Washington VS Florida: Exploring The Great Migration & Key Differences | Living In Washington

Are you thinking about moving to Seattle Washington? Let's dive into Washington vs. Florida, exploring the migration trend and key differences today!
Are Washingtonians fleeing to Florida, and is it the right place for you compared to Washington State? In today's video, we delve into this topic. Over the past two years, especially after COVID, many families have moved to Florida, largely influenced by how the state's governor handled the pandemic.
Let's compare Florida and Washington State across five key areas: climate, geography, taxes, cost of living, and culture. Surprisingly, Florida receives more annual rainfall than Washington-59.3 inches compared to Washington's 38 inches. However, Washington experiences longer rainy seasons and fewer sunny days than Florida. While Florida boasts warm beaches and a beach-centric vibe, Washington offers lush greenery, scenic mountains, and a robust outdoor culture. Both states have no personal income tax, but Florida's higher home insurance rates and lower cost of living may influence your decision. Ultimately, whether you're drawn to the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty or Florida's warm climate, we hope to provide valuable insights for your next move.

Inland Florida between Gainesville and Orlando's northern suburbs like Mount Dora is hillier, shadier (more trees), breezier, and less humid than the coasts. A friend who just closed on a house in Cape Coral south of Tampa stopped by yesterday and mentioned how much more comfortable my place in NE Florida (east of Gainesville) is than the one he bought in Cape Coral "where it was 85 degrees and humid at sunup." It is humid and 87 at my place, but pleasant unless you are doing physical labor outside. Another person who WAS doing physical labor outside (as I was) said the same thing. Nevertheless, I keep a summer place in Michigan to escape to in the hottest part of summer. For some reason, I found Atlanta and North Georgia, where I lived 14 years, to have hotter summers than North Florida. I think this is because we almost always have some sort of wind blowing in from the sea in summer to give a hint of cooling, especially in afternoons. But anything from Orlando south is going to be blazing hot, as it is lower elevation and full of humidity boiling out of swamps and shallow lakes.

I personally love gloomy days way more than sunny days here in Washington, the gloomier the cooler, Florida? No thanks.
