Cool video. I kinda understand the pressures of the wedding photographer. Robin and I DJ'd weddings years ago and its a lot of pressure. If nobody is out on the dance floor, you start sweating. Its all about making the bride happy. 🙂You are a true professional.

What size umbrellas do you find work well with groups of people like you were using for just the couple as well as the group? Unless you changed sizes or placed them closer vs farther. What speedlights were you using? Seeing as they gave you good power even with the loss of light from an umbrella. Would you say reflecting the light would be better and in that case would it be better to just use the same size softbox?

I do the very same thing, what I'm doing is when shooting at a wide aperture where DOF is critical I go up, focus on the eyes then move my camera down to get the person in the full frame and shoot. I compose first, then move the focusing point up to the eyes or cheek bone, get a confirmation light then move back down and shoot.

I really enjoyed this and I know it took a lot to get it done... Thank you! Are you using 85mm for the pre-ceremony portraits, by chance?

Carrin Lewis I do use the 85mm a lot. Also the 105mm or even the 24-70 if I'm in a rush

Ben Mcmillen thx Ben. So in a wedding reception, church, paparazzi style where subject to flash and light quickly changing use ittl and adjust as needed...and for portraits sessions, group shots use manual flash ?

Which is why we charge so much, one of the hardest photo jobs to do is weddings, to do them properly. Then you have post processing of all the images that could take weeks or a few days, depending on your style. Plus insurance, camera calibration at least twice a year, etc. And also to cover duplicate equipment and lenses if we can afford it in case one breaks down (that they do) and we have to get it repaired.
