I remember getting this game for my birthday when I was younger and beating it all in a single sitting and being like wait, that was it? Seriously? Truly an unfortunate thing.

I had a similar experience the night I got it, except I decided to stop playing when I reached the Vader bossfight so my dad (who had bought it for me) wouldn't find out how short the new $60 game was. I'd had a wonderful memory of walking home from school the day after the release of the first game, eager to pick up where I left off at the Cloud City level and with the new lightsaber throw ability... walking home to finish the last (terrible) boss fight of the sequel was just a bummer.

Same, my dude! I believe I pre-ordered and played it that night, finishing it 4 hours later and couldn't remember what I played or what was happening. So disappointing! I'd love to see Starkiller get a movie or show. Just take the first game and rewrite the second and bam.

This game is one of my Guilty Pleasures. I know it’s bad. Short and repetitive. But I discovered this game when I was recovering from a Brain Injury. I felt relatable with the clone with his searching for identity. I had to rediscover myself too. The flash backs the clone experienced were similar to what I experienced. I know it’s bad but I have a soft spot for me. Soft Spot aside, I did a little bit of research about this game. The Developers were only given 1 year to make the game from the Publishers. The Developers warned that without more time the game would turn out bad. The Publishers didn’t listen and only gave them 1 year. So they were forced to copy and paste so many assets to save time.

i like it too man

this game was definitely way too short but I had a blast playing this as a kid. going back to locations in the movies like kamino, Cato neomodia, and dagobah was completely unexpected. Despite its flaws I actually thought gameplay was superior to its predecessor, and loved how they added decapitation. I still think the graphics and art design is some of the best we have ever seen in a Star Wars game or games in general. but goddamn those droids you had to fight on the ship were such a pain in the ass.

I think the combat itself is a step up from the original in terms of the saber and force abilities and attacking enemies... what lets that down is the lack of any variety in enemies which is such a big part of the combat experience. But I did like the added lightsaber damage shown, makes it feel like... well a lightsaber 😂

@@MayorHairBear totally agree about lack of enemy variety. It’s been a min since I played the game but I know to defeat a robot you hit ‘em with a few saber/lightning combos then tap A a couple times and watch them die in a particular animation, then you do that over and over again.

I would agree for the force abilities but in terms of light saber combos not much was added just you can spam the light saber and lightning combo again and win for most of the time . It felt a bit faster and less clunky but didn't really improve too much on it

@@MayorHairBear you know what man, I replayed the 2nd game and it fucking sucks. I take back everything I said except for revisiting planets from the movies. A truly awful game. I replayed the 1st game and it still slaps, dlc is really fun too. it's not perfect but it is a masterpiece when put up against it's sequel.

my main problem with this game is the lack of varity. If you choose the dark side ending they unveil an evil starkiller clone. Vader's perfect apperntice and yet we can't fight him.

@@MayorHairBear Instead of the stale choice between sides it would have been cool if after defeating vader the next foe would be the evil clone from the dark side ending. If you win you'd get the light side ending but if you lose you get the dark side one.

Great little video! Genuinely one of the most disappointing games I’ve ever played. I remember buying the collectors edition and being in disbelief after finishing the game in 3 hours. Also, something you didn’t mention in your review was the addition of decapitation in this game, one of the few things which was an improvement over the first game which made your saber not feel like a cricket bat. Apparently the way lucasarts got around this with the esrb was by implying to them that the stormtroopers were robots… allegedly.

Glad you enjoyed the video mate, and absolutely this has to be one of my most disappointing games as well. The disbelief was so strong 😂I did forget to mention that and it's a great inclusion that too few star wars games utilise!

