My daughter plays soccer and softball, just went through the recruitment process she ended up focusing on soccer, but everything he says was the exact same with soccer. From zeroing in on the type of school, cast a large net, stay in contact with the coaches, even the covid roster issues are the same. Also less money out there now, check the net cost of the schools, every school has a net cost calculator.

Which infielder? Short stop is way different than third and second base. All three definitely need great hands, hands down (no pun intended). If you can't field your position, then it's a no go. What I mean by field your position is that you have to make all the easy outs, and plenty of hard outs as well. Too many position players can hit and produce runs.

First step: are you actually good enough? I've seen so many guys overestimate their skills and put off the weight room and extra practice. Anyone can play college ball if they work for it though.

Hey Matt. Have you ever run into situations in which politics and a buddy-buddy system allows inferior high school players the chance to play over superior high school players who got cut? What does a superior player do if he gets cut from his high school team due to politics? It happens all the time. I can share several personal stories and ugly hidden truths behind politics in baseball.

You don't need HS anymore, there are plenty of private teams that are much better and more competitive.

@@nynole1 we had teams and leagues back then (25 years ago) that were superior to high school and Division 1 College teams. I remember the radio announcer for our high school baseball team started announcing for our recreation baseball team in the state championship tournament. He was shocked at how great our team was and asked my mom where all of these players came from. My mom said we were rejects from the high school team. He said he had never seen any teams as good as ours and our competitors in his time announcing high school games. He wanted to know why many of our players did not play on the high school team. But, it was still those players in high school who got college scholarships for baseball. I could not get any offers because I was one of the superior players who got cut. I had 2 tryouts with the Kansas City Royals during my first 2 years in college. The second tryout was magic. Apparently, I ran the 60 yard dash fast enough and performed well enough defensively to allow me a chance to show my hitting skills. The scout said you get 3 swings and that's it. They were trying out some stud pitcher who was pumping 98mph+ heat. I pulled a pitch foul, hit another to left field for a single, and sent the next one into orbit - around 500+ feet. A few minutes later, the scout had the pitcher fill out more paperwork. I asked the scout if he wanted me for anything else. He said "no". So, I asked him why he did not show any interest in having me fill out that same paperwork. He asked me if I played baseball in high school and if I had a high school coach as a reference. I said "No, I was cut in high school due to partiality and favoritism of other players." So, he asked me "If you got cut in high school, why do you think you can perform at the Major League level?". I said "I just proved it to you as I had all of you going OOH and AAH at my performance against this pitcher who you show so much interest in!". I had major surgery after that and never played again! It was my dream that was destroyed by terrible coaches in high school who played certain kids for favors instead of putting the best players on the field.

Be born to rich enough parents and they can just pay for your spot on the team 😅
