My favorite paint pallette for decades - a plain white corelle plate. Oil paint will clean off easily and acrylics can dry completely and a quick soak in warm water only will allow the paint to just peel off.

You can also use it to clean up paint spilled on carpet--that is, assuming you've spilled one of the 2 oz bottles of decorative paint. I know this because my dog got into my paints and took a burnt orange bottle downstairs to our pale grey carpet and bit down on it squirting a burnt orange puddle onto the carpet. I used paper towels to get up as much paint as I could and then hit it with lots of hand sanitizer, wiping it with more paper towels and repeating until I got it all out, then cold water to remove the sanitizer. Yes, you have to be careful because it might lighten the color of the carpet but my thought was it couldn't be worse than a puddle of burnt orange. It also works on clothing if you clean it up while still wet. (we decorative painters find paint in the oddest places--shirt fronts, laps, elbows, hair).

An old teacher’s hack for removing permanent marker is to keep a can of cheap hairspray on hand. Cleans up with a soft cloth. Works on white boards, desks, even SKIN!

That dry erase marker hack = 🤯 I normally use hand sanitizer because it tends to dissolve the alcohol-based ink of a sharpie, but that can damage the dry erase board over time. Totally just tested it successfully. I am amazed!

Paint palettes - plastic bottles such as soda are perfect for throw away palettes because they have 4 or 5 ready-made compartments at the bottom. Just cut the bottoms off and recycle the rest. Also those plastic lids - let the paint dry on the lid and it will peel off in a single piece. If the pieces are large enough or the paint is running together, you can cut into a shape and use it as "fake leather" adornments in your junk journal or other craft.

I had a plastic tube of adhesive OPEN on the seam. I SIMPLY DUCT TAPED the seam, THEN PVC electrical taped that DUCT TAPE. And I will NOT buy that big tube size AGAIN! ALSO, to help roll up tubes, I have made a 12×12 mm wood with a sawn slit in it, SLIDE that on the tubes end, as soon as you have squeezed out some product. On ONE END of that wood, I glued a handle, and I "crank" the product out of the tube, NEVER leaving the tube partially filled, FROM the very beginning. Hope that helps, philip from the Great Pacific NorthWET Oregon Division USA

No to the "store and clean your brushes" in the parmesan container, never soak your brushes in water, the water will get inside the ferule and destroy the bonding agent that keeps your bristles in place, destroying your brushes.

I was wondering if someone was going to catch that. If you have several brushes that you are cleaning at the same time, that's a nice little bathtub for them, so to speak, but you are correct, never store them like that. The same goes for storing them brush up before they are dry. 😉

As soon as I saw that "tip" my eyes shot open as I yelled NOOOOOOOO! Never, Ever, Never leave your brushes in water--wash them, squeeze the water out of the bristles, and position them brush side DOWN while they dry. It's good to take a dry brush and wet it really well and towel-pat it prior to painting with it, just never leave a brush soaking in water.

Thank you for sharing some great ideas! I would caution you about the paintbrushes left in water, in any jar, especially high quality brushes. Leaving them in a jar will bend the tips; leaving them in water may loosen the ferrule and/or ruin the wood and paint - either of these things will ruin your brushes. I use The Masters brush cleaner to clean my brushes, rinse them and put a little more of The Masters in the brush, shape the tip and lie it flat to dry. The Masters is a brush preserver as well as a cleaner. Always let brushes dry flat or hanging down - you don’t want water staying in the ferrule.

Cleaning the brush was my favorite. I recently saw that I my brush with Modge Podge was left out overnight and hardened so badly. Not a single bend to it. I figured the hot heat from my hair dryer should melt the glue, it did, but took a while. The hardest area is the clumping near the area connected to the handle. I ran a razor through it vertically and horizontally to help loosen it. I lost some fibers but it did help. Soaking it in boiling water didn’t help at all. So now I’ll try the sanitizer after the heat and see how that works. Great tip.

Agreed! I made the mistake of doing this and when I wanted to paint again, the brush and metal pieces slipped right off the handle! I also wanted to add a tip I've found throughout the years, if you add a bit of Murphys oil soap (cleaner made for hardwood floors) to your brush cleaning water before storage, your brushes will stay nicely conditioned and soft! I've also had success using that method to restore old crusty brushes that have been forgotten, unwashed and left for dead lmfao good luck!

If you really care about your paint brushes, you will ruin them using that jar and letting them sit there. If it was just for a minute or two you might be alright, but longer than that and you’re taking a chance on putting a permanent bend in an otherwise good brush. It will destroy the bristles. That was the first thing I learned about brush care in art class.