This was the first game I ever obsessed over (the next one was Arkham city, and the one after that was assassins creed 3, then transformers fall of cybertron). I ended up getting it on the wii, getting stuck at the end where there’s a bunch of cement droid. I came back to it a couple years later to try to finish it, only to realize the next part was the final Vader fight lol. I thought there would be a lot more but…

When I revisited it a few years back, I thought that I would have a better time since I knew going in how short the game was. But no, just like you said, a barely 4 hours game and it still feels like over half of it is padding. After all these years I finally understood that the length of this game is not a downside, but the best thing it has going for it

Very well said mate, you're spot on!

The unfortunate thing with The Force Unleashed II is the graphics got a really nice boost, the lightsaber mechanics are greatly improved especially with dismemberment, and the controls in general feel smoother and I found myself Force gripping something I didn't intend to far less often. On a moment to moment level, it's a textbook sequel. The only downgrade I found is Force Lightning didn't stunlock enemies as much, so bigger enemies often shot me down while I was trying to lightning them. So I just used charged saberthrow instead which worked fine. The problem is LucasArts only had 10 months to develop the full game, hence why it's so short, the game's levels are so repetitive, and the story is so rushed and ends on an unsatisfying cliffhanger that'll never be resolved. Man, what I wonder how the game would've been had the developers been given a proper amount of time to develop. Would've been an excellent sequel.

The only thing that I still like about this game is that it’s one of the only Starwar games where your lightsaber actually cuts through peoples body it really does add to the fantasy of welding a lightsaber. I wish the new Fallen order games did this but stupid Disney.

Actually in fallen order the only enemies that you don't dismember are the human ones. animals and droids do get dismembered.

There is a code in Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast that allows for "realistic saber combat". Which essentially means every hit from a lightsaber is a one hit kill and whichever limb you hit will come off.

The only excuse for four-hour experiences, in my opinion, are story-driven games like What Remains of Edith Finch and Firewatch or experimental minimalistic games that rely on a few mechanics like Journey, Portal, Inside, Papers Please, etc. Otherwise, no game has enough time to introduce, iterate and build on its foundation in four hours.

How about the fact the devs were told to make everything in a year despite their objections to it because they said it wouldn’t turn out well? Publisher didn’t care, and for a game made in a year, then it isn’t that bad.

I can tell you really didn't like this game and wanted to be done with it from the length of the video alone.

Yeah I tried going into my usual in depth retrospectives but about half way through scripting I just thought "this game ain't worth it!"

I have to say, despite this video's overall negative depiction of the game, I still think that most if not all of the criticisms are at the very least justified and agreeable compared to another video which is called "The Force Unleashed 2 is a whole lot of AWFULL" and was fixed on completely redundant things and arguments, which weren't even backed up properly and in times even completely false. I completely agree on the story department. Really interesting concept which is butchered by the whole "Juno" focus. This isn't a big surprise though if one consideres that the writer had merely 3 weeks to write the story. The gameplay department, in my eyes, is the biggest improvement especially in comparison with the predecessor, at least in terms of mechanics. The forcepowers got rebalanced in a way, that force lightning doesn't become THE force power to use, combos flow much better especially the lightning ones, better transitions from ground to air combos, grapples received a buff in comparison to the predecessor, where they were practically useless, bigger enemies aren't as annoying as in the predecessor especially since you activate QTEs with A instead of X, which could be completely bypassed without restricting your options to destroy them (which is a good thing) and generally a good amount of different ways to deal with certain enemies like deflecting rockets or even lightsabers. Though it is understandable that the repetitive level design, enemy encounters and lack of level variety and overall lenght of the game can heavily detract from the enjoyment of the game. TL,DR: Good Video despite a few disagreements on my part.

I absolutely loved The Force unleashed 2 and from what I remember it improved on the original in almost every way. The game was sadly rushed and was actually only half of the original Game it was intended to be haha. It was all Disney bacause they shit down all game production when they got their hands on Lucas Games. Great video though man.

I've always loved this game honestly. I know the story and short runtime was disappointing for a lot of people. but the power trip fantasy that this lets you go on is just so much fun.

