Thank you. Reminder to everyone, especially if working by yourself, make sure you clip the new rods on the frame before lifting the washer upright (as a "friend" did). The whole tub, surround and motor will be sitting on the ground with the rods 6 inches from where you need them. I......I mean my friend, was very peeved with himself.

You can also use one of the old rods to hook the top of the new rod to pull it through the top. Just slide the old rod hook end through the socket hole, connect the top of the new rod hook end to the old one and lift up on the old rod to pull the new one through the socket hole.

Great video! Thanks for sharing! I have a Roper washer that needs new suspension rods put in! My washer shakes like it's possessed! I know the neighbor lady next door probably gets ticked off at all the noise my washer makes, especially late at night. In a week from now, i will buy the rods to repair the issue and exorcise the demons! 😜

Great video, I tried the steps myself and so far I'm still getting the UL unbalanced load but I did notice my machine is running better. For the cost and the experience to fix something I never knew how this was a challenge. Like some comments have mentioned it was not easy lifting the balance rods. So it takes some patience. Hey if I can do it anyone else can. Update, I reset my washing machine after get the UL error again again I did this change. After the reset my machine has been working fine so far. Thanks for this video

Great video. Thank you for sharing. I installed them with help form my son. I would pull up on the suspension rod and he would place the plastic bearing. I struggled a bit since the new rods have so much tension. I used an old suspension rod hook to get leverage and pull the suspension rod through the hole. This actually made it easier. Although it was a bit challenging, your video was perfect plus it feels rewarding knowing that I installed them myself. Much appreciated.

I found replacing suspensions one by one much much more easier than taking off four at the same time. It may sound harder to take off one of the suspensions and tilting washer down, getting old one underneath and putting new one. When you put new one put some duct tape buttom of new suspension, it will help not to damage neither your floor as well as suspension will not get damaged. If you replace 4 of them same time you will definitely need one more person at least to lift up drum but if you do one by one it should not take any longer than 45 min for one person. Also very nice tip - use the head of old suspension to hang to the new one and lift up. It will be twice more effective and will save your arm get cut and etc. Good luck with your repair!

The method in the video requires lifting the rods high enough to insert the top retainer while the washer is upright. As others have mentioned, this can be quite difficult, usually a second person must lift the tub while you insert the retainer. It's hard to get such a good grip on the rods. So I found a much easier way. Simply tilt the washer and lay it down ON ONE SIDE, NOT ON THE BACK. Then remove the two screws in the back and tilt out the top as shown, but it will be sideways so no need for a lanyard, no chance for the top to come crashing down on you either, so this is much safer as well. Now you get access to all the rods with no weight on them, so you can remove and replace them completely while the washer is sideways.

I got one of the old rods out, then once the new rod was in place, i used the old rod through the bearing hole, to hook the new rod and used the old rod to pull the new rod through the hole high enough to to put the bearing on. Then once the bearing was lined up properly with the new rod hook, i wiggled out the old rod.

I used a insulation wire hanger. I bent the end into a small hook to reach the suspension rod top hook and the top of the insulation into a larger hook to grip. Put thru hole of washer where rod goes. Then slid on top rod cap slot then twisted into position and lowered.

Yeah, this is simple and cheap, however be forewarned that there's another failure that can cause these symptoms that are seldom discussed in any of these videos and that's a Stator that has cracks in it. Maytag and Whirlpool washers with direct drive motors seem to have this defect. Like many I did this repair and the washer continued its violent shaking. Then I did the bearings and seal...same thing... Wifey is now discouraged and pizzed. When I did the bearings and seal I noticed a few cracks in the stator housing. I read one or two posts on google regarding this but was skeptical that this could be the cause of the violent shaking and was reluctant to spend $200+ for a new stator if it didn't fix the problem. I removed the stator and placed it in an oven @275F for an hour to open the cracks up and afterwards used epoxy (loctite 9462) to fill the cracks when still hot. I then placed a band clamp around the stator to pull it together and let it set for 12 hours+. Wala, the washer ran like new. No shaking. This is a temporary fix and have since replaced the stator with a new one on amazon. All is right in the world now (wifey is happy again😏)!

  • @2010Sanctuary

Excellent video, but, I do have to share that if you are female of smaller build, the weight of the washer drum is considerable to be lifting with one hand and arm, pulling up from a single rod. I lift, with two arms, a max of 40-42#'s, but, this was really difficult. The springs do not give that much, and it requires a significant amount of upper body strength and brawn, to attach these. It took me longer than expected, and really would have been better with an extra arm and hand. This guy makes it look easy, but, it was not as easy with my older machine, and my strength level. The new plastic bearings were very thinly made and would not snap on easily. Again a little more brawn to pull the rods up further would have made that easier, but, I liked the older bearings far better, as the plastic was much sturdier.

You're not kidding! I'm a man but those rods can be a bear to pull up since they are what hold all the weight of the drum, and a bit dangerous because you don't want one of those suspension rod hooks catching on your hand or arm if it slips with all that weight pulling down on it. It's much easier after the first front suspension hook is seated to the do the last three, at least for me. I needed to ask my mom to pop on the first suspension ball while I held up the weight pulling up on the suspension rod because it was tricky. I found it was much easier holding on to the slippery rods while wearing gloves with rubber grips.

Excellent video! I have one suggestion. When lifting each rod to install the new bearing, I found I couldn't grip the rod tight enough and it would slip down before I could get the bearing on with my other hand. Using a rubber glove on the hand holding up the rod allowed enough grip to get the bearing on.

Although the sequence is perfect, lifting the first rod with one hand is simply not possible unless you do some serious weight lifting or have a second pair of hands to help you. Thanks for showing the step by step video of how to replace the suspension rod. My question is how I know if this is the problem with my washer. It can still dry the clothes very well and does not make unbalance sounds or rock the entire machine. However, when the machine is working, it makes loud sound especially when spinning. So, is this a suspension rod issue? I thank you in advance for answering my question.

Model WTW5000DW1 Problem Excessive shaking n banging while in spin cycle It has 2 suspension rods with green caps and 2 with white caps. Are they perhaps the wrong one? If they're correct, which ones go where? Purchased used. Replaced with revised hub kit and recalibrate d. Shaking is better bit still some excessive. Leveled and repositioned laundry. Are there supposed to be a short spring attached to each corner of liner cap and the other end around the suspension rod. I only see 2. Not seeing the on your parts diagram.

It is possible one or two of the rods failed and were replaced instead of replacing all of them. Unfortunately, there isn't a way for us to tell that. The correct suspension rod for your model is part number W11130362. I'm not seeing any other springs listed for this model. You can buy damping grease and add it to the rods where the bushing slides on it (top of spring). I'm surprised so few of these washer repair videos mentions damping grease. When washer starts spinning, and gets up to a certain RPM with heavy load even slightly out of balance the combination of springs and load will be in resonance and the drum can fly way off center. Damping grease helps prevent this. New rods come with some grease on them but I'm not convinced it is optimized for heavy loads.
