    WatchGecko you guys are the only watch company I’ve ever seen that actively goes out and engages with potential customers on social channels and actually appreciates their feedback. Great to see a brand do that. That definitely makes an impact in the long run. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the updated K1.

    Yeah, mechanical is "cool," but very impractical. The complications require more work than you time only or time & (day)date pieces. Buying vintage was eye-opening for me in that regard.

    Daym I love the way it looks on that racing strap, blue subdials look fanstastic😍Have no problem with the name, english is not my native language so there is no bad association with anything, font looks a bit sharpie-like, could be a little thinner and more elegant I guess (see Glashutte as an example). Great review Patrick! I hope they send you triple calendar when it's out for a review, looks awesome at 40mm. Their site is lil bit complicated imo, just to casually find where they have all the watches are took me 6 or 7 pages, it should be just one click imo, but thats just me.

    You are dead right about the 24 hour dial. It is a prerequisite of the movement which is a but crap really. The only upside is it has a mechanical look movement in the chrono. That's great but if you use it as a permanent second hand the battery life is reduced by more than half. Great review.

    Cool video, I got the c01 with the silver dial love it but the smaller dial on the left is slightly off it isn't very important but it is described as being produced with "meticulous" quality control standards, and with no seconds hand I haven't found a way to set time exactly as you would by stopping the seconds hand at 12 so with no way to set time exactly any claim of accuracy is fairly pointless

    I enjoyed this review. A Quartz chronograph is the only way to go for most people. I love mechanical watches, but I am not mega rich, and have come a cropper with clockwork chronos in the past when they go wrong (and they always do) I include Breitling, Omega and Seiko. So stock to quartz for a chronograph even if it churns its way round the dial to reset to zero! Love Geckota-WatchGecko, what's in a name?

    Great review. As I said before, I don't mind the logo. I do think the 24h sub-dial is a waste of time, and also miss the markers on the minutes one, however it does provide a pleasing symmetry. It does seem very well made, but I don't think it's that cheap, there are lots of other watches available for that price. I think in the end its looks will win me over, though, really love the case and dial. If it were, say, 50€ cheaper I'd have no qualms.

    No one would be "nitpicking" if the watch wasn't 95% perfect. I hope Watchgecko looks at the complaints as constructive criticism to improve the product. They target watch geeks and 300 pounds isn't cheap so you can expect demanding customers. It's in the same price range as the Bulova moon watch so they have stiff competition. Did you check the watch with a loupe for finer details? Some watches really disappoint me with dust and scratched hands.

  • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett

    @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett

    6 жыл бұрын

    No, I did not notice any dust/scratches on the finish. Honestly, the execution is great. My Seiko SSA345 (featured here) was a $450+ watch and there was visibly, without a loupe, dust fragments on the hands and indices... Again, QC with them has been horrendous, but I didn't have that issue here.

    First, great review, points and personal insight into the watch. Let me get this out of the way next, and I don't want to rehash what was stated many times before, but i still feel it needs an emphasis on what could make the sale of the watch more appealing and easier for a lot of potential buyers. If Watch Gecko is reading comments, I believe they'd exponentially increase sales volume of their watches if Geckota name was changed to something more "mature". I mean I've noticed the comments as well and with the strong design and quality that seems to be inherent in nearly all their self-branded watches, it is silly and sad that "Geckota" is the one mostly intangible aspect that keeps a fair number of potential buyers from ultimately pulling the trigger. However, I am one of those people, too. That being said, again, on the flip side I don't expect Watch Gecko to change their branding and would hold some respect if they stick to their guns and say "f" you, buy it as it or leave it, the choice is yours. And, God forbid if they should change the name under pressure and take away the fun and child-related memories you have in your own personal association with the brand name. And, I personally don't need a watch that is stuck up and air some bit of watch snobbery with branding.. I just still need it to look and sound right to me. Anyways.. let's not go there again..next. I really do find the G1 V03 diver quite stunning. That red radient dial, cross hairs and similar square case is a nice package. I'm not sure if I like the gold on it however.. I mean it works, but gold isn't really a color I gravitate towards a lot in watches unless it's done particularly well.. that's the only little niggle about the G1 V03 is if I would be able to enjoy the gold accents mixed in... and, oh, yeah.. Geckota ;P BTW, is that an Uncle Seiko "RAZOR-WIRE" bracelet you have on your SKX? I was considering that, unique look, but not sure if the razor part of it matches anything on my SKX.. it's different and unique use and configuration of "mini-links" to give it that eye catching "razor-wire" look. Interesting you have changed your views on mechanical/automatic vs quartz chronographs. It was a topic I think we touched on back when you were doing PW. I had mentioned that in many ways a quartz chronograph actually makes more sense. A chronograph is used to time and measure and with such a device, you want it to be as accurate and reliable as possible. No matter the lack of romanticism associated with a fully mechanical/automatic chronograph, they will never beat out the accuracy and reliability of a quartz chronograph and they can do it at more affordable price range, too. Additionally, quartz chronographs can be even more functional for the money. There are many variations, but you can do split timing with good number of quartz chronographs.. a function which will cost you even more in the mechanical/automatic world. Some can run and display super short fractions of a second timing. Again, an additional feature which you'd pay a lot more for in a mechanical/automatic chronograph. And, probably even more chronograph features are available to you if you go digital, including alarms (and/or beeps).. which are all expensive features in the mechanical/automatic world. I think sometimes some disgust or lack of face shown towards quartz watches is that they can do as much, if not more and beter, than mechanical/automatic watches can and they can do so at much lower costs.. it's almost like cheating at the game.. which I feel are some sentiments than transcends into Spring Drive movements.. it's not fully mechanical and relies on quartz to kick ass at accuracy and silky smooth second hand sweep. Anyways, did I rant a bit again? IDK, whatever.. As much as I agree a good modern quartz chronograph is a better practical choice, I do lean slightly more towards an automatic/mechanical chronograph if given the choice. But, if none offerred and quartz is the only option, I wouldn't automatically snub it because it's only quartz. Like any watch, I have to look at the overall design and value to me before I write it off or add it to the cart to check out.

    To each his own on the name, yeah... The market is ripe with "mature" brands and try hards... We don't need another, not in my book. Names have associative qualities, I can still see where you're coming from, but I quite like the choice here. Again, purely subjective. That is! Boy... Yeah, not enough good things to say on that *bracelet.* The Razor-Wire, by Uncle Seiko is a gem. Best $90 I've spent recently, but we can talk on that later. Review has been shot! Need to edit it out still. Should release next month. Yes, buying vintage has changed my perception. I think it's important to keep an open mind as to how we collect. This hobby has led me down several buying paths and as of late I've been enjoying $200-500 dollar quartz chronos quite a bit. They're getting better and I'm happy to indulge as they don't eat up too much of my bank account. Yeah, quartz has taken an overall fall from favor since inception - when they came about it was only ever a "Crisis" for the Swiss, for the Japanese & American market it was a Revolution - but I find their quality, function and form (often thinner) superior to mechanical pieces in many ways. "Lasting power," how long it'll keep ticking, is another thing entirely... I know that's the main argument for mechanical pieces. For some watches, that matters, but for the most part I just want to enjoy the watch while I'm here. I own both. Again, depending on what I want the watch for, mechanical -vs- quartz varies.

    'WatchGecko' and 'Geckota' are not good names but I don't find the branding to be in poor taste or over the top. For example the Tudor Pelagos has waaay too much writing on the dial and that looks childish and shitty. This is a very good looking watch.