This seems to be a common trend when it comes to good, licensed games. There was Unleashed 1 and 2, Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron, the Harry Potter games, they all started out with so much potential, releasing great games, but then the company overseeing the project and somehow managed to mess it all up. I'm not saying Force Unleashed weren't flawed, both were, but you can see the love the creators had for the property. And to have it end like this is such a shame and a waste. I'm at least glad we got Fallen Order, and I hope the upcoming sequel will give fans even more of what they love.

@@shinbakihanma2749 I'm most talking from the developers pov. Both Cybertron games were great, but during that time they were thrown onto Transformer projects that were given worse development times and less of a budget, so it didn't exactly help their reputation.

When the game came out in 2010 I was also pretty disappointed like this was what I was hyped for for like a year. I recently replayed both force unleashed games myself and while I had a blast with the first game and it's dlc I could only get through the first 2 levels of tfu2's story before I got bored and just skipped ahead to the endor dlc

As a kid I felt like I had played the game equivalent of a bad Disney straight to dvd sequel. Not offended, just deflated and disappointed. The only things I remember are the opening and ending cut scenes, which were interesting.

After all these years I still want to have 55 euros back from my launch day purchase.

I was the exact same way, I was 13 at the time easy to please and even I was like... is there more? That can't be it right? Such a disappointing feeling

Despite the sequel’s shortcomings, it holds a special place in my heart for nostalgia sake. I loved the first game and still do. I still consider the first game canon, as I much prefer it’s origin story of the Rebellion to the current canon origin

Yet for some reason... I played this on repeat constantly as a kid

I actually really enjoy this game. I think it’s because it’s more loaded with nostalgia than the first game for me. I understand what everyone means with the critique, but I still think it’s an enjoyable game. Short, but fun.

When even the DS games was worse and rushed you know this series was doomed... Sad to see hype around it only to the have the real deal being nothing more than a repetitive and rushed product

I only played the force unleash one as a kid. So when I replayed Force unleashed and went right into Force unleash 2 you could really see how rushed it is.... I never pick the bad side and video games but this game was so frustrating I immediately went for The dark side without hesitation because I was so annoyed by the end of it.

I remember when I played through FU2 for the first time and thought I was only halfway through until I got to the end and thought "Is that it?"

I remember getting this game thinking it’s a full campaign of the first game’s Lord of the Sith dlc. Man…after I beat the game I ran faster to the Light Side (away from the game) as fast as the Force could push me! 😭

I personally love both games about equally. Yes the second is very short but I love it. I see it’s flaws but I don’t think it’s game breaking

One thing you can’t take away from this game series is that it’s true to its name. Name me one Star Wars game where you feel This powerful in the force?

I got this game either free or for like $5 thanks to Xbox live gold a year or so ago and I can say that I enjoyed it whole heartily but that’s after I went in knowing it’d be bad and having spent basically nothing for it if I had bought it at retail when it first game out I’d probably hate it more than anakin hates sand

l really enjoy these analyses, nice depths :) For ideas there's Metal Gear Solid 1& 3, Resident Evil 4 and if you want a real hidden gem: Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi.

I first played the demo on my xbox, which was a much better version of the first kamino level. When I finally played the full game I was shocked that they skipped several parts I remembered from that demo, and downgraded the graphics and enemy behavior

I kind of consider this a guilty pleasure, i wish it was better but atleast we got a sequeal

Just finished this game tonight. It took me 4 hours. Everything you said about gameplay is on point. It feels way too repetitive, no variety of any sort, the environments weren't super interesting, the layouts were very repetitive and your comment about how it just feels like going through a wave of enemies until you reach the end couldn't be truer. However the biggest Issue I had with the game wasn't any of those, it wasn't even the story. It was probably the fact that there were no good duels like in the first game. Yes, you had Darth Vader, but that dragged on for way too long and honestly felt massively underwhelming, he just stood there and spammed minions while blocking your attacks and made no effort in attacking you. The whole game felt underwhelming, in fact. At almost no point did I die except for maybe falling out of the map or being caught in some machinery that insta-killed me. Also fuck Gorog, that shit was whack.

