WATCH: How the debt ceiling deal changed SNAP eligibility

The debt ceiling deal approved by lawmakers last week includes legislation that changes the eligibility requirements for federal supplement food benefits known as SNAP. The new requirements in the bi-partisan deal required compromise by both sides, with Republicans wanting to make it harder for people to qualify for the program, and Democrats wanting SNAP to cover more people who need it.
Elaine Waxman, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute's’ Income and Benefits Policy Center spoke with PBS NewsHour's digital anchor Nicole Ellis to explain the impact of these changes.
