The early separation was a blessing in disguise, even if we didn’t separate in 1965, we would eventually…meritocracy and bumiputera policies are like water and oil, can never work together…

A very detailed of what had happened on that year whole of Aug 1965. And why Singapore and Malaysia history differs and contradicts each other. Thanks a lot Admin. Much appreciated. 👍

Again, thanks for commenting! Among other things, this video highlights the hard work Lee put in to make sure racial riots didn't break out. Not just in Singapore, but in Malaysia.

Singapore was booted out because of the late LKY's vision of a Malaysian Malaysia. Look at what is happening across the causeway and Singaporeans will be blessed that we separated.

I presume the late LKY was a highly ambitious man n foresee that he could make a prosperous Malaysia with its many natural resources n a robust force in S.E.A. or even Asia n probably lead Malaysia as their PM ......n surely almarhum T.A.R. n his cabinet could sense that , n moreover the malays in general that time was disadvantage in many ways although both were equally poor the chinese were studious in pursuing wealth unlike our malays counterparts whom were more contented with easy lifestyle n syukor as a religious people . We chinese should read the Malay Delima by Tun Mahathir to understand why the Malays feel bad or unhappy with chinese success....n u can't blame them cos vice versa if we were in their shoes we probably would behave the same. Anyway fast fwd I think we should all thanks heaven for the separation cos God knows best but we must also understand that Singapore must help its poor neighbours cos it will be like staying in a bungalow house surrounded by poor settlers .....( many unpleasantness) or having well confined neighbourhood. I see huge volumes of malays now working in Singapore n I feel its good cos it will opens their minds but at the same time we must be careful cos we don't want ant Dick Tom n Harry to come n infest or corrupt our little red dots. Be blessed.

Tengku knows his people, especially the Malays, very well. The separation is required if racial riots are to be avoided. Fortunately for Singapore the Tengku prevails over LKY's ambition.

The historical facts thought in Schools in Malaysia for example is very rulling elite centric and the politics of the day reflected the point of the rulling institutions alone. It remains true to this very day. It doesnt account for a complete picture that allows questions like Singapore leaving voluntarily or otherwise to be critically and objectively looked at.

LKY was too aggressive in his ideals in Malaysia. He could have taken the time to understand the landscape there first, before trying to pull something major. At the end of the day, Malaya and Singapore are different, especially during that time. It's like comparing HK and China. I would think the Malaysia urban areas and Singapore are more alike now, but, LKY was too inpatient if not, SG would still be in MY. Actually, if Chin Chye was SG PM, I think he would have handled it differently with Malaysia and would still be in Malaysia.

It’s fortunate that Singapore left Malaysia or vice versa. Singapore has become a state of admiration globally. Singapore has become a model state with its riches derived from good governance unlike Malaysia. You have people with credibility, intelligence, integrity, charisma & respect. In Malaysia, majority are “sampah”.

There was an alternate possibility that could have most probably taken shape too had Singapore stayed for a little while longer. All 3 Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak leaving the Malaysia federation. Would the 3 formed a federation of their own is debatable but Sabah and Sarawak would have left if they had the backing of Sg politicians
