Reminds me of my childhood listening to my Italian great-grandmother. She was a first-generation immigrant in 1916 through Ellis Island. She had a "washing machine," but it was a basin to handwash in with two wooden rollers on the top. The rollers opened up so you could stick the wet clothes between them. Then, you closed the rollers and turned the connected handle to turn the rollers as you pulled the clothes through the other end. Then you dropped the clothes in the basket. After all the clothes were done, you hung the clothes on the clothes line outside. I used to sit and listen and nearly doze off before hearing her grab the hanging bag of clothes pins on her way to the backyard to hang the clothes up. I'd immediately wake up, jump to my feet, and meet her at the back door. Hanging the washed laundry was my favorite! I also loved removing the dry laundry, folding it, and stacking it neatly in the basket. Laundry baskets back then were very large, and they were made from thick wicker, so they were very durable and lasted forever!

That's such an interesting story, Catania. It sounds like you have a great family. Thank you for sharing that. 🤗 My great grandmother was an immigrant from Germany. I don't know if she came in through Ellis Island. I wish I had found out before all my folks passed. 🥹

Wow! Haven't listened to this in a thousand years. My grandma did that before she moved away, and now my mom just uses a laundry machine. When my grandma used to wash the clothes in the bathroom, I just looked and listened to her wash the clothes one by one. Thank you Rebecca 😍😍

I have had a very anxiety-filled and sadness-filled all around bad few days including today and I just wanted something to have lisen to as a background noise, so I looked for no-talking ASMRs and saw you had posted a new video. This video reminded me of my first year of college when I didn't know how to use the washing machine at my aunt's house and I would wash my clothes by hand, in general the years 2017-2018-2019 were years that I miss, I had a form of escaping to my college town, I had hope, and the calmness of doing chores in the quietness of my home at my own pace. Something I knew deep down wouldn't last for long but I want so bad to have again. It was very comforting, so thank you for sharing!

You do sound sad. 😔 I have days to look back on that I wish I could have again. Not a living soul that doesn't. With every fiber of my being, I understand. However, it is incredibly important to move on and make new memories and create new joy. There is a way if we look hard enough. I pray that you find Hope for a brighter day, Vasiliki. 🙏🏻 🤗❤️

My own grandma used to wash clothes by hand herself! It's similar to how you do it here, but she also had that long iron washing plank thing. But as she's getting older, my Dad doesn't allow her to do that anymore for her own health. Things bring back memories! (Of me trying to help with risks; splashing water, holes, and a speed run of overusing the soap)

I think it's the same way here with most new construction. Plain white walls. I think it's to do with making places affordable for people and then otherwise, it's just cutting costs for the construction companies. Also, colorful buildings are not popular right now. My house is old.
