What a great idea. I craft with mostly vintage papers so I could make vintage washi tape, probably the matte side up. You could also just make a whole bunch of strips and store them right on the wax paper. I use cereal bags for everything.

You're going about it the hard way. If you cut the strips and just put the double-sided tape on the plain side then stick it to the parchment paper until you're ready to use it. I store a bunch of it in clear sheet protectors. Even easier just stick the double-sided tape onto the wrong side of the paper then cut the strips and store the strips on parchment paper in sheet protectors

Very interesting technique! I taught diy washi tape technique years ago [in U S] when washi tape was first introduced. Instead of using pattern paper, in my workshop, I taught stamping on all different types of tapes. It's also fun to use your own diy carved stamps for a unique look. As an alternative, my fave base tape for stamping is Scotch Removable because it is so low-tack, just like store-bought washi. Next fave is Scotch Magic permanent, because of its translucency. In addition, I like to stamp onto clear packing tape [see video by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer], and clear or white medical tape. If you also like pops of white background, it's interesting to stamp on Post-it correction tape, too! I prefer the wider size. DIna Wakely also makes a good solid color [white] base tape - but it's a tad more opaque than Scotch tapes - and hers has a slightly rougher texture. I use Avery return address labels as diy washi stickers - but these are white not clear. For clear sheets of sticker paper I use full sheet clear shipping labels for the office supply store - 10 sheets per package, but not cheap. These sheets are easy to cut in strips with scissors. TO use with a die cutting machine, try stamping images with some kind of outline. Or use a black permanent/sharpie marker to outline the images. Always test and experiment first! Regarding Masking tape, due to it's extreme tackiness, I don't use/adhere Masking tape as the base for diy washi. Instead, when I use it, I prefer to adhere Masking tape directly to the paper/page/base. [US masking tape is like using E6000 to cement something to paper - not suitable for diy washi [i.e. low-tack tape], IMO.] Making diy washi is S-O much fun - as was teaching how to make it, too! tfs!

Washi Tape is a type of paper (or sometimes fabric) tape that has different designs,colors,textures...used in scrapbooking, journals, planners, mixed media projects, etc. It usually comes in a roll, like a duct tape, but they can be very thin to 2 or sometimes 3 inches. Nowadays there are many "designer", beautiful washi tapes...it's actually out of control, lol. I hope that was helpful :D

Have you ever tried putting strips of paper tape from the first aid section down on parchment or and old empty printable sticker sheet back and print the designs on them with the printer?

The whole point of washi tape is that it's recyclable and doesn't really damage what is put on, like masking tape. Double sided tape is very difficult to get off things and your shiny top layer makes it unrecyclable. You could call this washi effect tape but it isn't washi tape.

  • @coconoodle9498

Just buy washi tape, which is probably cheaper than having to buy two different types of tape and patterned paper. Life is too short for this amount of faffing around, sorry. Xx

  • @mizfrog4776

What you are making is NOT washi tape. It's just a decorative type of tape. Washi tape is made from real Japanese washi paper. If it's not made with washi paper, it's not washi tape.
