The biggest complaint I hear about this knife is due to its light weight, and that's the very reason I purchased it. In the category of a feather weight knife, none compares.

I just bought that same knife a couple days ago. I have fired it about 200 times since then, and mine doesn't have nearly that amount of blade play. I'd say at least 50% less. And that's a conservative estimate

I think the most useful OTF blade profile is MTs Spartan, basically two Tantos. If you’re going to carry an OTF it might as well have the most cutting edge length possible… have you checked out the Kershaw Livewire yet?

@archerytag my assessment of this knife was based against industry standards, the cost of the knife and of course my opinion given experience handling knives that ive had ..by no means am I saying it isn't a good tool, but I do think that benchmades quality to value ratio has declined with the retirement of the original business owner and I do think that there are better values for your money in the otf world...but that is my opinion, if it was worth it to you and you like it that is all that truly matters! Thanks for dropping by 🙌🍻

I think the question is, with the Butterfly tax, isn't Benchmade really inviting harsh judgement upon themselves? How about pretending that plastic is a high end handle material? I could go on but you get where I am going with this.

First, thank you for watching my content, I aim to entertain by offering my opinion and sometimes offer helpful insightful info that is useful to others. That said, if legitimate benchmade knives could he purchased for 50$ the community would not be in an uproar about benchmades ever rising prices.. so honest question for you, which do you think is more likely, that you found the one legitimate benchmade shootout at a 6th of the regular price..or that you purchased a knockoff?...some people are very happy with knockoffs and you might be as well, that said the knife I reviewed was a legitimate Shootout, so if you purchased a knockoff you did not purchase the knife I reviewed and will not have the same experience regardless since while it was made to look like a benchmade Shootout it is most definitely not the same materials or craftsmanship.. Finally, as far as OTF knives are concerned the Shootout is a decent knife, the issue I have comes from looking at it through the lense of a $300 price tag..If legitimate benchmade shootouts could be had for $50 it would be the best value for an American made OTF in the history of OTF knives.

If im going to make a review on any product or tool i think i would talk about what it was built for….cutting right? What a sharpness / edge retention test and ease of sharpening instead of just talking about blade steel like its just some talking point. Otherwise try finding a decent OTF for around 300 bucks and i think you will find its nearly impossible. Btw…axial is the same price and is out of stock. I would place this knife in a category of will I actually use this verses becoming a safe queen. For me the answer is yes i will EDC this and i wont be afraid to abuse and resharpen it. Too many knife reviews today are nothing more that table talks without much evidence or action. Otherwise you seem knowledgeable

Hey thanks for watching! I wanted to address some of your comments because you took the time to watch and write them..for 1 sharpness and edge retention are hard to test on loaner knives that are used before you get them and unless you get permission from the owner to torture their knives is hard to justify beating up someone elses knife, knife steel is a talking point for those who are enthusiasts and I definitely am so maybe I just fell into that topic because it's something that I care abour(not everyone does), other things that people might care about are things like ergos, deployment and lockup(especially on a knife) my main issue with this shootout was the blade play, I know 99% of otfs have play but this one was the worst I'd felt to date (reviewing knives has given me that context so I feel like I can speak on it) that said what's most important is that you like your knife and if that's the case then nobody's review saying otherwise matters..I do appreciate the discussion and that you watched my video, cheers and have a great day🍻

OTF knives cost a good bit of money to build - you have to CNC the Aluminum and you then have to hardcoat anodize it - Benchmade takes all of that cost out by using cheap plastic - maximizing their profit - such a terrible company in my opinion. Only Benchmade would take $60 of material and sell it for 2-300.

No, you haven’t been harsh ENOUGH on Benchmade. Newer versions of the Shootout use 💩grivory for the frame scales, and are now ~$350! Meanwhile, Kershaw is rolling out an OTF which is superior to the Shootout in several respects, for ~$230. Benchmade can go eff themselves, so far as I’m concerned.
