston for HIS dreams. That’s trash Andie’s bf and friends should’ve supported her. They low-key were the real villains of this movie. She was only gonna be working that job for 1 year and they lost their minds after a few months

This guy is a one man show. Almost as good as the movie hearing him ranting in a Brit accent with wit and humour is a riot.
