Joy - a video of your FULL wedding day would be amazing - start to finish, getting ready to wedding couple exit. I LOVE the ones that kind of start us out in the car on the way to the first location, set us up as though we are the second shooter and you are filling us in on everything before the day starts. THOSE are the videos I watch the most, and they are the ones I learn from best. Watching and listening to you in the actual moment is HUGE, and it helps me the best. When you also then, go back and do voice overs to explain, that helps a lot as well. When you talk through your thought process on what you do and why you do it, that's what really helps us learn what works best. One of the things that I struggle with the most is just knowing how to pose them - in every situation, at every part of the day.

This was perfect, you explained your positioning, what the second shooter was up to and your thought process. I also love how you mostly use natural light and on camera flash. I feel less under equipped! All the other wedding photographers have huge softboxes and several Profoto B10s even when the light is perfect 😂😂😂

You were REALLY workin' it!!! So many great photos for the new Mr. & Mrs. to choose from. ... Love the 2nd shooter getting pix too. (And the 'sneaker' photo of the bride on the steps... fantastic!!!) ... This particular bride has an AWESOME smile, and she took your direction well. It all came together so nicely. ... ... ... ... ... ... One last point, and I defer to you on this (you're the pro photog, not me), but it has always been a pet-peeve of mine when wedding photographers wear anything other than black. I prefer them to blend in for a high-end ceremony. I (personally) find photographers wearing casual-ish clothes distracting as an attendee to the wedding. Again, my personal preference. But I defer to you since you've been doing this for so many years. ... ... ... Great work! You're skilled and passionate about your craft!!!

Hey Joy! Happy new year!! Thank you for this amazing insight to your wedding days! When using the flash during the bridal prep do you have your flash on manual or TTL and using exposure comp? Thank you!
@Joymichelle
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Happy new year! Honestly, my data doesn’t show exact settings so I cannot tell you 100% what I was using in that moment but for the most part I use TTL with an exposure comp when I’m using 1 flash and fully manual when it’s OCF because I find it wayyyyyyyy easier to control that way. But I know I had the flash at 1/16 power for a lot of details like these! My best advice is to get the camera settings where you like them and have the flash fill and play around with the exposure como from there :) thanks for watching

Awesome job, love the videos. I think a video on knowing how to be in the right place at the right time is a video I would be interested in. Like understanding a timeline and how to get what you need, and how to know when to do it. I’m taking about that internal clock that you have to have on a wedding day to make sure you keep up with the day. Hard to explain but you probably know what I’m talking about.
@Joymichelle

Interesting, I think I know what you're onto. I've found, with that, it's all about experience and really doing it. But I will think about this more and see if this is something I could explain well! Thanks!
@blakethomas432
4 жыл бұрын
Joy Michelle Photography totally understand and agree that experience is key. It’s something that I think about often and struggle with. Hoping it gets easier as I go. Maybe take a basic timeline from a wedding and then explain how you could break it down and try to plan when you would do certain aspects. Or maybe a video on how you approach preparing for a wedding or how you keep up with the photos that you need to capture on the day of. I usually have a check list of photos, a list of the combinations of people for the family stuff, the timeline, and an album with wedding inspiration poses on my phone (just in case I have a creative block during a posing session).
