My Leaf does fine with aftermarket audio. The DC-DC converter is a seperate module though and it doesn't have all that interconnected bullshit. The stereo is stil just a stereo.

The auto manufactures have been trying to make changing the radio impossible for years. Example. 2006 ram 2500. If you remove the radio the air bag lights come on and other things wont work. The basic looking radio controls more than just music. To install a head unit in a late 3rd gen ram you need what's called a radio delete module and that's used to cost as much as a decent after market radio. Keep in mind this is nearly a 20 year old truck. They have been anti consumer at least thus long.

There is no almost. There's been a lot of legislation moving forward with making it illegal to do things regarding our computers in the car. If you discuss this on certain forums you can get banned. They are using safety and security as the reason. When you pay is much money as we're paying today for cars you shouldn't have to subscribe for heated seats and cruise control. And that's really what this is all about.
