Just replaced the rotor position sensor. Would not spin right away. Had to clear codes, by holding down soil button for 3 second, releasing for 3 seconds, holding for 3 seconds, releasing for 3 seconds, and then holding again. Washer started working right away.

This video was extremely helpful! I had a F51 code on my machine. FIRST took the tub out to see if there was a sock or other obstruction, then i ordered a new sensor. Working alone... the project took me under an hour (total cost =$35)

I've noticed Whirlpool washer WTW4816FW2 when on a full load of water and laundry can become sitted on the floor or scape the floor if it's legs aren't adjusted. To allow clearance. I noticed this with back panel off while testing after servicing. Note: the legs on this model are only manually adjustable. I've seen similar issues on GEs with similar motors in years passed. Some haveba a pan on the bottom. The pan can become bent and the bottom pulley will strike or even stop turning.

great video. Make some steps seem easy but overall, the methods and recommendations work great. The seal insertion is the most difficult. They make it seem so easy. It fights back - buy the chunk of PVC in the video if you can. Saved me buying a new washer when the repair guys would not come and fix it - too many issues with call backs.

replaced the RPS. still getting F-54 error code. If the motor stater is cracked, would this prevent the new RPS from working properly?

  • @michaeldaniels2278

I keep getting the f51 area code after I put my washer back together after replacing the entire bearing kit with the driveshaft. One of the clips that holds the RPS in place broke off, but would that really be enough to throw the code? The sensor is still attached firmly to the stator, it’s just missing the far left clip. Should I just buy a new one and replace the sensor? Because everything else is put together to a TEE of how these guys describe things, which is done immaculately if I must say.

Will a loose rotor cause a slow spin? Not sure why I have no response to my question. Gonna try again with a different question. Will a bad rps sensor cause a Cabrio top loader to quit counting down at 17 and just keep spinning?

these direct drive motors are supposed to be so great..... they are nothing but trouble having to replace components, stripped splines on the rotor, cracked plastic parts that are marked up 300% of how much it is to make them

How do you test the old RPS? I read something about resistance checks between the pins, but I don’t know the values you should read with an ohmmeter. I am reading open circuit between any and all of the pins on the RPS which I think is kind of weird. I thought I would see at least something. So I am going on the assumption that the RPS is bad since I am reading open on the pins. Hope I am correct. Any info I’d appreciated.

  • @appliancepartspros

I feel like if that were the case it would stop spinning altogether. That sounds like a control board/timer issue.

Diagnosing the sensor as the problem would be more helpful. My GE washer says "motor not rotating properly" and will not work. There is no algorithm to diagnose the problem.

@@appliancepartspros WPGT9350COWW. After spending a lot of time on this, I think it's the inverter, and I've ordered a replacement. It's supposed to put out 12VDC to the rotor position sensor from 2 circuits, but I found 3V from one and 16V from another. So, even though the service diagnostic mode is not faulting the inverter, this voltage was way off, so I'm hoping that replacing the inverter fixes it. The motor looked OK, and the resistance at its terminals were within spec. The rotor sensor didn't look abnormal, but since it wasn't getting specified voltage, I can't say whether it's functioning correctly. Any comments? Thanks

had the error - failed to connect the 3 pin white connector correctly. Really hard to seat it right. Code means the tub is not turning. Only failure mode is bad connection or bad sensor mounting. Verify tub rotates prior to power to verify no binding. Took 5 minutes to drop housing, verify connections were tight and reinstall with locktight.
