Washington’s Lindsey Baum case: Persons of interest lied to investigators

"It was a Friday night about 9:30pm when she left her friend's home, and she was going to walk to her home," said Grays County Sheriff Rick Scott. "Her walk would have taken her about seven, eight blocks to get to her house. She never showed up.” UPDATES: bit.ly/2OrAxie

I’m not judging, however I wouldn’t allow my child to walk home alone at that age. People always think “not in my neighborhood” when in all reality it’s always YOUR neighborhood. Such a sad story!

@Rain L agreed. It's easy to say things like this in hindsight. I remember at about the same age I'd been sent out to look for my brother bc he hadn't come home yet and it was right around dusk. I was on my bike taking to a friend when a car pulled up, spooked me and literally chased me all the way home. I ran into the house screaming and my stepmother might as well not even have acknowledged me at all. Come to think of it, she was an evil woman and probably behind it

Josh Baum, Lindsey Baums older brother, moved in next to me in tumwater wa shortly after her dissapearance. I knew him. He was scary. I was 8 or 9 and he was in his teen years. He seemed to gravitate to me and my friends who were younger. Looking for social acceptance. He was a serious sociopath though. The few times I have had the displeasure of his close encounters. I know I saw evil in those moments. It gives me chills to remember. He admitted to molesting my best friend who was also 8 or 9. He told my mom straight up that he left her behind because she wouldn't shut up. This almost 1o year old girl who was his little sister. He literally admitted to leaving her behind in the dark. She literally camps outside of people's homes and jobs for hours, even days sometimes, repeatedly knocking on doors, while also texting & calling their phones and their relatives phones, all at the same time, and if all of her attempts fail she's even been known to hire a private investigator to hunt them down. She's been threatened by numerous people and has had the cops called on her more than any of the other CWD reporters for refusing to get off their property and stop harassing them. I get irritated just watching! Lol I really don't know how she still has a job.

This show said eight blocks and if you look at the map they presented it's not a short walk. 10 or 11 is very young still to be alone even in daylight but if the information they gave is correct 9:30 PM is usually not daylight. Still teenage girls are abducted on their way to school in the morning broad daylight. It doesn't make a difference day or night or 10 or 11. It's just terribly tragic and so sad that we need to be so cautious with our children and ourselves. Two incidents of attempted rape and kidnapping in the last 4 months in my neighborhood and I live in a neighborhood where the least expensive homes are a million dollars. Not high end mind you just California 1950 track homes but pricey. People think they are safe in nice neighborhoods and nice towns. I bet for the most part she was..just one very evil and sick individual and this happened. So sad.

I agree plus 9:30 at night is WAY too late for a 10yr old to walk 7-8 blocks. My daughter is 14 and she has to be home BEFORE dark (7:30-8) and if she's at her friends down the road she HAS to be walked back home accompanied or she doesn't get to go! My other daughter is 7 and she isn't even allowed out of the yard alone and 9 times out of 10, if she's playing outside then someone from our household is with her. Maybe too overprotective but there are CRAZY creeps in this world and I'll do any and every thing I can to keep them away from my kids.

10 years old and walking home in the night. My niece wasn’t allowed to go the the near supermarket alone to buy candy during the day. It happened once and we all freaked out, she said she went with a friend and started crying. She never did it again because we warned her about the “all people are not good” and the people we say hi to can also be bad. She’s very beautiful and very kind. Now if anyone approaches her in school or asks to go with her they have to provide a save word, the police asked the parents to have a safe word because pedophiles were claiming that “your parents told me to pick you up or your mom is in the hospital I have to bring you there” so because of these incidents police asked all parent then to give the child instructions not to go with anyone that doesn’t know the “password” and scream.

No parent is perfect and there is no manual that says how we should raise our child and I’m not saying she’s a bad parent by any means but since you commented saying what you said I wanted to clarify my comment even though I think I was clear on my opinion of what I do with my children when the play outside. Once a creepy man followed me he jumbed out of his white car and was chasing me I freaked out and went to the nearest house begging them to let me in. It was an old lady's house she let me in and closed the door then called the police. The man vanished without any trace. I told my mom I'll never go to school again. After so many talks and psychologist consultations I went back to school. I remember it as it was yesterday. I'll never allow my child to go out alone. We are in a world full of criminals.

Yes. Statistically, children are much more likely to be harmed/murdered by someone they know. Stranger abductions are actually quite rare. And in this day and age, most children are warned a lot about strangers. So a kid (especially one as old as Lindsey) isn't likely to just willingly go off with a stranger.
