@@davidpinontoan3429 I was thinking the same thing, a rough estimation can be made. The explosion happened at 7 seconds and still hasn't arrived at 45 seconds after that point at the end of the video. This must mean that, with the average speed of sound at 343m/s that the eruption was at least 15.4km (About 9.5 miles) away. Which is quite a long way but still believable, and probably a good choice, in the circumstances....

@DeadEyeJedi
2 жыл бұрын
@@Sunrosediaries Not sure if that is a boom or just wind blowing into the mic of the camera to be honest. Distance _would_ have an impact on volume, but that is a BIG explosion, and that seems far too quiet to be associated with it. It could be, but I personally have my doubts. Edit: For example, look at videos of the Beirut explosion, the shockwave was still breaking windows at 6 miles. If this sound reached at 28 seconds, then that would be about 7km (5 miles away). I would have thought it would be louder if that were the case.

Now this, this is how you film a natural event! The camera's held steady and in landscape, the person filming doesn't bottle it and lower the camera at the precise moment the event happens - despite them often being far from the danger - and everything's clear and in focus. Top marks, I say!

Me and the hubby sailed past Stromboli in 2019 while on a cruise. It is constantly active and has been in continuous eruption for 2,000- 5,000 years. It was amazing to see.
I’m Italian, and I’ve visited Stromboli 3 times already. The last time was just a few days ago, and I was on a boat enjoying the eruption at night. I saw the most beautiful mini lava eruptions (“mini” meaning like 40-80 meters tall) and it was a once in a lifetime view that really shocked me. But I had NO idea that Stromboli was THIS powerful. I’m guessing the island was evacuated beforehand and no one was hurt, right?

I’m in the US, and a friend and I were in a restaurant eating a Stromboli. I explained to him that Stromboli was an island off of Italy, and he didn’t believe me! Said I was making it up! My theory is, people in Stromboli folded their pizza in half to keep the ashes out?

@@easypeasy2938 I saw a documentary about Stromboli a few years back, and there is a village on one side of the volcano. All of the houses have metal roofs, because ashes are constantly falling, maybe some days more than others. And every night, they all sit outside and watch the fireworks as lava spews from the volcano all the time. Again, I’m sure it varies. Imagine living on the slope of an active volcano! It’s a fishing village, so I guess when something like this eruption happens, they can jump on their boats and make a quick escape.

Saw a little bit of lightning in that eruption. Cool video 😊❤
I am more blown away that cameraman didn't look away the very moment the explosion occured
Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Beautiful footage.
It truly gets scary when you get the sense of scale comparing the whole thing with the town on the opposite shore.
Now, that is how you shoot a video. 👍👏
Stromboli: I'm a fierce volcano, fear me- Italian-Americans: *Haha, cold cut turnover go brrr*
Been there twice, and to its' neighbouring volcano, Vulcano, yet it was always the sleeping volcano that unsettled me more. Stromboli seemed almost like a novel way of giving tourists a natural firework show like no other. To hear that it had again gone against expectations, erupted with force and killed someone wasn't unexpected, but it shook me nonetheless
First clear video of a sudden incident I've ever seen in my life

Lmao maybe the volcano saying he friendly.
Ummm.. turn the boat around. Now please.
The scarriest thing is the fact that I climbed the volcano two days before that, i rember the guide said when we arrived on top:” in this period it seems to be really active!”. As we watched all the mini eruptions. Two days later I was Also on a boat with some friends when one of them yelled to look at the volcano. From that moment the picture of the pillar of smoke is just printed in my memory for the rest of my life …
Nicely composed picture using the photographic “rule of thirds”. The horizon is one third of the way to the top. The mast is one third of the way to the right.

Interesting. Makes me think that a person can capture the moment a volcanoe erupts and it is crisp and clear, in focus and all that stuff you said. Meanwhile, UFOs are still blurry blobs.
Good camera work...pretty steady and even zooms in! One could very easily react and do otherwise,...so great, calm nerves!

Saubere und sehr gute Aufnahme, sensationell!
È stata indubbiamente bravissima in tutto....le si deve solo dire Grazie......baci.....ciao......
It’s remarkable. It plays like a planned take for a film. The cameraman was calmly focused on the mountain, then KaBoom! Wait a few moments....CUT!
"Circomare circomare Lipari" damn, hearing this makes me so nostalgic about the good old times of internship as engineer on tourist ferries.

Did not film the exact moment when they decided to turn the other way from the volcano they were heading toward. Amazing capture, in all seriousness. thank you for the post.
I climbed Stromboli about two weeks before this happened. It was great! Try to do it. When there's no activity of course.
I climbed stromboli in 2017 and looked into the caldera during sunset. It was an amazing tour but I don't think I realized the magnitude of the danger then.

You didn't realize the danger of climbing up a volcano and peering into it's caldera? It took you this long to realize that's dangerous? 😂 OMG too funny

@@visionist7 No. The wind was blowing it the steam the other way and we were way above. These "adventure" tours don't make them seem dangerous.
Thats gotta be the coolest thing is to be on that boat and witness that, great footage!
Don't know whats at the base of the mountain on that side, but looks like the little town on the left side was spared serious damage. AND AGAIN.., great job by the person taking the video.
I don't understand how you could be so relaxed being that close to an active volcano
Time to figure out which way the wind was blowing and travel in a different direction! Scary!

My thoughts exactly, however, if she's under sail .... looks like it's blowing away from the boat ... which is to say, right towards it. However, people may need evacuation help.

The same thought I had, both that maybe they should run, and also that maybe they should stay and help. I believe someone in the background started to speak in the radio reporting the phenomena to someone. The settlement on the right side is in grave danger should pyroclastic flows launch.

It's so eerie that this video isn't even long enough for the sound to reach the camera. Seeing this happen silently in the distance is so unsettling.
Truly impressive
No, you're not seeing things. Those white dots on the left side of the volcano...is a settlement. Probably the worst place to build one, honestly. 500 people live there, apparently.
