"What would you know of struggle, Perfect Son? When have you fought against the mutilation of your mind? When have you had to do anything more than tally compliances and polish your armour?" [...] "The people of your world named you Great One. The people of mine called me Slave. Which one of us landed on a paradise of civilization to be raised by a foster father, Roboute? Which one of us was given armies to lead after training in the halls of the Macraggian high-riders? Which one of us inherited a strong, cultured kingdom? And which one of us had to rise up against a kingdom with nothing but a horde of starving slaves? Which one of us was a child enslaved on a world of monsters, with his brain cut up by carving knives? Listen to your blue-clad wretches yelling of courage and honour, courage and honour, courage and honour. Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom which enslaves you, no matter that their armies outnumber yours by ten-thousand to one. You know nothing of courage. Honour is resisting a tyrant when all others suckle and grow fat on the hypocrisy he feeds them. You know nothing of honour." Angron addressing Roboute Guilliman during the Shadow Crusade.

I don't get angron's point. Robute did fight tyrants and against hypocrites, so why is he screaming that robute does not know courage and honor? In my perspective angron is both jealous and frustrated.

@@worldman3218 ofc he is. Papasmurf got everything to begin with. While angron had to lead a revolt of gladiators and slaves. He is kinda like Spartacus. He wanted to die on nuceria but the Emperor denied his wish. So he hated all of the imperium from the begining and guiliman is the posterboy of the imperium.

Not the best tactician nor the greatest warrior, but one thing sets him apart from all his brothers, he's the best diplomat and empire builder second only to the emperor. If rebuilding the imperium is your goal, then he is your best bet, because he can easily weave through the many redundant and inefficient beauracracy of the imperium.

Roboute Guilliman, more than anyone else in the Imperium, understands that the best way to win against all odds is to shift the odds themselves. Heroism is a band-aid. Organisation and logistics are proper surgery.

space marines were ultimately expendable and suitable only for specific needs in the emperor's eyes, as had been the thunder warriors. there could very well have been no place for them in his final vision of the galaxy. The fact that Guilliman deduced this, and made every effort in shaping his legion so that outcome would not come to pass just shows how ahead of the curve he really is. Its the most profound effort that any of the primarchs ever made. I dont understand why he is so hated.

I think its by people who just pick something to hate and just stick with it. I also know the "older" Ultramarines canon (prior to the HH novels that focused on Guilliman) made them out to be the best and brightest space marines, with no flaws and who were better than all the other legions. Many never got past that original hate and, I believe, nowdays a lot of people just hate on them jokingly because they got somewhat retconned by the more modern novels.

@@GrimDarkNarrator it's a shame really that the ultra marines get a lot of hate but at the same time it's understandable as in the early day's they got all the love were the rest got very little. Me I just like the fact that it was the ultra marines who held the emperor relam together after the civil War and not only that I also like the way they take planet's because they don't just leave it once their done they make sure the planet can look support itself before they move on.