The thing is the game's lead writer, Hayden Blackman didn't want to write Starkiller anymore after the first game because his arc was already completed and didn't need to continue. Actually, I heard The Force Unleashed 2 was originally planned to have Yoda as the main character or something like that! Despite that the story had an interesting concept of cloning Jedi, It's disappointing because Starkiller is one of my favorite Star Wars characters and this game kinda butchered him by undoing his sacrifice, whether it's a clone or not. One could argue Avengers: Endgame did something similar to the snap in Infinity War. But the difference is when Thanos killed half the universe, it felt like a devastating cliffhanger that we wanted to be resolved. So when everyone was revived, it was like having everything back that was taken from us. With this game, despite bringing back Starkiller, feels more like it invalidates his purpose and undoes the emotion from the first game. Odd comparison, I know. Just thought it was necessary to discuss.

The best part was the Guybrush Threepwood character skin.

It was OK and short like you said back in 2010. At 20, it was my first time being let down by a game.

The biggest issue I have with this game is the massive file size it takes up on my computer

I haven't played SW FU1 and 2 in ten years I think now. The thing is that as a child I thought FU2 to be way better than the first one

I did enjoy the game, but since I played the Wii version, I was used to some games just straight up have cut content, so my expectations were lowered by default. I do admit the QTE/Cinematics looked really good in the Wii, at least for me. I also find it... Weird?, that it had an offline multiplayer mode, I can't remember which one, but one of tbe characters was really broken. Aside of that, I cant really remember a whole lot, and maybe, thats for the best

This game was 2000% rushed. The writer wrote the first over the span of a year and a half+. The first was such a success that they wanted a sequel 5 minutes later. And sadly, this is what we got. A 5 hour campaign.

No the endor dlc kicks off from a different timeline, it takes place after the evil ending of the force unleashed 2, with the evil clone. It’s disconnected from the first games alternate ending.

Man only if they Put more variety on the enemies and expanded the playtime so the story could be told The game could've been great and it had the story to do so. but Disney came in and messed it all up.

This game to me is just good old-fashioned dumb Star wars fun. It's by no means on the same level as the first game and that's sad, and yes the story just falls short so badly. It just wasn't in the cards for it. I can still enjoy it but it's not as good as it could have been

This game foreshadowed the disasterous Disney years.

I never got around to finishing this game, but I did enjoy it despite how not great it is.

Can't say I'm usually first but.. Another banger video.

this game has sort of the same plot as the Shadow the Hedgehog game and both are disappointing direct sequels to games I love (force unleashed 1 and sonic adventure 2 respectively)

The wii version is better but it's still trash, neither game got DLC and to top it off ps and xbox got a comic strip that revieled the darkside ending was cannon (I presume as an add on after disney took over) but the wii didn't so you were left wondering, atleast we now know that Starkiller is the clone and it means that Galen's story ends in swtfu 1, thank god

I'd say the devil may cry series is a good example of the case you're making. The first one was good if just for laying the ground work alone. The second just completely dropping the ball being universally ignored in the series, with the third one really knocking it out of the park taking the the cool concepts from the first and cranking it up to 11.

I was very hyped for the game after the Gorog Trailer but it was a big let down. The enemy and level design, the length, the boss fights and story were all so hollow and boring. The lack of diversity disappointed me the most. What made the first game so replayable was the different level designs with all their respective encounters. You actually felt like you were exploring the universe. This game should have been a bigger DLC for half the price. Cut the unnecessary bullshit and just give us three nice levels with new combat and a little story and it would have been fine but this game simply doesn't have the scope and content to fill the frame of a full priced independent game.

These are by far the best star wars games made

The game was to short and the bosses were annoying but the combat was fun
